Attack on Titan is my first anime too. I feel like I’m pretty satisfied with the ending. I also wouldn’t exactly say that it all meant nothing, because Eren did what he said he wanted to do in episode 1: he rid the world of Titans. But humanity will always fight and have disagreements.

That's actually the only scene that separates from the manga. In the manga, Armin actually thanks Eren for "becoming a mass murderer for our sakes," and there's no seashell or hug or mention of them going to hell.

​@@305IndependentThanks for the information, I've never read the AOT manga before, although I was told (on internet) that manga ended poorly long ago, I was too afraid the manga reading gonna ruin my expectation on the anime. Thank goodness they made it so well, now I understand why Armin is so important character, I did not realize it, I'm glad I get to appreciate Armin at the end of the story. Again, thank you Isayama, thank you Mappa.

Levi’s “give your hearts” salute to his dead comrades, while tears rolled down his cheek hit me hard. His physical condition visually represents how he continues to take the burden of remembering all his fallen comrades. He will always be my favorite character. Lastly, I was just glad we didn’t lose any of the last surviving members of the scout regiment.

Mikasa did what Ymir couldn’t. That’s what Ymir was waiting for. Someone who could kill/turn her back on the one she loved. Mikasa was able to do it. Ymir was not. That’s why she was subservient to the King for 2,000 years, waiting for someone (Mikasa) to show it was possible.

Ready to have your mind blown? Remember Ramzi? She was watching him for the same reason b4 he got crushed, he - like her - could not let go what he loved, or in the last words of Kenny Ackerman, what he was a slave to, and so he saw her watching him b4 she died. He died for the money and hope it would bring for his people, she died for king fritz and her unrequited love of him, Mikasa, by not dying for her love - for what enslaves her - and instead killing him, allowed Ymir to finally do the same and be free of her bondage. PS. this ending was already foreshadowed/mirrored with Season 1 Ymir, who made the same choices as Founder Ymir. Such an amazing story 😫

I still prefer Zeke's explanation, that the parasite in Ymir made her not kill the king cuz it wanted to multiply and continue existing, thus you see it super desperate to return to Eren cuz it knows that if Eren dies then there is noone to protect it, and it dies eventually. Ymir's love for the king plot was such a lazy explanation that I think is only Eren's thinking but not a reality. Ymir confuses that parasite's slight control over her with "love", it turns into obsession.

Yes, Luke, Eren tested if he could change the future. Best example is when he asked Connie about Sasha’s last words before she died. That question was a test. He knew it was “meat” and Connie just confirmed it. Remember his face expression? He didn’t ‘laugh’ because he was having a mental breakdown as most people think; in that moment he knew he couldn’t do anything about it: the future he saw WILL happen as he saw it.

While I appreciate tidbits like that, the colossal titan becoming a nuclear bomb after season 2 was a killjoy. Same with the plot convenience where they think eren can activate the rumbling after zeke was killed. Lots of other plot conveniences like pieck having that much stamina was also there, which she didn't use during the liberio raid.

​@@LessPegasusit appears the colossal can choose because in both s1 and 2 it didn't explode, I guess it has to do with the explosive release of steam or something like that, since berthold did do it on purpose in s3 p2, but I agree it's kind of a plot hole That was gabi, the same person who saw eren activate the rumbling the second his head connected with the worm, it was a theory/possibility and a risk they couldn't bear This point just doesn't make sense, she spent the entire fight in titan form shooting until she got literally blown away and couldn't transform again until she was healed, it's literally a prerequisite for transforming like that, the same reason why zeke or eren couldn't transform in season 3 and 2 respectively

I feel too that this ending was a 10/10. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 That subtle change in the conversation between Eren and Armin was the icing on the cake. It gave closure to Eren’s decision and lifted that heavy burden by telling his friend I’m responsible too because I put the idea in your head and although I’ll live in peace and go along with your plan because of you, I too will suffer alongside you forever when I die. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and Eren needed to know that he would not be alone in the end from his best friend. The resolve and the face Mikasa made when she killed him as she was the last thing Eren sees was the cherry on top. You know how hard it is to LET GO!!?? To chose everything else over yourself? Because she could’ve let Eren annihilate humanity and ran off with him after everything was said and done. He could’ve extended his lifespan and they could’ve lived happily ever after with the Earth quiet and the island flourishing. It hurt me that they did not get the happy ending they deserved because of a war they had no choice but to fight in smh. And even though history repeated itself, it was guaranteed that Mikasa, Armin, and the gang lived the rest of their lives in peace because of him. It’s messed up that he couldn’t see any other option and set this own destiny to ruin for their sakes 😮‍💨 As far as Ymir goes, I feel she was a slave to love, same way Eren was a slave to freedom and everyone else was a slave to something. Those who’ve been in abusive relationships, broken homes, separated families, etc know what I’m talking about when I say people who don’t experience love the right way tend to hold onto it even if it’s ugly. She was a slave, worthless, nothing. Her family was killed, tongue sliced off, villages burned to the ground. Her life was less significant than a pig. She became something because of the power she obtained. In her mind, she was chosen and felt special underneath the trauma. She got married, had sex and gave birth to 3 children with King Fritz. Another act that associates with love even if it was just lust and power moves for him. The fact that he showed some type of affection and interest to a slave (although the manga/anime shows otherwise) is the reason she held tf on and would not allow herself to let go. She allowed herself to die and left her CHILDREN to suffer because of that man. The regrets start to follow later on as I’m sure she had 2000 years to think about it and she wondered if there was someone out there like her who, in spite of loving tf out of someone, choose themselves, others, and what’s right even if it meant giving up on the one thing you cherished the most. She’s seen the future, the multiple outcomes and possibilities and saw it come to fruition, giving closure to herself. That’s the reality of it. People say they hate how the ending turned into romance but fail to realize that love was part of this story the whole time. Mikasa loved Eren, and Eren loved Mikasa the same way. Armin and Annie developed feeling for each other. Jean was in love, Connie and Sasha had a platonic relationship that became family. Hell, even Levi had love and admiration for Erwin. Love is natural in human nature just as much as war. But love couldn’t be conveyed properly throughout the manga/anime because they had to deal with the underlining problem and it was always pushed to the side. The post ending made sense because at the end of the day, history repeats itself even after the world got destroyed multiple times. It’s clear that the titan cycle would be reappear someday because Zeke made it clear in the paths conversation with Armin that the hallucigenia has the instinct of survival and multiplying. The fact that everything disintegrated except for Eren’s head meant that those powers was gone but not lost. (Theory) Eren would replace Ymir and grant that boy the founding titan’s power I wasn’t trying to make this a long post but this is Attack on Titan we’re talking about. Hajime made a phenomenal story and it will be remembered as one of the best anime’s of this generation ♥️

