With the help of the History Men and Women, we explore the world of George Miller’s Mad Max; from Aunty Entity's Bartertown to Pappagallo’s Compound to Immortan Joe's empire in the Citadel. Along the way, I explain who in the desert is The Coma-Doof Warrior, the Crow Fishers, War Boys, Imperators, etc. This exploration goes over the budget of the first Mad Max (1979) in comparison to its predecessors. Explaining why Mad Max shifted to a post-apocalyptic setting. Answering the question, why did Max Rockatansky’s world end? What exactly led to The Fall? As well as using interviews to give us a the most accurate timeline of all of the events we've seen so far.
I use text from The Art of Mad Max: Fury Road by Abbie Bernstein and Mad Max: Fury Road: The Prelude to the Blockbuster Film! (2015) by George Miller to explain the events between Thunderdome and Fury Road. Like the Max competing in The People Eater’s Gas Town’s Thunderdome 2.0 or Colonel Joe Moore’s Siege of the Citadel. This information also helps us go more in-depth when it comes to the design of the cars (like the Gigahorse, The War Rig, The Buzzard Excavator, The Lone Wolf), the settlements, inhabitants, and creatures; and how they went on to become the inspiration for Bethesda’s Fallout Video Game Series.

I saw some video where they discussed the identity of MAX in fury road. He isn't the same Max according to that theory. Max in fury road is the grown feral child from Mad Max 2. 29:10 Great video BTW.
For what it's worth, neither Mad Max nor Mad Max 2 are actually "post-apocalypse" movies. George Miller made it clear that the first two films take place during the collapse of civilization and Australian society specifically, but prior to a nuclear war occurring. Miller and his screenwriting partner Terry Hayes thoroughly mapped out the timeline for these films and how events occurred in this world in a very specific way. The first two films only demonstrate the breakdown of society due to the conventional war between Saudi Arabia and Iran as a result of the oil crisis in the seventies. In this timeline, nuclear exchange didn't occur and didn't touch Australia until after the events of Mad Max 2. You'll notice that Mad Max and Mad Max 2 feature vehicles that run on gasoline, whereas Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, which takes place fifteen years later, features vehicles running on a fuel engineered from pig feces. Thunderdome also features a scene early on where Max uses a Geiger-counter to determine the amount of nuclear fallout contaminating some water, and that closing scene of the not-Gyro Captain flying everyone over the nuclear blasted remnants of Sydney.

The time line is weird AF. Before Mad Max became Mad Max he was a cop in a regular world full of bads. If furiosa is about Max's age, then how da F, is she in a waste land world when she was little ?

@@jot8000 - The original story for Fury Road as written by George Miller was virtually identical to what you saw on screen, except Miller intended Mel Gibson to reprise his role as Max. Max therefore was intended to be the same age as the Vulvalini( the old women in the desert ). For all the reasons we can't get into, obviously Tom Hardy was cast as Max instead, yet Miller didn't change anything about the story to accommodate him.

I think that the only thing that actually happened is Max losing his family to Toecutter. They cripple max when he comes back for vengeance. They drive him Mad. That would explain the timeline, it would explain why the same actors come back as different people. The world didn’t end. Max is in a hospital pumped full of Thorazine. It’s all in his head

Also a theory that Max in Fury road is not Max at all but someone who took over the role. I always thought it was going to bevthe fairel kid. But probably not.

