The Elements of Music: Harmony (Part 3 of 4) | StudyBass
Музыка
In part 3 of The Elements of Music, we discuss harmony. Harmony is all about how musical notes go together. I'll briefly introduce you to chords, chord tones, chord progressions, scales, and the concept of key.
Harmony is a very big subject, and many people over-complicate it. I know this video is a bit long, but pick up what you can from it. If you don't fully understand everything, don't worry. We'll be visiting these topics individually many times in future bass lessons on StudyBass.

1:34 The more notes in your chords, the less the gig pays - this made me laugh so good
I just can't stop watching. It's amazing how can such complicated things be explained in a way that anybody can understand and remember. It's great that here and there some simple but perfect musical clips or examples are added to anchor the ideas. In fact, they let you be sure of what's been talking about instead of oversaturating you. No excess of movement, sounds, colors, just what is needed. And a real person in a relaxed way using the least technical words. Definitely very thoughtfully created videos. In a month or so I'll have a bass guitar at hand and here is where I'll come back to study. Definitely worth recommending and joining.

I'm very happy to hear this. Thank you. Be sure to follow the lessons on www.studybass.com and not just here. There's much more on the website. Have fun and keep me up-to-date on your progress.
A big thank you from France : your courses are not only usefull for bass players but also for any people who wants to understand better music. A particular thank for your diction that makes a pleasure to listen a lesson not in one's mother language. Bien cordialement !

Thank you for saying this. I try to choose my words very carefully in lessons and videos to make it easier for non-English speakers. Keep learning and making music!
The stack of music theory books I accumulated never explained the simple relationships between combinations of voices and instruments in all forms, not just the 4 pc. ensemble. Thank you for a valuable and easily digestable video series!

Thanks and thanks for your support! I'm building it up for an epic How to Clean Your Fretboard tutorial. :) Really, I dislike brand new strings and put them off for as long as I can. I need to remember to get under there before a video. Keep learning, practicing and making music!
As a non-bass player who came to learn more about music in general, thanks a lot for those clear explanations!

I am glad I found this. Thanks.
Happy I came across your website - but saddened to discover I learned more music theory from your first three videos than i learned in 9 years of piano lessons as a child from the local old lady/piano teacher (Schaum Piano Course) - basically memorized one book of songs per year. But never learned a speck of theory. Began messing with classical guitar last year and just picked up a used bass and instantly fell in love . - I'm 57 btw

Hey Andrew, I am new to your channel. Found some interesting and useful content. Thanks a ton. Could u please make a video consisting technique that how to make wide variety of patterns in 4/4, 6/8 and other time signatures please ? :)
@StudyBass

Thanks and welcome! I have a number of lessons about time signatures planned for the not too distant future. A good thing to do is transcribe songs using particular time signatures and improvise new note patterns using the rhythm patterns found of the song. This can help you build a rhythmic vocabulary. Also, don't be scared to improvise and experiment. Play with a metronome or some drum beats. Keep learning!