Here's my interpretation for the ending. It is a FITTING ending for Attack on Titan and is CONSISTENT with the main theme/objective/premise of the show = "To Get Rid Of All Titans From This World" = That is AoT's origin story. The 2000 years history of Attack on Titan can be viewed as Founder's Ymir personal struggle to overcome her Stockholm Syndrome (A real mental struggle where the captors fell in love with the kidnappers). She knows she is supposed to hate King Fritz who burned down her village, killed her family, enslaved and torture her. But being born and living the life she had, she still yearned for love and unfortunately fell for the worst man possible. OVERSIMPLICATION yes but it gets the main gist. Ymir is the only one with the power to decide what happens with the Titan's power. Even in the episode "From you, 2000 years ago" Eren only prompted Ymir's to decide. However, like Eren said, he is powerless from this, as the Attack Titan he can see and experience the past, present and future all at the same time, he tried to look for alternative solutions but the vision of the future just WOULD NOT change. He didn't wanna go through with the Rumbling (his personal struggle and monologue in Part 1 movie) but he had very little choice, his only way is to move forward, he is A SLAVE OF FREEDOM. Mikasa on the other hand, is the real person Ymir was waiting for all these while because Ymir sees herself in Mikasa. The "Runaway story" is like Infinite Tsukiyomi, it is only a VISION of a possible future, the viewer experience it fully but it never happened in reality nor there is another timeline. Mikasa was presented with 2 scenarios, 1) Abandon humanity and embrace love, runaway with Eren, but this way Ymir continue to being a slave, Titan power remains and continue to terrorize humanity 2) Save humanity while sacrificing her love (she can still love Eren nonetheless), kills Eren, and Ymir can finally be free of Fritz command and choose to remove Titan Power from this world. Mikasa was able to influence Ymir to make the decision to be free from King Fritz. Hence in Ymir's vision she chose not to protect King Fritz (this is only symbolism, the past didn't change, only showing the change of Ymir's heart) The whole conversation between Armin and Zeke is basically a discussion about nihilism thinking that basically says "what's the point of living if all things eventually die, why does anything matter if everything comes to an end/dies" - and Isayama's answer to that was "Every small moment and happiness is worth living, even though all good things come to an end" - This is also a BRILLIANT 4th wall break homage saying THANK YOU to the readers - "Even if AoT is about to end/dies, every moment that we (Isayama and fans) shared together was WORTH IT" The Ending/Conclusion of Attack on Titan is spoke through Levi's monologue = the sacrifice of the hearts of the scout regimen was to reach this place - "A WORLD WITHOUT TITAN". This brings the whole AoT story to a FULL CIRCLE. It might not feel satisfying for some but it is a SUITABLE, FITTING, PERFECT Ending consistent and complete with its origin - "Getting Rid of Titans from this world". Isayama didn't set out to provide a solution for human conflict, what he did was only pointing out through Pixis and Erwin that "human conflict will never end until there's only 1 man remain." He emphasized it once again through the end credits shots - nor matter what happens, human conflict never ends. Even if the Rumbling was complete, Paradis will still fight a civil war, even if Paradis was wiped out, the human remain will continue fighting". However to say this end is MEANINGLESS was a misinterpretation, the whole discussion on the boat with Historia's letter is designed to specifically answer this - they shall continue to fight in a world without titan, and they shall always aim for peace - "they will want to hear our story, how we used to fight as enemies have now come together to advocate for peace" and THIS IS Attack On Titan, a story about conflict, about human cruelty, about war, about racism, despite EVERYTHING that happened, the ending comes down to both sides reconciling, advocating for peace and working for a better future. THAT is the MAIN MESSAGE of Attack On Titan - DESPITE EVERYTHING, we should strive for peace. Isayama did give a conclusion (conclusion not solution) about human conflicts but a lot of people missed this. I can understand if you can say it's not satisfying for everyone but there's 1000 Hamlets in 1000 people's eyes. It still doesn't takeaway all the GREAT PLOTWIST and BRILLIANT WRITING of ISAYAMA the GENIUS. Thank you Isayama, Thank you Mappa and Wit, Thank you for all the staffs that worked on this MASTERPIECE. Just as Armin am glad to be born to race with Mikasa and Eren, and Zeke was glad to be born to play catch. I am glad I am born in this era to witness this Masterpiece. Additional fun fact about AoT is it takes some inspiration from Norse mythology - Ymir = Founder of Frost Titans, Yggdrasil = the tree of life that connects the 9 realms, this is where the tree in the path is based on I believe and Jormungandr = the World Serpent that eats it own tails, a symbol of infinity = the weird snake like thingy that seem to be the source of Titan Power. The connection is NOT STRONG but I think Isayama definitely taken some inspiration from it. WEIRDLY enough, the whole Reiner vs group of Warhammer Titan reminds me A LOT of Assassin Creed Valhalla - headbutting, throwing axe, rush and bash...Idk man it looks sus.

