People hate Subaru because he’s human. He acts human, he feels pain. He feels sadness, and he can’t just lose a arm and act like it didn’t happen and bandage it with his mouth. I don't even see why the would say that. There is nothing about Subaru that is horrible in my opinion. He is most certainly not amazing nor is he really a great guy in the beginning but nothing about his personality is horrible in my opinion. Being slothful and wanting to give up in a terrifying and painful situation is understandable. Feeling isolated and angry at people around you for not understanding what you are going through doesn't make you a horrible person..Do the people around you deserve it? No, but neither do you. He makes many mistakes and he is an arrogant and even at times annoying character but I don't see how they find him horrible when he is one of the most believeable characters I have seen in a long as time! Maybe that is why so many people hate him...because they see parts of themself in him.

Honestly how the obstacles overcomes is unique, Subaru need to change himself, develops. Satella made Subaru realize how important his life is, and Otto made him realize that he doesn't have to carry every pain and burden by himself. And when he finally relies on his ally, he become powerful. He won against Garfiel, fixing his relationship with Emilia and strengthened her mentally

@@kaizu8326 Thank you! And you're right. All the witches represents the 7 deadly sins which I believe all of us have it innately. And Satella, the witch of envy was just the right character to say it because it is the greatest feeling or sin that Subaru harbors. When he always see's other people having a good life that he is envious of them having a perfect family, partner, job, childhood etc. and when he realized he cant have them, he went down into that rabbit hole. We all have our own responses to those negative emotions or sins. Some of us will take into action into removing or fixing it, others will patch it with something else or sometimes we just give up and we'll let ouselves drown into it. And sometimes we all go the extra mile just to get a solution but what we don't realize and usually hard to see is that each corresponds to a very basic answer right at the very start. A gentle reminder like that of "Envy-I need to love myself coz I have more", or "Prideful-I need to accept others coz I cannot be the only one", "Wrathful-I need to hear myself more and others coz we might be the same" etc.

