    D&D lives as long as there is a GM and players...new content can be self-made, I don't ever buy commercial content. I am almost 60, been playing and GMing since 1979. I am playing a Pathfinder 2e game online and GM a D&D 5e in-person game for my best friend's family. I really appreciate your videos, I came here originally because I wanted some insights for running Lost Mine of Phandelver, which my friends had in a box set they owned for several years but had not read/played it yet. As their son hit 12 they asked if I would run for them. So game on! I have always had an aversion to spending money on an intellectually driven game, all you need is a group of keen players and your imagination. The basic D&D rules are free...I also house rule A LOT. My games are entertainment and suspense-driven...it is about having FUN. Music theme band Jethro Tull. Thanks again my hippie punk friend 😈

    Love to hear it, I agree 100%. I have made a few how to play for free videos for D&D and PF2E to help spread that concept. You don't need anything but friends and an imagination. And if you have enough imagination, you can play with imaginary friends!

    I have a friend that works at B&N, buys all the books and gifts me many. All the players I currently play with were introduced to D&D by me. They all prefer to run modules when they DM and are generally in awe of my ability to make it up as I go. I frequently tell them they're all capable of it, but so far, only 1 has had the confidence to try (to great success, in my opinion)

    I really like this channel. Ryan makes me feel like he is speaking directly to me. He is quick to the point without a lot of fluff. The temptation to constantly self-promote in order to "get the numbers up" is strong, no doubt. But my hope is that solid, clear content like this will one day be rewarded.

    I'm a new DM and our table has only been doing 5e for about a month or two and we're fully bought in with physical, digital, Roll20, Beyond, etc... There's almost zero chance of anyone in our group desiring to shift to One D&D and learn something new or unlearn things they JUST wrapped their heads around. We're currently doing Lost Mine for the first time (which brought me to your channel) and we're already discussing what the next adventure / module should be or if I should slap on Icespire Peak or go on to Shattered Obelisk with a big tone shift. Tomb, Rime, and Ghosts have also been heavily discussed. 5.5e or One or w/e came at such a bad time for us that it's probably going to get completely ignored by our entire group until we've gone through most of the adventures we want to do in 5e. If they double down on it and start messing with digitial content and books that we've already purchased we might just completely pull out of Beyond / Wizards entirely and do our own thing. We also have people in our group (including myself) that are interested in Call of Cthulhu and one of my players originally came from Pathfinder. All of this is happening before we even get to the can of worms that is the politics behind some of the decisions being made or the obvious greed from Hasbro / WotC. All that's just the cherry on top.

    Best commentary on this yet. The first “dnd” table I ever sat at the dm brought pathfinder 1e and to all of us that was dnd and we knew nothing else. Seeing all the online vitriol over what WotC is doing, I instantly thought of the potential for another pathfinder to emerge. But I’m also not going to panic until I see what WotC cooks up. My only concern as a new dm is not having much official content/modules to run, but maybe those are easier to convert than I realize

  • @RdotDoyle

    @RdotDoyle

    2 ай бұрын

    Thanks for that. I think wherever we land we're going to be great, and we're already seeing some great games come out of this with more on the way. I believe it gets easier to convert things as you gain more experience, and ultimately it depends on what system you land in. It's easier the lighter the rules, but with crunchier stuff like Pathfinder it's smart just to find appropriate monsters to slot in and use their official stat blocks to keep some balance. Obviously you can reskin the monsters to fit the theme/story you're telling.

    @@GrippaNL I like the mastery idea for skills. He's definitely looked around and taken the best ideas from several systems, including a lot of PF2E DNA. It seemed weird to me there for a second as well, but it's a lot like many games skill trees where you can invest multiple points in the same area to make it better and better. LMoP is where a lot of folks found me. I was in the middle of DoIP last year when the OGL rumors started flying, and it's made it a little trickier for me to just be the WoTC guy, you know? RPG video game music is my choice currently. I like immersion in the games I run. Back in the day I used to run the horror RPG, "Chill" and had some of the best and scariest game sessions while playing the soundtrack for a theatrical stage production of "Dracula". The music was so inherently creepy that it fed the tension around the gameplay. I want my D&D music to mesh with the setting in the same way. Off-topic point. I disagree about the D&D movie. It sucked badly. People are giving it a pass because it's the first commercial success of a specifically D&D movie to hit the big screen. But if you were to say, put it on a scale containing all the MCU movies, it would rank near the bottom of that list. Better than "The Eternals" but worse than "Thor: Love and Thunder". On the bright side, if another D&D movie gets made, they've set the bar really low for making a better one. And they don't even need to use the same characters.

  • @RdotDoyle

    Oh great recommendations. I used to use a lot of video game soundtracks in session, threw off my Spotify algorithm big time lol. It's perfectly reasonable for us to disagree about the movie, it's all opinion after all. I think I liked it for the ways it wasn't like an MCU movie. I was afraid they'd try and fail to make a low budget version of those, but they did actually steer more towards the tone and vibe of D&D, at least to my eye.

The miniature line is dying on the vine for pathfinder and most local stores don’t run it. People complain about GW (me included)but every time I walk into my local store the tables are packed.