I just read your comment and wanted to thank you for writing this brilliant analysis/conclusion or perhaps just these thoughts of yours here. You really summed it up well. (Although I'm sure there are tons of other things to be talked and thought about in this series). Attack On Titan has hereby ended... Hard to believe, after having been a fan all the way on this long journey. From Paradis, fighting Titans to a full out war with Marley and the rest of the world. It truly was one hell of a ride. AoT really is a piece of art in my eyes, with all its story telling, dialogue, messages, etc. Thank you again for your great comment, and thank you, Isayama, staff, VAs, animation studios and all others not mentioned here for their work on this series.

Every one who wasn't in pre-school saw that ending coming given how eren said "I want them to live a long life" on the dawn of humanity episode. More or less, it wasn't because the ending was sad that it felt as not good, but because snk was a show that banked on unpredictability. Don't even get me started on how the colossal titan became a nuclear bomb for plot convenience. Compared to the prior episodes the finale felt like a marathon of plot conveniences.

Give me a list of “plot conveniences” in this finale, and I’ll gladly explain why they aren’t. Starting with your baffling claim about the Colossal Nuke. Did you not watch season 3 pt 2? Or season 4 pt 1? I’ll admit that in season 1, Bert did somehow transform right next to the wall without incinerating Eren, but that just means the author fleshed out the Colossal’s ability later on, waaaay before the finale. In order for it to be a plot convenience for the finale, it would have to only be present in the finale

1:21:09 Armin was talking to Eren in the paths. Next he finds himself on board the Azumabito ship, on their way to prepare the flying boat, NOT remembering he talked to Eren. Eren said he wouldn’t remember until their fight was over. He actually talked to all of his friends prior to the final fight. Only to remember after the fight was over as Eren wanted.

My close friend introduced the anime world and this was the very first anime I watched, AOT was his favourite….he is no more in this world, he died of cancer few months ago….I wonder what would be his reaction. I dedicate this to him ❤

The dream of Eren and Mikasa living together in Eren's remaining 4 years was a dream granted by Ymir in like some sort of gift for the couple, hence why Ymir is standing there watching them both in the transition from dream Mikasa kissing Eren to present Mikasa kissing Eren. It's the same power Ymir used in episode 1 to give Eren dreams from the future. It's a very subtle ability Ymir has that I saw a lot of people misinterpreting when the final chapter of the manga came out. Masterpiece Edit: so I see a lot of people who thinks that the dream is a possible time line situation or Eren's doing but I can explain a couple more things about the scene. In AoT it's common that when memories or dreams happen by influence of the founding titan or the attack titan's power, the person mimicks their actions in real life at the same time it happens in the real world, like Eren siting like Krueger when he's reliving Krueger and Grisha's conversation. Now that's exactly what happened in the kiss scene, Mikasa wasn't even aware she was kissing Eren's decapitaded head since she was actually kissing him in her dream hence the name of the chapter "The Long Dream", the IRL Mikasa is just mimicking herself in the dream. The same goes for Eren in his dream at episode one when he wakes up crying. Also don't confuse Mikasa's "Long Dream" with everyone elses ( they just showed Armin's ) memories of Eren talking to them and wiping their memory right after, these are two very different things. About the Mikasa's dream being Eren's doing, it's heavily implied it's a Ymir thing, maybe in the manga they showed it better but, Eren is dead while Mikasa it's still in the dream hence he doesn't have the power to do that anymore if it was him, coicidentely Ymir is standing there with the couple while the kissing and the dream was happening, and Isayama doesn't do these things without a good reason. I read this chapter in the manga more than 50x since it was the most confusing chapter of the series, everyone who tried to explain it at the time was giving different answers or meanings to it and it takes a lot of understanding of the tropes through the series to understand what everything means.

Maybe that is why so much people hate the ending, they think Eren is the one who have control of everything, including YMIR. But in reality, Eren is a victim too. Eren just a boy who want to make his true love and his friend happy. Eren and The king is different. Eren want to make his woman(Mikasa, his true and pure love) to be happy. While King Frizt just see YMIR as a tool. But YMIR want to see Mikasa to kill Eren, so YMIR can free from her own love toward King Fritz that make YMIR suffer for 2000 years. That's too brutal. This is what make me cry.