We also get so much world building, amazing story writing, and music. Tf are you on about dude. I'm so glad to see that people can still change their minds about Re:Zero! Since it's my favorite anime, it always sends a stab of pain through my heart when people fundamentally misunderstand the point of it and write it off as "isekai garbage." Sure, you could say that it "has no stakes" if you look at it through the lens of physical health, because yeah, RbD will ensure everybody's not dead (although Season 2 does pretty much knock that notion off its feet, not only with the whole Rem coma thing but also by highlighting the distinct possibility that maybe the worlds continue after he dies, and maybe the only person he's saving is himself). But the thing about Re:Zero is that it's not just Season 2, with the "Parent and Child" episode and a permanent consequence even RbD couldn't fix, that's about character study, it's that it was ALWAYS about being a character study. All of the suffering Subaru went through wasn't just for the sake of shock factor and suffering, but to be catalysts to push him forward to develop as a person. The suffering wasn't the main point of the series, it was how Subaru overcame that suffering, usually with the help from others. The suffering is there to highlight and give meaning to the hope the series provides, to make it more meaningful and personal and real when it finally looks like it's going to be okay. Emilia's lap pillow, Rem's "From Zero" talk, Otto's encouragement, those were all conversations he had with others in his final loops, conversations that motivated him and let him see the light at the end of the tunnel. The first of them taught him that it was okay to let himself grieve and be sad. The second showed him that he could be a better person, and that it was never too late to change. The final one let him know that he could rely on his friends, because that's what friends are for, and that he didn't have to carry everything alone. The high points of the series were not, in fact, the suffering. If you look at it from the perspective of the simple plot format (rising action --> climax --> falling action --> resolution, repeat), the suffering is actually the rising action, leading to the climax, which are those hopeful, inspiring conversations he has (that, or they're the sweet resolutions that leave us with warm hearts). The confusion and misery of Arc 1 leads to the cheerful and well-earned revelation of Emilia's name. The pain of Arc 2 leads to the bittersweet lap pillow scene. The hopelessness of Arc 3 leads to the hope-filled conversation between Subaru and Rem. The action-packed fight against Betelgeuse leads to the beautiful confession of love from Subaru. The visceral horror of the Great Rabbits leads to the cathartic talk about RbD with Echidna. The distress and terror of the revelation that Subaru might be leaving worlds behind, plus the discovery of Echidna's betrayal leads to the talk with Otto. Sure, the suffering is an important part of Re:Zero, but it's moments like those that are the stars of the show, not the pain or anguish Subaru goes through. It's the reason episode 18 is considered one of the greatest episodes despite it being them just standing and talking the entire time. On a similar train of thought, the "stakes" of RbD aren't supposed to be physical stakes. Of course we know it'll probably turn out at least okay, no matter what (although the IF routes show just how easily Subaru could've fallen off the deep end and totally screwed himself if he'd made the wrong choice, even with Return by Death), but that's not what the purpose of RbD is. In reality, RbD is a genius plot mechanism that Tappei has utilized splendidly in all the right ways. It allows us to see all the different sides of characters that we never would've seen otherwise. If only the canon timeline existed, we'd never have gotten to see how cruel Rem can be when reacting to someone she distrusts versus how tender and protective she is with those she loves. We'd never have gotten to see how Emilia reacts to someone she saved versus how she reacts to someone who saved her. We'd never have seen how Garfiel reacts to a regular person versus how he reacts to someone he deems a threat. RbD provides the IDEAL scenario for character study: seeing different sides of characters without having to have permanent consequences. E.g. without RbD, to see all those sides to Rem, Subaru would've had to piss her off badly and then somehow work his way back up and into her heart from such a grave mistake, which might've taken months or even years (if she hadn't just killed him outright when he pissed her off), but with RbD we got to see such a thing within the course of a couple of episodes. And as for the stakes of RbD, it's not supposed to be about "will they make it out of this situation alive." Because yeah, as long as Subaru doesn't give up, they probably will. The stakes are about its effect on Subaru. I'm not just talking about trauma, but actually the bonds he loses because of RbD. This was a huge focus in Arc 2. All the memories he made with Rem and Ram, all the time he spent with them as they taught him how to read and write and cook, all of their conversations and interactions... all of it, just gone in the blink of an eye thanks to his death. The things he loses aren't physical, but mental. The bonds he cherished so deeply, ripped away from his hands as he is forced to start over with them again and again. the stakes that Re:Zero presents aren't "will they make it out alive?" it's "will he be able to keep this bond?" In Arc 2, he loses so many interactions with Rem and Ram. He loses the precious memories of them teaching him how to do all these things, he loses the talk with Rem about demonic inspiration, he loses the conversation with Ram about the story of the two Ogres. Even if he can recreate these situations later, it will never be the same or as genuine as those first times (just like Subaru's 2nd loop where he retraced his steps wasn't as genuine as his first). It certainly takes a toll on Subaru, like when Emilia forgets him in Arc 1, which comes back to bite him in the ass in Arc 3 where she doesn't understand his love. Rem and Ram forget him in Arc 2. He loses those precious moments with Julius in Arc 3. Every loop in Arc 4 worsens his relationship with Garfiel more and more. Even when it seemed like the series had established a pattern of emotional conversation = canon timeline, Otto comes in and has that whole "you're my friend" talk with Subaru and then goes on to be viciously murdered, and it turns out that it was actually arguably the most horribly brutal loop in Re:Zero history. It's a horribly lonely feeling to be forgotten, and yet that's what happens to Subaru over and over again. Some incredibly meaningful interactions are lost to the power of RbD, interactions such as his very first loop in the capitol of Lugunica, the very thing that drives not only many of his actions but also his love for Emilia, yet she has no recollection of it, which leads to a lot of trouble and confusion. So, there you have it. The stakes of Re:Zero are the bonds he's formed through each loop. I could name more examples, but that would be delving into spoiler territory lol. also, the entirety of Season 1 was essentially a prologue to set Subaru's character development up, and BOY, did it do its job. His character development is TOP-TIER, and I think episode 18 (plus S2 ep. 4), as well as Subaru's character in general, provide some of the greatest representations of the "otaku" mindset that I have ever seen. Not to mention the fact that they didn't just present Subaru to us like "hey, look at this dude, he's kind of a scumbag and you hate him right now, right? well guess what! he's you!", but they also took the time to give us hope that we could still change, that it's never too late to be better. And if that's not an amazing character study and self-reflection right there, I don't know what is. That's also kind of why I'm so confused as to how so many people seem to miss the point that Re:Zero is more than just suffering when the amazing character study is RIGHT THERE, staring them in their faces. but anyway, all in all, Re:Zero has always been a character study, and that's what makes it so beautiful. I hope more people can look at it through that lens and grow to appreciate this aspect of Re:Zero. p.s. the combination of this video's message and the music in the background had me legit in tears, "Stay Alive" never fails to make me tear up.

