The EU’s €5.8BN Railway to Secure Europe

Ойын-сауық

The EU is building a 5.8 billion euro railway that will help secure the Baltic States. Called Rail Baltica, the project will stretch 870 kilometers from Warsaw, Poland to Tallinn, Estonia. It will be the region’s first standard gauge railway, slashing commute times and uniting the Baltic states with the rest of the EU, boosting economic activity and increasing national security.

@@ColdmanOrleans That's a separate project linking both Estonia's and Finland's capitals together. The 5.8BN railway is to connect the Baltic states via Poland and it finally ends at Tallin Estonia, But the tunnel that connects Estonia and Finland is a whole different project. And to add on that, the project is gonna cost around 9 to 13BN (far more than the 5.8BN railway project) and it may open in the 2030s.

Not directly to Helinki main port, but close enough. will make the underwater route ~30km shorter. BEcause all of the pandemic, ukraine war etc... crisises etc... the project will be prolonged more into the future, need to make RB first, otherwise that project would be meaningless moneypit in some sense... because we have higher priorities atm.. like building the first Nuclear power plant by 2035, wich Fujitsu won the contest for it, they will help us build one (but they have to build a functiojning one first in their own country, to show that its safe... ) That nuclear plant will power all three baltic states. Finland is also building their 4th nuclear plant i think or already built in 2021... cant exactly remember...

The US has been a per capita wealthier state than Western Europe since the early 1800's, perhaps due to their limitless land, resources, lack of conflict and plagues, and of course the stability and wealth generation that comes with democratic capitalism.

Anyone but Brussels would understand it would never make any economical sense. I'm certain the new route presented in this video is going to use the narrower gauge, so it would be incompatible with the rest of the Baltic railways and locomotives/railcars, but that doesn't matter to the Baltic countries if the EU is paying for it, I suppose.

It will also make travelling to cities such as Pärnu loads quicker, and possibly liven its economy. Tallinn will also get a few upgrades when they finally get to building the station for it. Being able to take train to all of the Baltics capitals is also very nice as someone who like to travel, not to mention finally being able to take a train to Warsaw from which you can take a train to nearly everywhere else in Europe. And the military aspect is also nice, eing able to bring in supplies without having to switch carriges due a difference in rail guages. If only they would've completed it in time, but the extra money being spent on delays is making the project seem worse as time goes on.

@@Glatidoz Estland's largest trading partners are Finland, Sweden and Norway (due to higher salaries over there), comprising over 29% of exports. Upgrading domestic rail connections to Northern European cities like Helsinki and Stockholm over long-distance connections elsewhere would better serve Estonian economic interests. Producing some military supplies domestically creates local jobs, economic activity and independence rather than relying solely on imports which carry supply risks. Prior railway connections between Tallinn and Pärnu were abandoned, so new lines need convincing cost-benefit analyses to succeed where others failed commercially. The project delays and cost overruns erode public support over time by wasting taxpayer funds that could develop more strategically important connections. Estonians travel more for work/leisure to Northern neighbors rather than Poland/Latvia/Lithuania due to economic incentives, so ridership projections may be optimistic. Standardizing to a single gauge (there is 1067mm and 1520mm gauges in Estland) for efficiency rather than introducing new incompatibilities would be preferable to integrate different railway and tramway networks. Estonian government must consider real implications of further emigration pull on core industries and security of neighboring states from ambitious projects. Long-term commercial viability without operating subsidies is uncertain given scales involved and alternatives like modernizing existing routes. Prioritizing Nordic cooperation alignment with Estonian and neighboring national economic interests seems most prudent approach

EU rail networks use NATO standard rails. Baltic States are literally isolated from EU with RUssian-style gauge I think Russia made moves like this, because if war escalates, there's no use of NATO ,.because they cant even get tanks or gear to us.. since there's no rail basicly have to Re-load in Poland everything, or drive thru many countries on civilian roads with tanks rofl... This project is def advertised as "civilian" , but its clearly for military purpose , well it has dual-uses so... Thats why life is hard in baltics, everything is super expensive... logistics is shit, have to pay so much for importing stuff... People dont even know how our goods cost more than some european countries, wich have 2-4x higher average salaries... Im always amused how americans claim this country is "cheap" , like wtf. gas in am,erica 0,70cents/L Estonia its almost 2€ liter yeah , really cheap to live here rofl....

Here in Europe, we actually build the infrastructure we promise. It’s just rail, not even the most advanced on the continent by a long shot. We don’t let con artist like Elon Musk to propose unbuildable bullshit projects like hyperloop.

The construction has been happening for years now.... The progress is different in each country along the track, there is also a plan to build a tunnel to Helsinki, Finland.... Rail Baltica has a website.
