Aquascape Tutorial: Betta Sorority Aquarium (How To: Planted Tank Step By Step Guide)

Aquascape Tutorial: Betta Sorority Aquarium (How To: Planted Tank Step By Step Guide)
I designed this aquarium in my head months ago and finally found the perfect wood centrepiece. I think the layout will work really well for the female betta fish and provide them with tons of territories and places to hide if/when there is any aggression.

I keep a heavily planted betta sorority, I love the girls but they are insane at times. Just some free tips to help things go smooth! A. get some floaters in there, they will actually lay on my frogbit and it did help with the aggression issues I was having. B. DO NOT over feed the girls. I have battled swim bladder issues for my first two months. My issue was overfeeding, I had two girls at the bottom of the tank that wouldn't get much food because they weren't allowed in the top area of the tank. (Hierarchy) C. My girls have eaten just about every cleaning crew we have tried.. The only one who has managed to survive is a Chinese algae eater. They were fine for 4 months then wiped out the snails, shrimp, and Ottos. Seven months in and we finally getting peace in the tank again. Good luck and I look forward to the next video!!

Acers do very badly long-term in heated room indoors. They like being cold at night, especially during winter. The normal practice for bonsai keepers, who often keep acers indoors, is to move them outdoors or put them in a cold place for the winter. If you want red leaves year round maybe go for a calathea, dracaena, croton or caladium.

Awesome tank as always, great scape! I really like it but for what I know bettas need a lid over the aquarium so that they can breathe warm and moist air when they want to. Cold or "dry" air could harm their labirinth. Also some pistia could help providing hiding spots and shading, since it has nice long roots.

I’ve heard that the best way to avoid aggression in a betta sorority tank is to have fish that have been raised together. In the US, at least, there are places where you can order groups of betta females that have grown up together in the same tank sold specifically for sorority tanks. I haven’t tried this, myself, but I’ve heard tanks with sisters do much better than tanks with “strangers”. It makes sense in theory, anyway. Might be something to try. Beautiful scape, by the way!

i had sisters. 5 of them. i had a good year in and they turned on each other, which isn't uncommon from what I've read. it can break at any given point, and mine blew up when my dominant female got dropsy and had to be quarantined. she survived shockingly. i ended up having to separate them all after they brutalized each other and it won't be something i ever try again. lol if you do try it, my advice is to keep a means to separate if they decide they don't want to cohabitate anymore. they're super fun, but the carnage wasn't worth it for me.

I have 6 female bettas in a 10 gallon what you need to do is keeping the aggressors a day or more days away but within the tank in a plastic glass etc and then put them back in it worked for me. Most importantly keep hiding places like live plants or decorations etc.

On another great channel, they suggested (after losing the original sorority) that you try to find a breeder who will ship and get actual sisters. They are having success now with a group of fish that have been together since birth (hatch?). I have no idea how you find one, though. Good luck 🤞🏾.

@@oruwatching if that's so you'll have to tie or stick it fish friendly way cause usually 3rd week is enough for most wood to sink. Dont worry about it floating. Many beautiful aquascapers stock their wood. Just the place where you deal with silicon, also put some rocks to hide it and stick too OR if using thread, grow plant like moss over it
