The End of Oregairu.

Ойын-сауық

Now that Oregairu has ended, I'm looking as Hikigaya Hachiman one last time. Trying to analyze him, yukino yukinoshita, and yui yuigahama and the lessons they present with the theme of codependency and finally finding the genuine thing. Making his decision between Yui and Yukino.

We all have wish to not put "end" and "oregairu" at the same sentence. But few weeks ago it finally happened. Some people waited for a year or two for season 3 but many waited for 5 to 7 years just to see this ending. It was a rollercoaster ride. The last Hachiman and Yukino argument had ended, the last Yahallo have been spoken. For the anime that influence me more than any anime. Just like what Hiratsuka said "Don't summarize what you have in a simple word like "codependence". Can you honestly pack all your feelings into just a single word." Saying thank you or being glad in watching this anime is an understatement. Nevertheless Thank you for the memories Hachiman, Yukino and Yui. You guys will always have a place in my heart. I was still in high school when I saw the first season and remember how much I related to hachiman because I was also alone and didn’t have any friends. His views started to resonate with me and I started to adopt those views. When season 2 was announced I was excited to hear more of hachimans twisted view of the world, and not feel as lame as I did for being alone. Although I did get more of those wonderful monologues and view points one thing I noticed is his change. He was still cynical but he seemed off. When the iconic “genuine” scene happened I was shocked and in tears. That whole monologue made me think twice about where I was headed with myself and relationships in general, because like what Hachiman said he doesn’t want to be understood he wants to understand and not understanding scares him. Because of that one scene it made me want to be more out there, more open, and made me want to seek out that genuine thing. I started to make friends and I’m still pretty close to them even after we’ve graduated. I didn’t feel...alone. All because of that scene and it’s impact it left on me I started to go out and open myself up more. When Hachiman at season 3 cringed at his first essay I remember cringing with him cuz yea that was something that I thought was “philosophical” and looking back I realized it was just a dumb phase in my life that I can look back and say “ew”. I really did feel like I grew up with this 2d fictional character. This series impacted my life so much and is PERSONALLY my favorite anime of all time (so much so I started reading the LN) Although I still feel lonely in tough times I will never stop searching for that genuine thing.

"Youth is both a lie and a form of evil. Those that glorify that youth are only fooling themselves and those around them, and believe that their surroundings always affirm their actions. By using the word "youth" they twist and distort common sense and anything logical. For them, lies, secrets, sins, and failures do nothing but add spice to their youth." I think what Hachiman meant by "youth" is just the outlook of peers around him about life. They are so unaware of their own motivations and morality that they don't have a taste for what's logically good or common sense. As long as an affirmation from their peers still exists, they continue to glorify youth and seek new experiences indiscriminately (lies, secrets, sins, and failures). By doing this, they lie to themselves and their peers about their true motivation. As evidence, we see the theme of people putting on facades to maintain the status quo in relationships as a recurring theme in the series. Thus, youth is a lie and a form of evil. In my opinion, this is a great, logical opinion about the actions of those around 8man, but an uninformed one about relationships in particular. When 8man asked for the genuine thing, he believed that their current one was impure because he was aware of his ulterior motives. He thought that relying on others, wanting to understand, wanting to not hurt loved ones was just him being selfish, and that he conformed and lied to himself as well as others to keep the status quo. However, these facts alone certainly don't make a relationship fake. Once 8man reached the end of the series, he realized that perhaps all his classmates were trying to do the same thing as him and that he sounded hypocritical.

It might be said that he always been like this, but if so why he was an outcast in the first place. Nobody would mock and isolate from such a nice guy, even if he is rude from time to time. I also don't really like that all of the decisions came after dialogues with teacher, little sister or Haruno. Like he never decided things by himself, except this twist in the end.

@@FoRVidEGG Ehh, I disagree a bit. I think the case of him becoming a "jesus of Chiba" as you put it is not a question of why he's an outcast, but rather it's about him putting himself in harmful positions BECAUSE he was an outcast. If he was a "normal" person like many of those being part of different cliques, he never would've put himself in such a position. And thus pretty much nothing would've happened.