It goes from reality to legend or myth.
Mad Max doesn't take place in 1982. Mad Max takes place either in 1985 or, at most, 1987. The placard on the front gate of the Halls of Justice reads "Established 1983." Additionally, the sign that reads "High Fatality Road" in the scene introducing us to Max Rockatansky has graffiti on it that says, "... was here December 1984." These are very subtle but distinct bits of information for the audience deliberately inserted by Miller in his great way of not forcing exposition on the audience that they don't necessarily need to know.
Bryce making a forty five minute video dedicated to Mad Max?? SIGN ME *THE FUCK* UP!
It's kinda funny to me just how random Bryce picks his topics to go over.
Can’t thank you enough for this long in depth video on the wasteland of Mad Max.
Nice to hear some insight into World of Mad Max
The first Mad Max I saw was Thunderdome (also how I learned who Tina Turner was 😂) nice to hear about it again. "2 men enter, 1 man leaves!"
My dad watched these movies as a kid. I will always remember when we found the disc set that had road warrior and thunder dome. We watched RW and I loved it so much. I already had experience with Mad Max because I played the 2015 video game but that was my first time watching any of the movies. That’s one of my favorite memories of my dad
I DONT KNOW WHO IS MORE MAD, ME OR THIS WORLD!
" hey fella! Hey fella!.... What a turkey... Hey fella, you're a turkey! You know that?"
Definitely more Mad Max please.
I get to regularly fang my black V8 2 door Australian built ute on the same roads the first movie was filmed on and have parked ute in the same carpark that was used as the set for the scene when Max gets his 2 door XB Falcon.
It makes sense that a nuclear exchange had not taken place in The Road Warrior because the gasoline refinery was still able to generate electricity to run the pumps and power the lights and machinery. If there had been an EMP, nothing that relied on electricity to drive pumping action would be working.
This was really engaging.
I literally just found your videos today and my FAVORITE part is your incoherent rants and side tangents and I feel like you deserve to know that
Please dive deeper into Mad Max in more videos. Thank you.
Damn now I'm hella interested in this whole world of Mad Max! I love these explanation vids, easy to understand while also being super in detail of the world and it's inhabitants. I 💚 it!!
As a long time fan of the MM franchise, this was awesome!! Nice work
Very will done. More please!!
the buzzards vehicles always remind me of one of the cars from the Australian movie The Cars that Ate Paris (1974)
I love that they're called the Boobalini. Totally love it.
Good stuff!
Incredible work, Bryce! I have only seen Fury Road, but the franchise stuck with me. I learned so much from this video! Excited to see the new Furiosa. Thanks!
That was awesome. The one detail that bugs me, is that by Fury Road most steering wheels are "RHT" set up, even though the entire story should take place in a world where "LHT" was predominant, and all salvaged vehicles should reflect that with the steering on the right side of the vehicle.
Since I was a kid I've always loved the mad Max movies. Something in them just spoke to me that this was going to be the future. Horrible people fighting for what's left of resources. But the way they use Joe in the fury road movie. in the way he uses the ideal of The Valkyrie snatching you from the battlefield to bring you Valhalla.that was just chef's kiss on that world.from the moment the first war boy yelled witnessed me as he falls out the citadel trying to get max back in. I know this movie was going to blow my mind. I can't even imagine if they actually gave Miller the money and kept on the series back in the day with Mel Gibson. How many delightful wonderful tasty treats we would have I don't know but it sounds good
In this universe Gas really cost an Arm and Two Legs😢😊
Thx now i understand the movie Hop and Glory much better!
a "get out of jail free card" is a reference to the board game monopoly its one of the "chance" cards people can pick up in the game . it was a very popular game at the time . I totally got it , but I'm an old fart .
Ah, the way I'll rewatch this series as I've rewatched the Hunger Games' videos 😌
George Miller has said that the events of Fury Road happen between Mad Max 2 and Beyond Thunderdome. Great video though!
How do you explain Jedidiah’s apparent recognition of Max when Max went to barter town
With the gyro captain being to different guys you have to remember that the story is a legend...it doesn't matter who actually plays the character...it's almost like a play in a Roman forum..or at least that's how I saw it🤷♂️
Mad Max isn't Post Apocalyptic. It's what happens when regular Australians take a wrong turn and get lost in the Outback for a few hours.
I know your Hunger Games videos didn’t get the most views, but I really enjoyed all of them
I have always understood a few to have a default of 3 unless specified.
Good video👍🇦🇺 i’m Australian from Victoria
i felt like im watching an interview !!
It would be cool if the book of Eli and mad max was set in the same universe
As a fellow ADHD-er, I love your tangents 😂 1000/10 excellent content
You should totally check out Wasteland Weekend
NEW VIDEO
In the third part of Mad Max, when he meets Captain Giro, he says "I know you, you have a plane" Something like that. I'd say you missed it.
Also lead additives in fuel weren't officially banned until 1991 so it's possible that excessive use of lead additives in gasoline could also significantly contribute to the fall of society.
Why is there a hummer jeep in one of your shown comics at 09:56? You said before madmax cars are all pre 80ies 😅
The original actor for the gyro captain backed out at the last minute, and the actor from the last movie was the only one available on short notice.
What a day what a lovely day!!!!
Furious is the Wasteland Jesus. She is 33 in Fury Road. She dies at the end and raised from the dead ti become the new ruler.
Wooo! Mad max rocks
BEAAARRRRD????!!!
More mad Max

