The Era of Genetically Modified Superhumans

Ғылым және технология

The late 21st century belongs to Superhumans. Technological progress in the field of medicine through gene editing tools like CRISPR is going to revolutionize what it means to be human. The age of Superhumans is portrayed in many science fiction movies, but for the first time in our species history, radically altering our genome is going to be possible through the methods and tools of science.
The gene-editing tool CRISPR, short for clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, could help us to reprogram life. It gives scientists more power and precision than they have ever had to alter human DNA.
Genetic engineering holds great promise for the future of humanity. A growing number of scientists including David Sinclair believe that we will soon be able to engineer and change our genes in a way that will help us live longer and healthier lives.
But how much should we really tinker with our own nature? What is the moral responsibility of scientists and humans towards future generations?
With technological advances in molecular biology like CRISPR that allow for specific gene editing approaches, many scientists argue that there are strong potential benefits as well as risks to human genetic engineering.
David Sinclair is a geneticist at Harvard Medical School. He believes it’s possible to unlock the fountain of youth.
The potential uses of such gene editing techniques could range from the treatment of disease to the enhancement of beauty and intelligence
New discoveries in gene editing technologies are popping up everywhere in the world and experts predict that we will see many more in coming years. Many scientists believe that genetic engineering is the future of our evolution. It provides us with a chance to give ourselves any traits we want, such as muscle mass or eye color. Basically, anything is possible.

    Sarif was right about one thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable. In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people along the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be. We might as well get good at it. - Deus Ex Human Revolution

    Well said. It is inevitable. We will or someone, sometime will. Think about how many times in human history we discovered how to do something and than just stopped using that discoveries advances. We could all agree to not engage in an avenue of discovery for whatever reason and just like the laws we all agree on, someone will break em. This science will be discovered eventually by someone. We don't have to decide we aren't capable of making complex decisions about things we barley understand. We are intelligent enough to decide and try in ernest to discover everything we are capable as soon as we are capable(until full mastery) then decide how we want said discovery to effect and benefit or not. Why leave these decisions to the most unscrupulous of us or kick the can to another generation? We need a sea change moment for our civilization. Advancement should never be stifled. Discovery is never bad. It can only be bad if the way we choose to use it is bad.

    It does not matter if the rich get there first. That is only a problem if there is scarcity of resources. If we're modifying our brains and bodies to be super human that almost definitely will increase our ability to gather more resources. Your thinking in a very capitalistic modern way, whereas I see it as an inevitability that capitalism will slowly dwindle out over the coming decades. Capitalism only exists because of scarcity. We have an entire solar system to mine for resources and a giant nuclear reactor in the center of it to provide all the energy we need for billions of years.

    I was excited by this scenario that could eliminate many causes of human sufference (gentic diseases, low IQ, ugliness, etc.), but, even if I am really ignorant, I think that the possibilities to apply genetic engineering to complex traits like height, IQ, and many polygenic diseases is strongly overrated for many reasons: to create a strong effect you should modify too many genes which is impossible with our knowledge, often GWAS doesn't indicate the casual variant of a trait, but only a variant close to that, etc. I have read that the best possibility is represented by embryo selection, but for biological reasons the number of female gametes limits a lot the utility of such a selection.

  • @hihello8771

    @hihello8771

    Yes, i was telling a friend about this the other day. There are genes that are linked with *BOTH* autism and intelligence, say if we decided to remove the gene for autism; now we might have lost a chunk of the gene pool that would have been geniuses! It might even be dysgenic long term overall because we dont know how thisll affect other genes and traits as well as the random mutation. Let's not forget that were always under selective pressures, evolution is ongoing. Classic eugenics will still be the most feasible means of improving genetics for a society. This is a tough pill to swallow for many.