I think what the author wanted, specially with the novel, was to show that Subaru's most desire was to make everything like the first time, that's why people don't get why he likes Emilia, she is the one who liked him first, for what he was and not for the badass who see everything coming and manages to tackle everything sucesfully that he is becoming (RbD makes he seeamsly solve everything at first try, to other people eyes). At the first chapters he used to try n make the same actions to repeat the exactly relationships he had with people but now the author looks like he forgot or moved on from this theme idk

I was waiting to see more sides to her that had been teased but she never really got much focus - which is fine, I was willing to wait, but with Emilia not being super fleshed out yet and with Subaru acting really creepy and obsessive it made anything involving Emilia hard to watch early on. But Subaru started acting more natural with her and that made it a lot easier to watch and a lot easier to like Emilia's part in the story.

What's even more funny is that the LN flat out stated that Subaru was acting overprotective of Emilia from the beginning of the story and he doesn't want Emilia to do anything until she herself changed his mind at the end if season 2 part 1 in a scene similar to the lap pillow in season 1 but wasn't shown in the anime, it's better when you don't talk about things you don't know anything about.

Thank you. I'm always so disappointed when people fail to see what Re:Zero really is about; it's not about the action, it's not about the plot (even though I really appreciate both elements in Re:Zero), it's about the characters and their internal conflicts. The real enemies are not Elsa or the rabbits, but the ideologies of people like Roswaal (who states that people can't change and will always be weak) and Echidna (who states that in order to achieve your goal you need to be willing to do sacrifices and burden everything on your own). People can change and learn to love themselves with the help of other people.

They think they can do better in Subaru's place, ironically just showing us the kinda "main-character self-insert" mindset the anime community has. Subaru thinks like this too at the beginning, expecting to get amazing powers. All he got was suffering instead. They hate what they saw because of projection, and because egotistical ignorance. When people say Subaru is annoying and a crybaby, I really wish to see them try in Subaru's shoes and see how they fare.

But watching Re:Zero, I found myself to relate to Subaru in just about every way possible. I understood his mentality and his reactions, because I would most likely act eerily similar. Well, there was a 4 year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, so I'm doing my best not to panic about the possibility of no Season 3 unless we still haven't heard anything by 2024. It's also likely that they're just waiting for more space between where the anime ended and the LN is currently at before continuing. When Season 2 ended with the conclusion of Arc 4, the LN still had one more book before it would wrap up Arc 6 in Japan. Season 2 was entirely dedicated to Arc 4, and every Arc since then has been roughly the same number of web chapters/LNs, so it's not implausible for every following season to be dedicated to a single Arc. *HOWEVER,* Arc 5 leads directly into Arc 6 and Arc 6 has **spoilers** which is what every **spoilers** has been **spoilers** since **spoilers** and in Arc 7 (which is close to, but not entirely finished yet), **spoilers** , so there may be a small incentive for the creators to try and combine all three arcs, or at least Arcs 5 and 6, into a single season to bring us **spoilers** sooner.