I didn't even feel sad because "dawn of humanity" emphasised what eren's plan was going to be. That is to be the become the villain, and let others be the heroes. I would say this is the ending they got stuck with.

Eren's actions were not done for NOTHING. We saw through Mikasa, his loved ones got to live long and happy lives. But of course war and conflict never truly stop.

I don't agree the message was that "it was all meaningless". Armin and Zeke's conversation about the meaning of life, is pretty direct and fits with the ending. Also of course there's always gonna be war, that's how the world works. But Eren ensured that his friends and people were able to survive. I didn't get the impression that the island got destroyed. If you're referring to the bombs during the ending song, the people could've just moved to a different place. Also Levi lost his eye when Zeke detonated himself. You just couldn't see it becouse of the bandages. His leg got bitten by a titan when he saved Connie in this episode. Levi rarely smiles, doesn't mean he's not happy. The reason he looked that way looking at the lollipop, is likely a callback to the clown he met handing him one when they first visited Marley. To give some comic relief at the end, though i do agree it wasn't a necessary addition. You seemed very confused about what Eren said to Armin. One thing to keep in mind is that he has conflicted emotions. He wants Mikasa to live a great life without him, but he also doesn't want her to forget him and move on with someone else. He can't tell her that becouse he knows she's gonna listen to him, which is why he said it to Armin. Again, if he wanted Mikasa be stuck not able to move on he would've said it to her. But he didn't, becouse he loves her. The scene was meant to show that Eren is human and has regrets about dying. You're not the first one who doesn't get the scene, many other people just reduce it to him "simping". Idk why this scene is that confusing to people. You can feel more than one thing at a time. Eren's actions speak for themselves, he fought for his friends and his people to survive. Whether right or wrong, he achieved that outcome.

Yes I agree a lot of people reduce Eren feeling to simping which is sad because it makes it seem like not many people have ever been in love and had felt conflict about letting someone go.

Eren having conflicting feelings makes it so much more real 😭 I've also seen a lot of people complain about Eren "suddenly" crying, but when you look backwards in the story, Eren has always been a emotional person😢 That AND he's like.. what, 19 or something here again? Teens will cry! 😂 I feel like this short moment of emotions and honesty for him made totally sense ❤

Yes. Eren want to live a normal life with Mikasa and his friend like anybody else, but he can't. If he does that, that means entire Paradise Island will be wiped out including him, Mikasa and his friend. it also show that Eren didn't make decision to eliminate population outside Paradise Island easily, but he has to do it anyway, *HE HAS TO MOVE FORWARD* So he basically sacrifice himself, his life, his desire, his freedom to ensure Mikasa, his friend and Paradise Island freedom. This is what make me sad for Eren Yes, it show that Paradise Island, and probably outside world is destroyed from war 100-200 years later bcs there is no such thing as eternal peace. But that didn't mean what Eren did is pointless. Like Historia said, the world future is not just from Eren choices, but the result of all the human and future generation choices. This ending is too realistic to the real life, no wonder some people with idealistic ending will hate it.

People expect Eren to be a GIGACHAD that doesn't giv* a f*ck to anything, which doesn't make sense bcs they forgot that Eren is just a human and 19 year old teens.

I can understand how people would be upset over this ending but I think it was the perfect way to end this. Just shows how realistic the ending was with how the world operates, no matter how much we strive for world peace it will never happen there will always be conflict.

You might have not been there long enough but imagine waiting 10 years for an anime that you have dedicated your life on, just to have an ending that left us with questions and confusion. The way Eren opened his eyes, so Mikasa could be the last thing he ever sees😢😢❤

Many are saying that all of the sacrifices made by various characters were meaningless. Which I get, but the real theme of the show was finally revealed during Zeke and Armins conversation in the paths. The only real joy found by our characters was when they weren't pushing an agenda or fighting others for their "dreams." Armin truly felt like his purpose was to run through nature with his friends and enjoy the meaningless activities of life. Zeke changed his whole worldview after hearing Armin say this, and claims that he would be willing to be born again if he could play catch with his father one more time. This scene holds up a mirror to characters like Erwin, Willy, Floch, the Jaegerists, and Eren. All of them were so obsessed with accomplishing their goals that they lost themselves to the cause. And that cause was ultimately meaningless. I feel like if you opened your mind, you'd see that the show is telling you to enjoy each moment as it passes, and appreciate the good for what it is, even though there will also be times of suffering.

I feel you! The Baby scene was the most heartbreaking scene of them all 😭 Even at the end they haven't gave up the hope that they may could be able to somehow save this little worm.

Im a grown up man but cried like a baby for 4 hours in the night I watched the last episode of AoT. The best series ever. Thank you Hajime Isayama for this wonderful journey.

This is it... I almost didn't sleep this night... I think I'll need time to recover from this end (I'm a manga reader though), it's really good, bitter with some "happy" notes and it has a brutal and pathetic side too... this end makes me go through all emotions but crying actually but more feeling "depressed" by the fact it ends. The OST was perfect! I'm writing this comment when I didn't watch your whole reaction yet Luke, thank you to give your heart to it!

