You are the only KZreadr who actually explains things rather than just telling you what filters and other gizmos you should buy to make your tank work. Is there any chance you could do a nano tank eco system only with Japanese rice fish. I have seen them in a number of videos and have fallen in love with them but they all do high tech tanks, often heated, even though rice fish can survive in water that is frozen on the surface. I am hoping to start with an eco tank this year (new year's resolution) only with snails and rice fish in it, possibly shrimp as well, lots of plants and no exterior filters or heaters. Would you ever consider doing a time-lapse or just like, hour long footage of your tanks sitting and existing? I would absolutely adore to use it in the background for when I'm reading or when I leave my cat here on her own, something nice for her to look at. Love your videos! :)

Your work is so inspirational to me!!! I'm upgrading my 65gallon South American tank to a 125g. Right now, I have 10 Colombian tetras, 20 neon tetras, a bristlenose pleco and some amano shrimp. Once i move up, I'll be adding geophagus and Electric Blue Acara. I can't wait!!!

the Bluetooth plug is so darn clever! We've come so far. My family had a gigantic aquarium back in the 90s, it must've been around 2.5 meters long and 0.5 meters deep. Cleaning that thing was an event. Someone had to drag the garden hose to the bathroom and suck the water up, I think I only got one drag of stale and dirty fish water in my career 🤣

My favourite thing of all of your videos is the way you glue plants onto rocks/logs and also using the long tweezers to plant plants in the soil. You make it look so easy.. using fingers to plant used to do my head in. Thank you for your amazing work.

A couple months ago I was sick of buying rams horn snails (because they were not the cheapest) so I thought the best option would be making a breeding tank, and boy o boy did it work! I’m now sitting here knowing that I have thousands of snails that I can put into my aquariums. I haven’t purchased one snail since last year!

Hey MD! Love the tanks and videos, thanks so much! I recently came across under gravel filters, which seem to be ignored in favor of newer forms of filtration; but it seems like this would be really in line with your way of thinking. You don't need to use an airstone, you can just put a power head on the end and filter from the ground up. Beneficial bacteria only work a bit in the soil where there is enough flow of oxygen but deeper in they wont really thrive; this changes entirely with an under gravel filter! Very useful if you do another nano tank video!

Spooky. I was thinking the same. Whatever happened to UG filters? They were “in” several years ago airstone powered then power heads, then reverse flow pushing canister filter discharge right down the uplift tube. No reason why they won’t work fine

@@exmoordogman6558 When I got into aquascaping I didnt see any videos using them and only just recently happened upon them. There are quite a few defense of UG videos out there when you look it up which mention that they are not in the best interest of shops selling equipment; whether that's it or more I am not sure. The downsides of a UG are mainly for people who don't have heavily planted tanks and have fish that completely destroy substrate. Hopefully MD is willing to experiment with it on his next shrimp tank. I am setting up 3 new 30 liter nano's with them to see what they are capable of. 1 of them hooked up to a canister filter as well.

@@andreasboon1 I used to have them , I have bred Discus,Angel fish, Corys, Bettas all with great water quality. The only downside I remember is if you don’t go down the reverse flow canister route , you have to do a lot of gravel cleaning as the particles in the tank get drawn on to the gravel surface and are held there by water flow direction, so no mechanical filtration to speak of.

I love the rasbora you have. It's funny we seem to get a lot of the same fish. I do this before even seeing your videos

And they look great, ecosystem and biotope aquariums are the best and healthiest way to keep fish and its what we should do in the aquarium hobby fish as naturally we can manage.

Awesome looking scape! I really like the branches. The fish are also on my "will have someday" list. How do you find their behaviour in that cube? A lot of people frown upon keeping fish in a 30cm. Do they show any signs of needing more space? Would like to know your thoughts, since I also have a 30cm cube laying around ... :)