I'm gonnna write a short paragraph now. : ) Oregairu i first watched when i was in an uphill battle with my school friends and life in general so for the most part i connected with Hachiman's disgusting and severe outlook to the rest of his peers. I shared similar thoughts but still tried to get along with everyone, but in the end i got along with no one. s2 came out and that's precisely when i had just hit the barrier of my first crush. My first love, and all that jazz. s2 connected with me cuz of that reason. I was in pain, but so was everyone else in oregairu's s2 for the most part i felt like. and now at s3....the finale to it all. The end of my school days. I graduated school about a year and a half ago and was anticipating that exactly on april 4th, i would come back from my last final for school and begin the ending of one of the most precious stories in my heart. That didn't happen...but here we are. Few more months later. The end of Oregairu. The end of my school days. And the end of an era for me. Honestly im writing this here just cuz i'd like for you to read this as well ; i used to share a lot of similarities with you Hiding. Now? Im me and you're you. But i hope we both can develop positively in the years to come :) Finally ; uh HOLY FUCK YUI YOU POOR THING 😭

Given that I started watching anime this time last year starting with Demon Slayer, it feels so weird on the amount of animes I've watched. Idk the anime you watched nor the manga you read, however, Kokoro Connect was an alright anime. This is not to say its bad though, I havdn't watched any anime that I've considered is outright bad. This anime makes the viewers, or me at least, asking myself wtf is happening. The dialogue is so implicit, often you don't get it clearly what happened to a person. You have to read between the lines. That's so like real life, where people never really tell others what happened to them.

which is why some people bounce off this hardcore, and I don't blame them. A lot of people don't watch anime to see Real Shit. they want shouty boys making things explode with punches, waifus, moe blobs, etc. and more power to them! Stories that are more emotionally realistic are often infuriating in the way that real life situations you observe as a third party can be infuriating. like you see two people that should just for once be honest with each other and you want to scream, and a lot of the time that's Oregairu.

This anime is such food for thought, discussion and self-reflection because these characters really strike a chord with you. We grew up and found this show, related to our boy and saw ourselves in him, we learned, we suffered and we watched him open up and grow as a person. When Hachiman learns to feel, so do we. When he looks back and cringes at his past mistakes, so do we. When he comes into his own and moves forward, we cheer him on. This is probably my favorite anime because the characters here feel so painfully real, not just on paper, but personally.

This show showed me everything: Tears, Heartbreak,Desire, Realisation, Friendship,Bonds and Relationship. So many feelings cannot be defined in just a single word. Hachiman went from being alone to craving for something genuine and true which I guess many people can understand and desire. Yukino stopped chasing her sister, was able to start justify her worthiness and pride by starting to follow her own path and happy that there are people who can understand her. Yui having genuine care and love for both of them and trying to keep a sinking ship afloat. Both Sensei and Haruno playing an important role in them making those desicions. Sensei with her final lesson and Haruno wanting them to not do the same mistake she did. It was everything what you can see in real life and this is the only anime till date that left a deep and permanent impact on me atleast. It is selfish for me to ask for more of this and "grateful" and "in awe"are small words for such a wonderful work with a synonymous message. I just hope everyone finds their own genuine and feel happy. Thank you SNAFU / OREGAIRU.

As someone who is pretty young and going through his own youth. I completely loved and adored this anime. It's taught me a whole lot and I can only hope I will keep pondering on and finding something that I find is my own genuine thing. And keep enjoying and living my youth until the very end! I don't know where my youth will go and lead to, but I'm hopeful and this anime has only made me want to enjoy it the fullest! I'm glad I could finish this anime and take all the great messages! And thank you Hiding in Public for making such a great video essay and analysis on this! It was great for me to watch and understand a bit more about these characters through you!

After first read of the light novel I felt a big void stuck in my heart. It stayed with me through the whole rewatch of first two seasons and the first watch of the last. I thought about it, because Oregairu means a lot to me, it was the first book I loved after all. And after last season ended I started to realize true meaning of oregairu, my void started to disappear. And then you came with this awesome, honest, and deeply connected review of my favorite book. You honestly helped to end the void conclusively. Thank you.

1:55 That's a REALLY GOOD POINT that almost nobody brought up! The 7 years gap between the first season and the third season of Oregairu, while probably wasn't intended, did make the series even more impactful than it appeared to be! 😎 I remembered myself agreeing with a lot of the viewpoints Hachiman put forth in Season 1 years ago. And eventually just like Hachiman, with widening experiences with different groups of people in different situations, slowly growing out of some of those childish adolescent thoughts 🤣 What a masterpiece!

That's one of the most emotional and close to reality story ever animated... but do we really have an end to this story? The 14rd volume called "Shin"? Subtext, masks, doing everything just to keep status quo vs. pursuit of genuineness, haunting past and present people that blocks you from moving forward, the difficulty of saying what you really want to. It's also interesting how each season's mood fits to their relationship development. - 1st season was made more in a comedy mood to reflect how people usually make relationships, where there are more jokes, fun, just getting to know each other. - 2nd one was more about relationship of the club, beginning of their friendship and people that were around them, so the action slowed down a little, it was more emotional. - In 3rd their finally finally break out of their shells, say what they really feel about each other, the preparations for festival felt to be just deep in the background... and the confession, it was really unexpected.