As someone with major depression and self loathing issues, Re:Zero feels like the most important piece of media in the world for people like me. I have never seen a show handle this topic better, at least, not in a way that was so insanely personally resonant with me. Never in my life did I think when first starting the show that it would become not only my favorite anime, but one of the most important pieces of media I've ever experienced in my life. I've never related so hard to a character. The friend I watched this show with even caught on before I did the similarities, and when the titular episode "From Zero" happened, I sobbed. I didn't only sob, I wailed like a baby in front of my friend. Every word out of Subaru's mouth felt like a hammer, it hurt, it hurt so much because it felt like all my inner thoughts were just...exploding out into the world for everyone to see. That same friend having been my Rem, so many of the same things I hear from friends coming out of her mouth, it was just...it's insane, how resonant and special that moment was for me. And how the show continues to build on that moment, so many beautiful and wonderful scenes throughout, so many important messages, it really is the peak of empathetic storytelling imo. I am so, so glad it exists, and I'm so glad I got to experience it.

I think one of the main strengths of this series for example, is characters like Emilia who go from being "useless" (I use this term loosely) to becoming a character who believes in herself and finds strength through self love, not through someone else. I think that's a positive message for anyone, and brilliantly highlights what I think one of ReZero's most important messaging is. As well, I think the theme of family in ReZero is incredibly strong and go hand in hand with the stories already amazing character writing. Great video! Honestly, my biggest gripe with those that claim Emilia is useless after only watching season 1 is that we never really see Emilia. She can’t be “useless” and “pathetic” if we never really see what she can do. Not to mention, the whole point of season 1 was to break Subaru and destroy his old personality. If season 1 was all by itself and there was no season 2, then the show does a good job at trying to break the main character.

Really would love to meet the writer of Re:Zero one day. Being able to put character traits, motivations and ideas like that in a story and letting them fight it out and bringing them to their logical conclusion is really something not many writers can pull off like that. There is lots of introspection and interest in the human psyche beyond your own perspective necessary for that.

This video made me cry. A lot of your analysis on Subaru as a hikikomori was exactly how I felt about myself for 10 months at home after I dropped out of school. I experienced a culture shock after returning to my own country, and people immediately expected me to know exactly what to do, and reminded me that it is my responsibility to adapt and learn quickly. I blamed other people a lot for the unfair treatment, but I also blamed myself for not being able to think like others do. In my mind, I thought “what happens if I try to ruin my life as much as possible? It’s not like anyone would care, I don’t even care” and lived like a zombie for the next 2 years, even after I enrolled in a new school. But after meeting the love of my life, after picking up drawing again, and learning new hobbies like cooking, I don’t feel like I’m dead inside anymore. I just couldn’t even see myself as worthy of anything before. If anyone is still experiencing this, it does get better. You don’t have to force yourself to be someone else, but you can remind yourself what makes you awesome, and what you enjoy the most in life. Try something new, and if doing it gives you a sense of happiness and satisfaction, keep doing it! You’ll know when you are onto the right track. And if you really don’t understand why you feel so horrible, it helps to go see a psychiatrist to identify the issue. It’s okay for you to ask for help!

Re:zero started off incredibly misleading. As someone who almost only watches anime because so many of them hit deep emotional chords and profound truths, I usually couldn’t care less about cute characters, fan service, or popular tropes. The first 2 or 3 episodes make it feel like it’s going to be just one of those money milkers, but once you start to see how much of a real attempt is made to imagine someone’s psychology under the whole “return by death” scenario, it starts to change. This video does a really great job explaining why. The first moment I realized there was something deeper to this story was when Subaru totally broke for the first time, and with every new break down I felt this was a story to move the viewer. But then with the scene where Rem refuses to run away with him or when Emilia let’s him cry on her lap, or finally where Satella spells it out, you start to see what it’s all really about. Probably my favorite thing out there now besides Made in Abyss.