Attack on Titan really understands reality. That the closest wrap-up I can say about so many things I would love to

The tears started flowing for me at the scene with the baby being pushed back from the cliffside, just like you. Then I cried another 3 or 4 times until the end. What an incredible finale, this series will stay in my heart for the rest of my life

I think the depiction of multiple nuclear missiles might suggest a catastrophic nuclear war between both sides that resulted in a regression to a pre-technological era, with the cycle of civilization beginning anew. This scenario could be interpreted as a reset of sorts, with the emergence of a new era of titans from the regrowing tree where eren was buried.

A theory I heard was that the boy discovering the tree (and consequently discovering the source of all matter) the at the end would have a different outcome than it did for ymir. Ymir was fleeing when she fell into the tree and came into contact with the creature, and the result was based off her wish of immortality; there’s no telling what the wishes of the boy are, so the result of him interacting with the creature is very open ended

I was with you from the begging, even though that was my second-third time watching it. After years, still haven't found anything (movies, performances, anime) that would give the same wave of emotions, and i'm not sure ever will. There are insane art works but nothing even close. Every friend of mine, who hates or don't take anime seriously was tortured by me to watch this, so far 80% of them were hooked for life. Not addicted to the reaction channels but you caught my attention. Maybe because i can see, that you are not faking any of your emotions, which is pure gold. As a content creator, you can always hyperbolize some of them but me and everyone could see, that you was sincere and and enjoyed every moment. Felt the same with every of us. hope you will have an amazing life. health to your loved ones.

Eren talked to Armin and everyone else back when they were sailing towards the port to get the flying boat repaired. Then he made it so that they won't remember any of the conversation and will only remember it once Eren is finally killed.

And thanks to this, Eren becomes one of the best written characters in the anime world.

Zeke and Armin's conversation about finding meaning in the little moments was very impactful to me. I appreciated such a life affirming message in a series that reflects the cruelty of our world so well.

I'm from Korea. I watched four or five episodes in season 1 when I was in 2nd grade, and 10 years later, I used the Chuseok holiday as a senior in high school and watched it all seasons in full swing. And even though it was time to sleep before school last Sunday, I didn't want to miss the final episode, so I watched it right after it dropped. Oh my god, I thought that the story would only be about the humans versus titans, but I never expected that there would be such a deep story. I think I'll be on the list of one of the best anime I've watched in my life from now. As a side effect, I think it's hard to see other anime because my standards are high now, lol.

Attack on Titan. This anime was absolutely amazing and loved everything about it. Thank you to the creators and glad we were all able to be a part of the ride Everything in this final episode went hard and I love everything about it Also, the fact that Eren has been telling them everything throughout their lives and erasing their memories is crazy.

you can't seperate humans from violence and war, but Eren could give his friends a peaceful and long life.

I think the small amount of peace Eren gave his friends.. Even years after they die - means something, in the grand scheme of things of course the war finally happened again, but in that small fraction of time where there was peace, there was peace because of those heroes, and people enjoyed that peace. And it meant something.

Apparently the manga is slightly different though. There was a line of Armin thanking Eren for becoming a mass-murderer for their sake and I agree that that is weird. The anime ending is basically perfect imo and if one or two lines ruin the manga ending for someone I honestly don't know what to say to them.

Makes me so happy to see anime onlies having so much fun with the episode and enjoying the ending. Such a breathe of fresh-air after dealing with some of the most insufferable toxic people the anime community has to offer. Glad most people are seeming to enjoy it, it was a wild ride.

not really. As an anime only, I will say the finale had far too many plot conveniences for a show like aot. That being said, there can't be another ending to this. Although, they could've talked it out with eren after zeke died. Mikasa could have cut off eren by his limbs. But no, they chose to make this more cruel.

32:50 Hits in the fathers heart... This scene from the manga shocked me. 1:06:40 Eren finally die... And we saw the 2 endings of Mikasa answer. That scene its the same of the 1 chapter of the manga. 1:25:00 When our mind undertand that this is the end of an EPIC Series.

The best part is the symbol of birds. Since S1, the birds have been symbolizing so many things, and it ended up with the symbol of Eren.

The anime started with birds and eren under that tree pointing at them getting the idea of freedom, wanting to fly like a free bird in the sky with no boundaries. The anime ended with him becoming a bird after gaining freedom and freeing his people and be what he always dreamed of being..... EDIT : for one last time.... SHINZO WO SASAGEYO!!! it was a great journey that we all we remember till death. Peace.

I still remember first time watching s1 of aot on 2013 and man i cant explain its already 10 years from that and this masterpiece is still my favorite...i literally cried at the last episode 😭😭😭😭 Thanks mappa and all team for making our childhood with good memories

1:42:00 I don't think so man, we see Mikasa live to a very advanced age and die an old lady, and after that we see time advance in Paradis continue to a futuristic metropolis. AoT technology is around 1920 or so, post WWI but before WWII technology, and the Paradis that gets nuked in the end looks like cyberpunk. So I think we got a good century plus of peace, and probably the conflict at the end likely have nothing to do with the TItan war, just a completely new conflict. The point being, war doesn't end just because there are no Titans, people will find reasons for war no matter what. And then we go back again.

