The East Terminal Railway goes Coast to Coast! And ends up in Fullerton Ca.

Фильм және анимация

ETR Nation, meet at the Fullerton California Train Station March 19th. I'll be there from 9:30 till Noon. Help bring me up to speed on West Coast Railroading. I hope we catch freight, transit and Amtrak, while I answer questions and explain the struggles of reviving an abandoned Railway!

@@eastterminalrailway5975 1. Abandoned Milwaukee Road from Montana State line to Avery, Idaho. This has been made into a rails to trails that uses many high bridges and tunnels on a nice 1.7% downhill grade that you can rent a bike to ride the Hiawatha Trail. The scenery and structures are still worth the visit even though the rails are gone. I know you were recently in Spokane and quite close but you need to see this. BNSF crosses the mountains a few miles north with active railroad. 2. Sand Patch Pennsylvania double track tunnel at the summit of the Alleghenies . The tunnel is 4475' long on 2% grade with no curves. Plenty of helper loco action pushing the trains over the mountain. Not too far south you can visit 17 mile grade west of Cumberland. 3. Detroit, Michigan and Sarnia, Ontario. Rail tunnels under the Detroit River and a new CN tunnel under the St. Clair River. Dearborn Michigan has the Henry Ford Museum which has all kinds of locos and machinery. 4. Raton Pass tunnel at Colorado-New Mexico state line. 5. Donner Pass California-Nevada 6. Hamlet NC - Hub of the Seaboard. Longest tangent track in the US between Hamlet and Wilmington 79 miles. (yes longer than the NYC and Rock Island runner ups.) 7. Railroad bridges over the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. Massive. 8. Boone, Iowa - Kate Shelley Bridge - Former C&NW now Union Pacific rebuilt in 2009. Need to see it to believe it with current 70 mph speed limit on 185' tall bridge. 9. Green Bay Wisconsin National Railroad Museum lots of equipment and you can take the Badger carferry across Lake Michigan while it still runs as the last coal fired steam powered ship on the Great Lakes. 10. Chicago - Center of the World for railroads. Visit the large yards both old and new. Lots of history and live activity. View the bridges over the Cal-Sag canal on the south side. 11. East Terminal Railway See new ways of solving old problems using alternate tools in the pursuit of entertainment videos for railfans. Not open for tours yet.

On the EAST TERMINAL RAILWAY, one of your spurs could be used as a lumber transfer point. You could also use one of the empty buildings for a metal recycling business. Just trying to come up with some business ideas for revenue……. 🤔

Suggestion: as you are going coast-to-coast again sometime, stop in at the Oklahoma Railway Museum in Oklahoma City. We were there recently and they were doing a lot of switching on their not-so-small yard. That was quite fun to watch. They have some nice stock they run, and some static displays of interesting cars. Also, they are doing some additions which I think will include a roundhouse. An interesting place indeed.

Sorry I won’t be able to attend. It’s about 7 hours and 429 miles distant, and I’m too old to drive that far. All my old railroad watching took place at the former Southern Pacific terminal at 3rd & Townsend Sts., San Francisco. Those were the days.

I hope you had or are having a good convention this year Brian. Do not ignore Mrs. East Terminal Rail Road to much at the swap meet. I know we ignored her years ago at New Haven convention. I hope when the fellers get the tour of the museum you see some stuff from your ancestors. I swear the pounded in the golden spike.

Im not going to be able to make that event in Fullerton.. But, if you like Italian food, there is a great restaurant called Angelos and Vinci's Ristorante, about 1/2 mile north of the Fullerton train station, on Harbor, just north of E Chapman. If you have a few days around the area. Take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, from Fullerton to San Diego. It is a great day trip along the Pacific Ocean. And train are very frequent. Im in Oceanside, just north of San Diego. Have a great trip.

Wow, you get around! You have to come to the Philly/NY/NJ area. I grew up there and there are plenty of old historic industrial lines still in use. It would make some great content. There are some places where they still do street running to industries.

As far as I know he is still president of the National Railroad Historical society. He is out their for their Bi annual West coast convention. On the opposite year their national conventions are held on the East Coast. When I was a member I met him and his wife long before Graham at their convention's swap meet in New haven Connecticut. New Haven railroad was the featured railroad that year. Currently Metro Rail, they had a big banquet for all the New Haven alumni. I had two good friends of mine that have since passed on that were their. One was an engineer the other who worked with him was a fireman, brakeman, and conductor. A lot of their rolling stock including a few very rare Baldwin FA-2 shark noses are still in operation on the newly restored Old Colony line. Operated by the Mass Coastal Rail Road group. their just as big as Brian's Ohio central railroad. He has 74 miles of track. Including the East Terminal rail that they just recently obtained. with 3 locomotive engines including the GE-45 6 tonner switcher that they just obtained that is in their videos. If you go to the NRHS website you can find out were the local regional conventions are. Also, when Brian will be attending. You might even check with your local NRHS chapter.