Now, Arc 5 and 6 are about 80 chapters long each. But arc 5 takes place after a time skip and arc 6 immediately after arc 5. So it makes sense that they can't have arc 4 and 5 in same season. But arc 5 and 6 should be in the same season considering they are taking place in not a lot of time between the two. But in that case they'll have to adapt 160 chapters in 25 episodes. Which I don't think is possible. Season 3 is in a very weird place imo. If they only adapt arc 5 then it's too short for 25 episodes considering Rezero doesn't show intros and outros a lot. But if they adapt both the arcs then they'd be too big. So I'm not sure.

Not even five seconds in and the music choice is a masterstroke. It brings back all the feelings from the show at once. This anime is just top tier. I love that they actually show Subaru not being able to handle a lot of the situations and him breaking down when he can't. The whole arc where Subaru becomes someone you don't enjoy as a person anymore was heartbreaking and painful. But the real thing for me is the character growth. You actually get to feel for what Subaru is going through and how he feels about himself. Then, you get to see him grow and change into a better person. When Rem brings him back from the brink I was shouting and cheering and crying because it was so cathartic after what Subaru (and the audience) went through, and you could see Subaru finally understand. Season 2 didn't let up on that but we also got to focus on Emilia and what she was going through and her struggle to overcome it. It's hard to express just how good this story is and what it means to me.

When I first watched Re Zero, I felt a sense of connection with Subaru. I related to most of his experiences and understood his decision making. I think I'm a selfless person because I do things for others. I try to carry everyone's burdens and make it my own, so that I'll be the one suffering in their behalf. I am desperately fixing everything, even when things aren't broken. But, I was being selfish. I did all that in hopes that someday, someone will love me. That someday, someone can see right through me, and help me. The difference between me and Subaru is that, I have no one. My family constantly reminding me that I'm a mistake, and that I shouldn't even exist. That I'm a disappointment, and no one cares about me. The feeling of self loath just gets heavier when my ex friends proved it. Everyone I was friends with treated me as if I'm their least favorite friend. Or the backup friend. Or that friend who's only purpose is to help them out. Because I always made myself available for everyone. I prioritize everyone's wellbeing rather than my own. But even with everything that I do, they eventually leave. I had a few friend circles back on highschool, but I was always alone. Only one friend stuck by my side, and tried to introduce me to his other friends to ease my feelings of worthlessness. But, in that friend group, everyone knew each other, other than me. I felt like an outcast. And they always forget about me when they hang out as well. A few months after that, this same friend that stuck by dragged me into a school club. I got close with a few people there, but again, as the friend circle get bigger... I got left out once again. I didn't like treating people as friends, for my definition of "friend" is people that'd abandon me. I had a few ex lovers but all of them just used me either to get better grades, or to make someone jealous. I have no self worth. Everyone that I loved didn't truly love me back. My exes, my friends, even my family. They all keep reminding me how easily replaceable I am, and how insignificant my existence is. I cut ties with everyone a year ago, but I felt lonely. I reconciled with some of the friends that I still trust, and only 4 stayed. After years of denying that I need help, after years of refusing to tell them what's on my mind... I told them some of the things that's bothering me. But... it pains me so much. One of the people I trusted with my problems before told me that I shouldn't trauma dump. Because of those words, I always feel like I'm bothering people when I talk about myself and my problems. And sure enough, because I cried everyday, my remaining friends got tired of me and half just gave up. The remaining ones tries to convince me that they still care, but I feel like they're lying too. I did meet an amazing person just before 2022 ended, I finally got to hear everything I wanted to hear from someone. I finally got someone who understands me. But because of that reason, I don't want to lose her. I don't want to trauma dump again and have her carry my burdens for me. I want to prevent every scenario that'd make her abandon me too. But a few days passed by and I feel like it's all fake. Like she's also lying. That no one truly cares. I got told before that I should start loving myself for people to love me. But I can't because when I think of myself, I only see the loser that everyone abandoned and used. I'm afraid of someone loving me. Because that wouldn't be true. No one can love me because I don't even love myself. I'm currently dying of self starvation. I locked myself in my room again, my mom kept shouting how insufferable I am and that I'm worse than my lazy father. But I'm not lazy, I had lost hope a long time ago. I don't have dreams, my only goal is to die. I hate my life. I hate myself. Everything hurts. And yet when she opens my door, I immediately put a blank face and hide what I feel. I wanna do something. I want to function. I want to help people. I want to be able to be great at something again. But I can't. Not anymore. I need help. But I don't think I deserve any. And reaching out to people feels so wrong. I fail at everything I do, I even fail at dying. I'm barely even living at this point. All I do is sit and watch the ceiling all day or try to distract myself from reality by playing games or watching videos. I wanna die. I wanna live. I want someone to save me. I want to save myself. I want to do something. But I simply, cannot. Everything hurts. I'm ignoring the only person that possibly cares about me for the fear that she might not be true. I don't know what to do. I want to give up. In fact, I already gave up.