10/10 Ending! Realistically! I felt happy and sad at the same time. I felt empty because I want more for the ending but the same time I feel satisfied that it ends the way it supposed to be. I've got overwhelmed for the fact that this anime series ended. Truly a masterpiece!

yes it was a 10/10 ending for a 10/10 show

Funfact: The last scene where the skyscrapers are build, a german line is dropped. It's translated to: "The world that broke the boy's sword will reach the top of the skyscraper and look down laughing on the Tower of Babel. Hatred and anger are a double-edged blade. History repeats itself" I think this again shows what a masterpiece AoT is and why it's so well written. Also a thing you were confused about: The scene with Armin and Eren took place in the coordinate during the time Armin was talking to Annie on the boat. But since Eren erased Armins memories, he could only remember it again when Eren was dead. He also had a conversation with every other friend and explained to them, why it was nessecary to do. As Eren said, for him there is no "past" or "future", so he was controlling EVERYTHING. That's also why he didn't let Dina eat Berthold, so Eren can develope the hate against titans he needed. He really wanted it to end another way, but since the future never showed him another way, that was the only way for him to do so. It's so sad to see how Eren had to turn himself into becoming a monster just to protect his loved ones. As he said, he is a slave of freedom - Even tho his biggest wish was to gain freedom. There's also a theory that the bird that was with Mikasa at the ending is Eren, reincarnated as a bird. Actually the bird that wraped the scarf around Mikasa is called "parasitic Jaeger". Isayama you god damn genius.

i remember watching the Under The Tree outro and recalling it looked like Eren's POV as Mikasa carried his head to his future grave under the tree, if you watch it again you'll probably be able to catch it :'(((((( as a manga reader, The Rumbling intro and Akuma No Ko outro held so much more importance to Eren's character and ending than one would pick up on on just viewing alone, it might be worth it to rewatch them (especially the ending) to pick up on things you might not have on a first watch! so glad you got to experience the ending, it was so much to process when the manga chapters came out, I've been so excited to hear your thoughts!

My interpretation of the end is that Mikasa is the seed for a new "Ymir" which is the person we see at the end with the dog and the story repeats itself... Thank you so so much for this reaction Luke!! You have been so honest and genuine all along! I'm still glad I was among the ones who pushed you to watch this show even if I'm also sorry for all the emotions and pain it made you go through.. there is definitely a before and an after this show no matter how we like the ending of it or not. It questions a lot of things and it has a lot of metaphors with life objectives (until where should we go? Where should we stop? Where do we risk to injure others? Etc.). This ending is brutal and Eren's end is pathetic but it goes with the character in the end. The link also between the peaceful scene between mikasa and eren calling back to the very first scene of the show after Eren's nightmare (that was what we just witnessed). I'm once again so glad this show makes me "meet you" Luke or I mean discovering your channel when you reacted to the OPs and I'm glad once again to have followed your journey till the end. I've been watching this anime since it started and now, ten years later, we're finally here. It was so so great; the way it ended, the dreams Eren gave Mikasa and Armin, the fact that everyone got to actually make it in the end (except for Eren).. it was all just... perfect. It was worth the wait, it's the longest anime I've kept up with and I don't regret any minute of it ❤

It was really cruel for eren and even more for mikasa though. I wouldn't say the anime is perfect because of the huge plot conveniences.

1:05:53 The anime cut it out, but we see this in the very first chapter of the manga. Just before Eren wakes up under the tree, in his "dream" he sees Mikasa saying goodbye. The author had it all mostly planned out from chapter one.

I just realized that the tree Ymir walked into and gained the power of the titans was probably left there after the something just like what happened at the ending of attack on titan. There literally could have been countless versions of AOT from all the times the founder was killed, rested for a few hundred years, and the cycle was reset. Over and over. Basically what I’m saying is attack on titan probably happened thousands of times, and it will continue to happen forever, until someone ends the cycle of war.

Thats the point tho, the cycle will not end, war will not end, even if one group survives and everyone is wiped out, then in a few 100 years that group will be divided and start war with each other, thats the message of this ending

Honestly, Attack on Titan is a prime candidate for a REWATCHABLE show. Watching it again with all the information you have now, and will surprise you. Just be sure to massage your eyebrows, cause you're gonna raise them quite a few times. Trust me, I reread the manga and was amazed by the amount of hidden hints all over the place.

Mikasa shows Ymir that even if you love a person, when you need to stand up to him, you do it. Ymir refuses to go back to the Coordinates to make any more titans and moves on, and the titan power ends. For those that still don't understand the last 1/3: they were memories that Eren had taken the time to build and bury inside of each one of his friends' heads at different points in time when he was still alive, by short visits every time. Eren would explain to them what he must do and why. They are like his letters left to them, but in a different form. But every time he locked those memories after the visits, to only be unlocked after he died. His power had limited duration so if he had more to say, he would need to do multiple visits. That's why Armin looked differently in each segments because Eren visited him when Armin was at different ages; the last memory segment was buried in Armin head when he was on the ship with Annie. Once Eren died, all those memories were unlocked and all of a sudden they all understood Eren's true intentions. The middle scene where Eren and Mikasa spent time together was Eren showing Mikasa the alternative future if she had just answered differently when Eren asked her what she thought of him, back towards the end of S4 in the camp. Mikasa refused to stay in that scene and forget him, and woke up when Eren's power ran out. The exchange with Armin: Part of Eren's guilt was for wielding the power but not being smart and therefore he could not imagine any better solutions that could result in a better future than killing 80% of humanity. In a way he was saying if he were any smarter, if the power had been vested in someone smarter like Armin, perhaps the destined future would be better - and he blames himself. Armin essentially said to Eren that he didn't need to bear all the guilt alone, that Armin is willing to share the burden, responsibilities and consequences with him, that he will be happy to spend the rest of eternity in hell together with Eren. They are facing everything together, Eren no longer needs to be alone, even in hell; it's an ultra warm gesture from Armin. At the end, Eren did save most of his friends and everyone he knew on Paradis island. History did eventually repeat itself and Paradis still met its end, but that's hundreds of years later and not relevant to anyone he knew. Yeah there are a lot of details buried that are easy to miss if you just watch this once. If you do a second or third watch, you will see a lot of details. Down to little ones such as Ylena pausing and getting teary eyes because the crate she was about to handle happened to contain baseballs, which reminded her of Zeke.

