“I can save him!” “Harper his intestines just fell out.”
I remember someone else was saying it wasn't Cthulhu and was a relative of his eho had sympathy for humanity. The vision was basically just the entity trying to warn them of the old old ones. This makes the episode way darker as humanity gets doomed due to a what boils down to a misunderstanding.

I love the theory that the spider creatures were there to keep people away from the Elder God. It would explain how Harper escaped (assuming she wasn’t being controlled by the Elder god) as the creatures aren’t there to stop you from leaving. Makes sense in my opinion because if the Elder god needs help to be freed it would add up that the creatures are trying to stop you reaching the Elder god.

But dead men tell no tales. The best way to keep the prison a secret is to not let anyone who knows of its location from escaping.
I think the story fits Lovecrafts Canon quite well - further stories (e.g. At the Mountains of Madness) indicate, that Cthulhu themself might be the largest, most powerful and thus the leader of the Xothians (or "starspawn" as they're named by Lovecraft), but by far not the only one imprisoned on earth. After several wars with different alien races and god-like entities, more of Cthulhus kin were entombed/imprisoned deep within the earth, under the sea, or in the remote deserts and mountains to contain them and prevent them from returning to power - so the alien in "Vaulted Halls" might not be Cthulhu himself, but another powerful Starspawn which could wreak similar havok on the world, if set free.

Cthulhu is the weakest of the Great Old One, he is more the high priest for the others. Cthulhu is the one who, once awakened, will call on his brothers to wake up too and take back what was theirs "the earth"

more than i love watching somebody's dive into media and showing me things i wouldve never known otherwise and helping me understand the entire plot (ie, your Very Pulse of the Machine vid), i LOVE when someone does a dive like this and confirms that i wasn't missing anything. sometimes i'll watch something and just sit there wondering what other people are gathering from this and if i'm supposed to be getting more from it. and usually the answer is yes. case in point: that FUCKING poem about eating plums for breakfast and it being a metaphor for sleeping with somebodys sister??? fuck you. but then!!! a piece of media comes out! and its all there! no i didnt know the names of people and no i dont remember most of the dialogue. but what i DO know is i wasn't left with ultimately some further question, mission, or moral to ponder. the LDaR episode about the two people killing each other over and over while also being sexually involved was supposed to be reminiscent of toxic relationships. the very pulse of the machine was about... something involving immortality beyond the physical body. but this. this was it. people encounter big monster. big monster make people go crazy. end credits. nothing further. and i just love that

i assumed at the end she was saying its name. if it was Cthulhu, the name is not supposed to be pronounceable so it made sense to me that it might be the creators take on the actual pronunciation
The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula Guin and The Last Question by Isaac Asimov would be OH MY GOSH perfect for Love Death And Robots shorts
Great video but most nods use an IR blaster so you don't need ambient light coming in. So their nods would have worked regardless
Definitely my favorite episode of the series along with Sonies Edge
Okay, but riddle me this season 2 and 3 are in original order. Why'd they flip season 1 though, I could have sworn it was Sonnie's edge and 3 robots first
3:23 I wonder if that's where the blob monsters from Ocarina of time came from.

She definitely is saying never let it out at the end of you listen carefully
my sister had a theory that this wasn't actually cthulhu since he's supposedly in the ocean, but is actually one of his "siblings" and the vision it showed Harper was a warning that cthulhu would release the other monstrous beings that would destroy the world, I always thought that was a cool idea.
Her last words are the first words spoken by the monster before he began to speak English. Humans are nothing compared to the Ancient Ones, and even if they lost their senses, they would be unable to resist the monster's control. So I think the Ancient One had her eyes and ears cut out and released her for others to find. The rest would wonder what happened and follow her lead. This way there is a greater chance that someone else will find the Ancient One's prison.

I think the Ancient One realized that this little creature wouldn't be able to break his chains. So how do you attract attention and attract others to his prison?
She cut oout her eyes abd she also cut off her ears too so that makes it even stranger how she made it out
Cutting your eyes and your ears against a creature that can control you using his mind is pointless and stupid.

It's the same reason as the eye removal!
The only goofy thing about this episode, story, to me was the advance alien race that created this prison for a literal god were defeated by a few marines, and afganies, that blow metal out of tubes. (guns). Not to mention why they tossed the prison on a world with some type of creature (bacteria, shoot even the potential possibility of having creatures, they did capture a god so I'd imagine they probably knew the recipe for life and it's required conditions) that could evolve to mess with it. But that's what stories are for :)
aint that kthanid the brother of cthulhu cus he looks like him, and the visions he showed harper is more like what happens when chtulhu escapes. so basiclly kthanid tries to warn them about the hell that is coming wen chtulhu escapes. so khtanid needs to be freed so he can stop its brother chtulhu
Bruh..the Cthulhu thing was more of hyperbole ..just ran with it though I guess
i thoght it was Kthanid, the brother of Cthulhu

The creators claimed the design of the creature was quote on quote "Cthulhu", but the monster in the book was never described as that monster

😂 The true inspiration for this comes from the Enochian scriptures, The Book of Jude and Revelation. The creature is Abaddon in Hebrew, Apollyon in the Greek. He is also the King of the locust creatures: 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. This being and the locust army is released in the end times. The Book of Jude describes these fallen entities/angels bound in everlasting chains until the day of judgement, otherwise known as the end: Jude 6 King James Version 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