I just want to tell you. Don't think it's all a lie, when someone tells you they really do want to stay friends and care about you there isn't much of a reason for those words to be a lie! I think all those people might have a rotten side to them, after all they're only human as are we all. But that means if they eventually hurt you even more, they let the worst of themselves show and it doesn't mean you were right to doubt from the start. All these words people use to call you a burden are them being the worst version of themselves, but you can feel betrayed and still believe they were once people you could believe in. I think that other person truly cares and truly hope you were able to talk again. It does sound like the root of your problems is your family though. I'm really sorry for that, and I think you need to keep being honest to your current loved ones because eventually you need support to get out of that house.

Watching this video about re: zero, I never knew that something like that would happen to me. I got a great score, became the top student in my class, etc. But ever since the start of this semester, I wasn't able to get a good score, keep worrying about everything, etc. And it came to a point that I just wanted to get a bad score, just don't want to go to school, and wanted my mom to be mad at me for everything I did. But she never did, I know that she is disappointed, but she was never mad at me and just keep encouraging me to do my best. I've never cried for a long time and I just don't want to cry, but it did almost make me cry just thinking about what my mother said. Another thing is that from the start of this semester, I had someone who I don't like, that person used to be my friend but not anymore. The thing is that I didn't realize that there are more people with whom I can be friends, and now I actually was able to make some friends and was able to almost completely forget my hatred. And one more thing, right now I still don't have a good score, but at least I'm trying to change my mindset for the better. I'm still trying to not only rely on myself and let others help me. I hope I can keep on changing for the better even if it's slow because it's better than being nothing even though sometimes I wish for myself to perish from this world. Even now, I still trying to discover what I wanted and what I should do. If you are reading until this far, I hope you can have a good experience of life. I wanted to say more but I don't know how to say it, so I'll just leave it here.

It may seem cringey, but Subaru is honestly a character that I connect with more than any other in Media. His aggression, his self loathing, his need to prove himself, the face he puts on to assure everyone that things and himself are alright… People who dislike the show frequently say how much they disliked Subaru for all of his flaws, but i feel like they’re missing the point that he’s written specifically to make them feel that way for him until he grows.

