Been to Dubai enroute to and from work numerous times. Didn't lose anything there. Way too hot. Don't go out from about 11 am to 5 pm. Extremely expensive. Typically, unless you have big $, you are treated as 2nd class people. From banks to Grocery stores. Modern day slavery is prevelent. Whole country is a gimmick doomed to failure, in the long term. Nope, did not lose anything there. Don't bother.

Perhaps the world's most spectacular and amusing city but Westerners aren't inclined to patronize any place that subjects women to Islamic oppression. Are there beaches where men and women can intermingle in swimsuits and bikinis? Is alcohol or marijuana permitted? Nightclubs? Dancing? Music? Also, Dubai seems overly expensive. Are there hotels with reasonable prices?

As rich and as showy as Dubai is, I'm surprised (and a little disappointed) that they didn't make the Dubai Metro a monorail system! As a child of the fifties (born in 1948 - under Truman! - illustrations of the near future always featured monorails, moving sidewalks (as if we're not fat enough already!), flying cars and last, but not least, ROCKET PACKS!!! I feel SO ripped off that I will die without ever having a rocket pack....
