Yes! To understand the part, you must understand the whole.
I'm a beginner and I won't to become a better bed bass player so I'm retired I'm 65 years old but Yong at heart I'm also a drummer and I play with a church choir

If you've got rhythm and can sing, you're halfway there. You just have to put in the daily practice. Keep at it!

Yes! And, the common fifth element is timbre. I only highlight these three in the beginning to set up the beginner for understanding the role of the bass. Teaching, to me, is all about knowing what to present and when to present it. And, the beginning is the most sensitive and critical time not to get that wrong.