I was also of a very similar mindset that re:zero was a middling anime, about mediocre to above average at best. Season 2 had immediately impressed me, and like you spurred on a new perspective by which to understand the narrative, and having gone back to rewatch season 1 with this new perspective, scenes that I previously had found awful and cringey suddenly had so much more impact and nuance to them I didn't see before. Another perspective I would like to offer for your consideration, is that there are moments in season 2 that act as an antithesis to the idea that re:zero is narrative driven. Many criticisms revolve around Subaru not acting the way he should, or unreasonably in a given situation, along with the idea that the anime would take a direction where Subaru learns about events in a previous time loop, and apply them his best advantage. Which he does to an extent, but there are moments that had me questioning his choices, or lack thereof. For example, Roswaald gives Subaru the keyword to Beatrice, so that she would act in any way he wanted. This is clearly a powerful tool, and using this he could solve so many problems that he had. However, he never uses it, and that left me almost annoyed that he never did. However, the moment when Pride causes Subaru to break apart, she makes a comment to the effect of "You are a good person, who believes they are a bad person." It is clear how Subaru thinks of himself, but what goes deeper than that I think, is how is he a good person? And I believe what it is is that, despite his lowest moments where he acts like a douche, or makes decisions for other people, he always held a respect that the people he was interacting with were human. And this sense of respect deepened as the series progressed, he began to understand people, when he wouldn't try to before. For a plot about going back in time and redoing things, this is actually a very significant trait to Subaru, and why he is worthy of being a main character, despite his many flaws for this exact kind of narrative. The idea that going back in time and redoing things causes one to lose the ability to see others as living people was explored by Undertale, but Re:Zero takes the opposite approach where Subaru actually sees others as more human and more alive. And this is where Roswaal comes in as an antagonist to Subaru. Roswaal does not see the other characters as living people worthy of respect, they are pieces to be moved to push a narrative to fulfill his own goal. He believes that he understands everyone, and that he understands the optimal way to push them to do what he desires. He believes that Subaru is the same way, but that cannot be farther from the truth. His idea that he understand the other characters, and the correct way to move the narrative to his liking, is proven incorrect several times already. Because he cannot see the other characters as their own living people with their own feelings, rather than set pieces, he could never truly understand them. And that is why I think Subaru refusing Echidna's deal is so important, because by taking Echidna's deal, he makes the world become that narrative/plot driven story that we had all thought Re:Zero was originally. It becomes about making the right choices, moving people in the right way, to push the narrative to the happy ending that he desires. But to do so would be to lose respect for the world, and for the people in it. And so for a story about understanding yourself and growing as a person, understanding others and helping them grow in their own way, because you love them, and to eventually grow to love yourself, taking Echidna's deal would've ruined the point of Re:Zero. This is what I had taken away from the second season, and I hope you would consider this point of view as well!

I think it's because re zero has so many very real and relatable feeling characters that it's very upsetting to read about other people viewing it as a cheap drama. As someone who's still struggling with depression, gender identity, and feeling like an imposter at all times, re zero is very close to my heart. To be honest reading the web novel version of parent and child is one of the main reasons I opened up to my parents about my own mental health struggles, in some ways I was doing the same thing as subaru, waiting for my parents to hate me so they could provide the motivation I needed to get my shit together. But of course they never did, cause my parents are good parents just like Subaru's. I recognize that re zero has flaws and isn't for everyone because it's very intense, but anyone who calls it just cheap drama for shock value is clearly just missing large parts of it's themes and story.

@@hotox23-56 I think the adaptation is very good but I felt more immersed in the re zero world when reading it if that makes sense. I think having a lot more internal dialogue and little details and the somewhat slower pace reading it gives makes the novel better in some ways. When reading it I was always trying to figure out what was gonna happen next and nitpicking all the details as I read along, but you can't do that nearly as well when it's animated so sometimes things can feel somewhat rushed/not as impactful in the anime because of that. Basically I think a lot of it comes down to the written versus anime format rather then the adaptation being bad, with a source material like re zero some stuff is always lost when animated. However the adaptation itself is incredible and I still would have absolutely loved it even if I hadn't read the wn. Plus the music, voice and and animation does add a lot too. My one major worry is that arc 6 won't work quite as well animated, since so much of it is mental and detail/mystery heavy.

Thank you. Finally someone getting Re:Zero's beauty! I have had this opinion since i first watched it. Re:zero has been my number1 since i first saw it. Subaru has been my number one hero since i first saw him.

Subaru truly is one of the best written protags I've ever had the pleasure of reading about and watching. And I didn't like him at first but that's the point. I saw a lot of my own bad traits in my past self. Arc 4 is such an amazing turning point for a lot of characters especially Emilia and Subaru.