I swear i didn't sleep at night for this final. I'm alredy shocked for that episode. Thanks AoT for this journey❤️✨

Man, there is so much that I want to say. This was an amazing ending, the whole point of attack on titan is that there are no good guys or bad guys, there’s just people. And this ending just shows that as long as there are people with different ideals fighting will always continue. There are no happy endings in real life because real life won’t end until everything is dead.

I found your channel because of your AOT opening and ending reactions and I’ve been here watching the show for the first time again through your eyes ever since. It’s surreal that this amazing show has come to an end but I’m also thankful for the amazing community (like yours here) that have contributed to making following AOT an absolute pleasure.

The detail when Eren told Mikasa to throw away the scarf is my favorite. Eren was so used to the fact that Mikasa will try everything to please him. Remember in season 1 Eren told Mikasa to cut her hair and she did exactly that the day after. But this time she said no. As if she was trying to tell him that it's her decision to choose what to do, she is free.

Hii! I'm glad I could watch your reaction as soon as I finished watch this final episode. I found your channel through AOT openings, I remembered it clearly when you said that you couldn't wait and feel excited to start watching the anime, I just thought, oh boy, there will be another victim oh this cruel ride :) and I really glad we could come to the end of the fight. Three big moments that really broke me and made me sobbing till I can't breath were: 1. The baby scene that being saved from one hand to another, for me it really showed the cruelty and a little bit hope 2. Armin lost memory about what Eren had been telling him before it happened, oh god, all this time we were thinking that Eren will never be the same, but turn out he visited all of friends and especially Mikasa and had to erased their memory, it is just so sad 3. The mikasa scene under the tree at the very end until the post credit scene, when they all still visited Eren with their family until everything they had been fighting for all gone except the tree. Toward it end, this anime still made me confuse what to feel, sad or happy. I wish there will be another great story! Thank you Mr. Isayama and all teams for this roller coaster ride :)

I'M IN SHOCK, I READ THE MANGA BUT I STOPPED ON EREN DEATH PART, SO I COULD GET SURPRISED, I DON'T REGRET IT!!! IT'S A REAL MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIMES, WE WON'T BE SEEING SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR A WHILE!!!!! AOT is the most watched anime of all time for me, I saw it years ago on season 2 when I didn't know anything about seasons, so I saw season 3 without understanding anything 😂 so I went back and got to understand what was actually going on, yep, I spoiled myself, I already knew about Reiner as a titan, the episode I first saw was the reveal of the traitors and Erwn getting angry, to be fair I didn't care about getting spoiled, but I wished I did watch it since the first episode, the only animes I was watching in that time was Dragon Ball Super and Naruto Shippuden, I didn't watch a lot of animes 😢 the first one different was AoT, and since today I still watch it because I always watch the new people reacting to it, this is why I followed Luke for that journey, I don't regret, the ending is incredible amazing, the animators did a amazing job, no other anime could get this finale so beautiful, good orchestra for the ost, the animation on point, and feelings omg, it's so amazing to be here, Isayama is a legend, if he makd another manga I'll definitely read all of his works!!!!! I'm excited to see what comes next on his future projects, I can see this news bombing internet, the creator of one of the best histories ever making a new history, hopefully will be the greatest gift for us.... Congratulations, the journey paid off!!!!! 👏 👏 👏😭😢 Oh no it's over now 😢

I watched the finale earlier and really needed to relive it again with someone else, and since I’d just finished your earlier reactions today I was wishing it was you. Then next thing I know you uploaded it!!!! Thank you for that. I didn’t start watching with you until about a month ago or less but I can say that I enjoyed it so much. Your honest and sincere reactions are what kept me coming back. And your sense of humor. I laughed a lot with you and I cried with you. What more can I ask? I’m so happy we got to end this epic journey together. Thank you for all of it. P.S. I like to think of Levi smiling in the end also. Maybe one day he can.

I'm not sure anyone mentioned it yet? But the scene where Armin & Annie were on the boat, was when they were leaving the port after fighting the Jaegerists. When Armin got shot in the head & chest. Eren returned him to that point. But Eren was showing Armin ALL of the things they both wanted to see when they were kids. And Armin realizing he played a role in Eren committing MASS genocide hence why he mentions they'll see each other both in Hell whenever Armin passes. This episode broke me SO mny times.

The Okapi scene always makes me smile.