  • @nessuno3048

    @nessuno3048

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@hihello8771 Thank you for your answer. The problem that you mention is very important, the so-called trade-off. As an autistic individual, I have to admit that the average IQ of autistic individuals is lower than the average of other people, and I haven't heard of these genes. However, I could imagine the exsistence of genetic variants which increase, for examples, intelligence, and decrease another desiderable trait, like height, even if IQ and height are positive correlated, I cannot deny this possibility. An hypothetical eugenics programme through embryo selection should consider the statistics benefits of each genetic variant, and take a decision taking in account all the traits/disease predisposition. In every human activity we do it, we consider different alternatives and mention advantages and disadvantages of every choice. Maybe you are right when you say that associative matings are more feasible than embryo selection and other emerging biotechnologies, but the effect of traditional eugenics are slow, they don't exclude the emergence of also very "sick" individuals. It could be combined with higly technological eugenics, but how can we perform it without being authoritarian. As an incel, I think tha women have many more possibilities to decide the sexual partner than males, so we should suggest the women not to have children with low-IQ, or genetically unfit men (even when they are attractive)? Should we say to sexually attractive men who have genetic disadvantages not to breed? It doesn't work. Personally, I am not against wealfare and the only thing that I would do is to use social benefits to avoid poor people to be rewarded if they have children, and consider that low IQ and poverty are only correlated. I am not a geneticist, but the problem represented by the loss of genetic diversity seems to be absurd, because we use the case of breeded dogs which are selected among a small number of individuala across generations, which cause some genetic problems. If any form of genetic selection would be dangerous, we should blame also natural selection, which happens in some cases very rapidly. I have no dogmas fidei, so I think that we should examine the matter with mathematical models.

    Fact 1: all humans on earth can be fit standing shoulder to shoulder into the city limits of Los Angeles. Fact 2: we can transform the deserts and other barren lands on Earth for more human utilization. We also have a pretty clear understanding of how to terraform Mars through analyzing Earth. Fact 3: biotechnology can transform agriculture efficiency by increasing crop yield per area of land. There’s also vertical farming in development. Fact 4: eating less meat is good for the climate and frees up crop lands used for growing feedstocks. There’s also lab-grown meats in development. Fact 5: with family planning and access to social support, we can easily stabilize population growth to or just above replacement levels if we want, but we shouldn’t need to be too strict due to the aforementioned solutions. As to humans living ever longer and therefore causing endless population growth, well, the only solution there is obviously we will eventually need to become an interplanetary species. We could also make humane euthanasia a right for those who don’t wish to live any longer for various reasons. The bottom line: we need more R&D and more energy generation to fuel economic productivity and the developmental acceleration of new technologies. We also need better education and understanding of citizens to advance the social policies and the technological progress. Lastly, humans have a long history of breaking codes: encrypted transmission codes, the atomic code, and now the genetic code. We live in an exciting time of scientific progress. Biotechnology is going to bring unprecedented peace to planet earth. Knowledge is power.

    After the GMO corn harvest, I tried to plant back the selected harvest of corn and it was a disaster. It failed to continue its natural germination and produce. More than half did not germinate and those germinated did not grow properly and even those made some blades, blades were so small and uneven of grains. Because of its genetic modification, it loses its genetic continuation. For example, the normal breading of horse and donkey = results is Mule, but mule can not bread or produce any baby anymore. Why? See Video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHyax86oj9Snp5M.html Thus, GMOs end genetical continuetion. therefore, how much more when humans are genetically modified our natural fertility will be affected seriously. Because Zins carry our blueprint and if that is taken out and put something that does not belong to it then we have no zins to carry the copy of ourselves. Then, we cannot reproduce anymore.

    Matthew 24:37-39 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage (marrying fallen angels and giving themselves in marriage to fallen angels/demons),, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God (Fallen angels/demons) saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” The Nephilim (Giants/genetically modified humans) were on the earth in those days-and also afterward-when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created-and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground-for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless (pure - indicating pure gene) among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. Genesis 6:1‭-9

    perfection is like a dog chasing its tail, just when you think you have got it, it gets away from you again. Everything we think is imperfect, is perfectly made and in line with the design of the universe.

    Just realize and understand you will not be the one to benefit from it the benefits of genetic engineering are only for the powerful immortality for the rich and politicians serfdom for everybody else and if you step out of line I have a problem with it then you could talk to the genetically engineered army of cloned Superman that will execute you the minute you step out of line the only reason they allow videos like this is because it's easier to get people excited for their slavery by spinning it as opportunity for all they have already done this with the internet remember it was supposed to be free access for everybody limitless knowledge a world connected and United but what did we actually get higher rates of depression in suicide because of social media than ever before you're every thought being monitored and sent to be collected for Big Data they told you that you would use the internet instead they created the internet to use you genetic engineering will be the same