MadMax took place around 1984
i love this and i love your videos/commentary but the ai art really kills me
A couple is 2, a few is 3, several are 4, many are 5, half a dozen are 6, etc
Kinda sucks that Goose was not Hummungus.
aquifer = AHK-wuh-FUR not "fire"
Hold on I 🤔 the gyro captain was the same guy and his son was a result from that woman he was with in the 2nd film
I hope I'm giving you lots of watchtime because I've clicked on this video about 6 times and keep falling asleep and having to rewatch it.
Seems the captain already had a girlfriend, 16:09.
It's a monopoly card, and that has an get out of jail free card
I'm surprised you didn't play the video game.
I disagree with your findings re: "several". I would say it connotes at least 4 to 7 or even 8 years - and then you go to "nearly a decade" for 8 and 9 years. "Several" is, in my education and comprehension definitely more than 3.

Come on. If anyone deserves a comic or series based on them, it's Lord Humungus. He's the most woke and well spoken character in the entire series. So picture this. We start with Hugo, or Humungus, and his life partner Geoffrey raising their two adopted children in the last years humanity. He works as a liberal arts professor with a major in English literature. Geoffrey is a child psychologist and a prominent author of parenting books. During season/part 1 they watch as the world goes crazy around them. Resources are dwindling and armed militia start fighting off gangs of highway men. Paranoia and polarization of groups drives deeper wedges into society. Anyone different is dangerous. Then famen leads to plague as the dead start piling. Geoffrey and Hugo gather their family and gather their family and head out into the wild as lynch mobs of the bigots and ignorant gather groups of minorities and fringe groups for execution. They join the first wave of road people. Others who have fled the chaos spreading.Traveling from safe place to safe place. Geoffrey helps with medical and psychiatric trauma, Hugo becomes the defacto teacher for the caravan. They find peace. Meanwhile the cities are falling apart. The militias have devolved into raiders. Starvation and cannibalism are a daily fact. The world governments are at each other's throats. Border wars are springing up everywhere. People join the military in droves just to eat. Then the bombs drop. Driven out of the cities by the fallout, the raiders begin attacking farming communities, small towns and caravan groups. Among them is Hugo and Geoffrey's caravan while crossing the irradiated Australian Outback. The raiders leave the group of adults and children to die in the harsh wasteland. We follow their journey and hardship as they must fight for their very survival. Hugo has to watch as Geoffrey slowly dies, waisting away as they both refuse to partake in any cannibalism or ill gained food and water. He watches as one by one the people he loves most die in front of him. The last of the caravan people think they have found salvation as cars approach but find themselves forced into cruel slavery. Hugo is forced to fight other slaves for food for him and his only surviving son. His size earns him a new name, Humungus. Geoffrey organizes a rebellion among the slaves. During the battle the slaves are cut down in waves. Geoffrey among them. Humungus' face is burned off by a flamethrower. In the end the last 5 surviving slaves band together as a new raider group and decide to raise the children strong. To take whatever they need. To never be weak again. And leading them? The Atolla of RocknRolla. The Warrior of the Wasteland. The God among us. Lord Humungus!

I am the Doof Warrior
Oh no, not better help.
The comics were a mistake. They probably shouldn’t be considered canon.
Ayatollah = EYE-uh-TOE-luh _not_ "A uh-toe-luh"
you are all wrong and really need to watch the movies again. Mad Max 1 is set just as the fabric of society is collapsing, Mad Max 2 is set after the apocalypse, Beyond thunderdome makes it clear a nuclear event happened, Fury road has war boys with cancer from the radiation.
Yeah, not into this. That ad is cringe
Why don't you explain the wasteland that is my dating life

I figure the real Mad Max wasteland starts with this new spin-off with it's "strong female lead". Not much hope. The woke seem dead set on destroying all beloved movie franchises. I hope I'm wrong, but evidence shows that this will be the most likely outcome