Another thing you may not notice, the guy speaking in the background from episode 1 was grown up Armin, so Armin did tell everyone about the story, the whole show is just Armin telling this story of aot from his pov

I saw your first reaction to aot and loved your energy. I agree that this was the ending aot needed. This story, from beginning to end, is a study of humanity. It captures the nature of humanity itself being tested by a cruel world with impossible choices. That is what I love about it, and also what I think a lot of people miss the point in.

1:10:36 I don't know if someone explained this but Founder Ymir was finding "they" which is Eren and Mikasa. Eren gave freedom to Ymir and Mikasa showed Ymir what Love was. 1:27:40 In this scene, Founder Ymir was the reason Mikasa had a headache all the time. Founder Ymir used the coordinates to see the memories in Mikasa's head but the Ackermann's ability to resist the Founder Titan happened so she got a headache. In the end, Mikasa was the one who Founder Ymir was waiting for 2000 years so Founder Ymir disappeared once she talked to her.

I cried too man, instead I cried 3 times mostly towards the ending, both a mix of sadness and joy, Sadness for the hard moments and A.O.T finally ending and Joy for looking back on how A.O.T had so much great theories and great ending it had. I personally loved the ending I can't find how people hated it so much.

I cried 7 times mostly when they power of the titans were gone at the endI cried the most I knew I was gonna cry but not as much as I did

Came here immediately after I saw the episode with a bunch of friends on discord myself. I started watching your reactions after watching the show a couple times till season 4 part 2, and I was immediately hooked and became obligated to sit through with you throughout your entire journey of the show. Thank you for your genuine reactions, Luke. It felt like I watched AoT with the perfect friend to watch this show with. It's been a wild ride, and I can't believe it's over man. Let's see where this anime train takes us in the future. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Hopefully there's much more to come.

This has truly been a journey and a half and im glad i found your channel in time to be with you for it. ❤

So the cabin scene with Eren and Mikasa is likely an alternate timeline where Mikasa confesses her love to Eren and they run away together to escape Marley and Paradis. When Eren dies in that timeline, Mikasa says, "I'll see you soon Eren." In chapter one of the manga, we see a short haired Mikasa saying that line. Child Eren wakes up crying and asks why Mikasa's hair grew so long. When Gabi blows Eren's head off, in the montage we see a goth Mikasa and a nerd Armin for a slit second. In the AOT manga, Isayama (AOT creator) added an extra page based on a alternate universe where AOT was in a modern high school setting. Mikasa's Lost Girl's OVA plays with an alternate universe, Isayama you mad man.

someone once said "what matters is not the result ,but the journey you went on for that result". i say "the same goes for life".

What an emotional yet incredible ending! Such a wonderful anime until the end.

I think you summarised why this is the perfect ending amazingly. It shows the cyclical nature of conflict and shows how we as humans are unable to learn from our mistakes and will always without fail have division that one day grow and result in tragedy and as technology advances so does the scale of that tragedy and conflict till it becomes all encompassing. However despite all that, there is still hope for a brighter future. We might not be there to see it but it is still always possible. It may be sad but as a wise man once said "That's life".

What I found very creepy in the ending, is when that boy and his dog enters the tree, if you look very closely on the right hand corner, you can see that weird worm--centipede thing crawling on one of the leaves, the very same thing that connects to the powers of the Titans, meaning that this kid is gonna re-activate the power of the Titans once more as the new Founder. And who knows what the timeline is, it could be centuries after Paradis Island got nuked

Man I watched the Episode myself, then I watched Gigguk's video, then I watched Nicholas Light's reaction and now yours and I cried so many times. I honestly thought this ending was perfect and it was the ending AoT needed. There is no other ending that would fit this masterpiece. I am 100% sure there won't be anything better in my life time (and I'm only 18 now). Which makes me really sad and hollow because I feel like I have seen everything. I'm glad it ended like it did. I was here almost from the start btw. I think I started watching you when you started reacting to NF Edit: Also I think that Eren's sacrifice wasn't for nothing because he achieved what he wanted - A long and peaceful life of his dearest friends. The fact that the war continued after they all passed away is so human. You can even see it in today's modern world where we had so many wars over territory and nationalism and people still don't learn and fight for what they think is best for them and for their country. I feel like war and fighting is in our DNA and there can't be anything that would wipe it out except if the whole planet exploded and no human would survive. Once again I think this is a masterpiece and I think there couldn't have been any better ending to the story of Attack on Titan. thank YOU for giving us this opportunity to follow you on this emotional rollercoaster. we were all here bawling our eyes out with you not only during this episode but the entirety of this emotional rollercoaster of a masterpiece called aot (well at least I sure as hell was, bawling my soul out even). ever since I've watched you react to those openings you've been my go-to react channel, for good reasons. I started watching Attack on titan because of this channel, a year ago. Thank you for introducing me to AOT and it was great to go through the journey with you. Did you know the baby's voice in the baby scene was actually Yuki Kaji's (Eren's voice actor) few-month old child's voice?

I still remmember when I discovered this channel and it was a honor to watch this since the very beginning, it was a very long but beautiful journey. The only way to describe my feeling to the end of this show is "bittersweet", it's like saying farewell to a loved one. It's sad that ended but I'm glad it happened! P.s: I would like to give my respect and love to the fan's that passed away and didn't make it to see this beautiful ending of a story, rest in peace comrades!
