The End of Angmar & the Angmar War - Who is Elrond? - Tolkien & LotR Lore (Third Age)

Ойын-сауық

Today we explore the End of Angmar - the realm of the Witch-king in the Third Age. This includes the tragic story of Arvedui in the final years of the Angmar War, but also Gondor finally sending help to Arnor. Though the Witch-king of Angmar conquered all of Arnor, he still had powerful enemies, who could challenge him.
We also look into a bit into the Lossoth, the Snowmen of Forochel.

    I've always thought you to be a great content creator because you have everything needed,- great research, organization, presentation, enthusiasm and trilled R's. I especially enjoy your narration because your voice speaks almost in cadence, and has the same effect as listening to waves roll up on the seashore in a calming sleep audio. Would you be my dad and read me bedtime stories at night? Another well done video, dude.

    That is true. Sometimes a German accent can sound harsh to the ears of English speakers, but Chris doesn't have that issue and his pronunciation of languages from the Legendarium gives me an idea of what they really sound like. In his second video with Dan, he says Isengard correctly and it caught me off guard because no one else does. We all say it as "I"- sen-gard instead of "E"-sen-gard.

    This is such a great channel. Tolkien created such a rich world you could cover nothing but middle earth and never run out of content. The characters alone have so much depth, along with the long history of the world there is just so much talk about. You do fantastic job breaking it all down. Please keep it up

    Thank you for this video, Chris! I really enjoyed hearing about the events in the years between the Silmarillion and The Lord of The Rings! I didn’t know that the ring of Barahir had been gifted again, for (again) people saving the life of the holder of that ring. I’m looking forward to the next episode! ✌🏼💖

    Thank you as well ^^ Yes that's a really interesting little detail which I like a lot. In my mind it was Elrond who retrieves the Ring of Barahir, but looking into the texts again that seems to be not correct and it's stated that the Dúnedain got it back from the Lossoth. Also I hope you are doing well.

    @@ThePhilosophersGames it really is. Interesting side note- Stephen King wrote a book, "The Eyes of the Dragon". Wonderful story, fantasy. There's 2 nods to Tolkien in the story 1) The Anduan sea (pronunciation exactly like Anduin), and 2) the king in the story kills a dragon with an arrow of similar description to Bard the Bowman's in the Hobbit. It was originally the king's fathers arrow and its name is Foe-Hammer. Interesting Easter egg I stumbled upon I've been dying to share for awhile!

    Yes good question. I asked this myself as well. maybe he wanted to establish a base there but it was far less ideal than he thought? Maybe when he had to flee from Fornost he could not go to Lindon and could only flee north west (while he sent his son earlier to Lindon when it was still possible)?

    I have a question on the pronunciation of a word or two. In Sindarin words that start with I are pronounced like a Y, like in Iant Iaur. This rule also applies to certain words in unstressed syllables, such as Doriath, from Dôr Iath. So for the word Dorwinion (and Dorthonion) would you pronounce the -ion as -eeon, or -yon? Anways, always appreciate that you stick to the actual pronunciations how Tolkien himself intended them! :D

  • @ThePhilosophersGames

    @ThePhilosophersGames

    2 жыл бұрын

    As far as I understand it, this only applies when the initial i is before another vowel. "I initially before another vowel has the consonantal sound of y in you, yore in Sindarin only: as in Ioreth, Iarwain." I might have pronounced this wrong in the past, because I often forget about this 😂

    Gundabad exists in the books, but it has no connection to Thranduil. It's also a mountain and a important place for the Dwarves (Durin I awoke there). orcs occupied it at though and Dwarves conquered it back a few times. One connection it has to Hobbit was that in the War of Dwarves and Orcs (we see the final battle of it in a flashback in Hobbit film , where Thorin became known as Oakenshield). There the Dwarves also conquered back Gundabad for a time, but the orcs probably took it back later and gathered there when marched to Erebor for the Battle of the Five Armies.
