I've got a few more bamboo videos in me.

Have you ever contacted the guy who made the Hilo/Kona transfer station portable bamboo shelters? It would be cool to see a tour of what he's got going on and his methods of preservation since they've been up since 2009.

If you can use a dye and add it to the boric acid/borax mix, you can see how far it’s penetrated, when treating the culms , standing vertical with all the nodes pierced with a long piece of pointed rebar except for the very bottom one so that you can fill the comb with the borate mix for several weeks, and the dye will show the penetration effectiveness. I’m sure you know about this, although personally, I have not tried using the dye in the live cut soaking method yet. Oh, and a huge Mahalo, for turning me onto Bamboo university in Bali! That money spent was absolutely worth the knowledge gained and just being exposed to the beautiful architecture was incredible in itself. Another bambusero.. in Hakipu’u Oahu.

I always forget about added dye. I did it in one video but it always slips my mind. Glad you liked bamboou. Enjoy building

Is it necessary to use both borax and boric acid? Can only one or the other be used with similar effect?

The combo of them have proven to be effective aginst most of the bugs and diseases that will affect bamboo. Leave one out and you won't have full protection, only partial

apologies for late reply, just wondering if the bamboo would be ok to use with water (for hydroponics potentially,) after the treatment?

Treat with borax/boric acid and should be fine

I just subscribed to your channel. I just purchased bamboo fence and I want to ask you what is the best wood sealer to protect my fance? I used Thompson wood sealer and doesn't absorb.😢

Copper sulfate is expensive though! For a small 4 pound bag can be 36-74 dollars or if you need a lot can be 100$ of dollars

Good point, I prefer boric acid and borax for that reason, but it can still add up

I saw your vidoe which said hot treatmeant with borax needs only 24 hours. Is that true? Is it the fastest method if space is not a concern?

Heat speeds up te process but it’s energy intensive
