The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

Torch! Yup. Have the same thing. A bottom from a Coleman lantern fits those tanks and keeps it standing up much better

I use a piece of scrunched up newspaper , spit on it dip it in the ash and do a quick rub, then place the paper in the fire. It looks sparkling is seconds and no waste or expense !

Works well even with kitchen paper/water and ashes. The old school way was with newspaper. I think there may be a bit of a chemical reaction going on too if you leave the wet ash on for a few moments. I also use a single-sided razor blade for the really stubborn bits.

My husband likes even more power! He uses a "pear burner" to start our woodstove. It uses a regular sized propane tank with a much larger nozzle--used to burn the thorns off cactus so the livestock can eat them!

Even easier - fine steel wool (0000 grade) and....ammonia (I keep mine in a spray bottle)!!! I have tried many tricks and this is BY FAR the easiest so far. NO scrubbing required. 0000 wool will NOT scratch your glass.

Get a bigger box and put the vacuum hose over the edge not all the way down, put the vacuum pretty low or it's exhaust will disturb the flow of ash into the vacuum. That's how i do it, especially when it's cold and it might have a reversed draft into the house... Opening windows will equalise the pressure difference outside and inside to stop the reverse flow.

Don’t let the fire go out ,burn 24/7 in cold WVa . I clean my chimney the first of the month,same time clean the glass ( cheap oven cleaner ) l have a ash scoop with a lid ,can clean out hot or cold , see the smoke come off his shovel onto the room. My wife would make me stand in the corner if I let 💨 smoke in the house . I take the door off to clean the glass . I like the touch,best way to start way better then rubbing sticks together! Stay safe, stay warm!

I sift my ashes with a wire basket to save the chunks. This gives me a nice bed of coals to build my fire with. This also lets me sprinkle the ashes in my garden.

It's a Northstar fireplace made by Heat-N-Glow. It's their high efficiency unit that does an amazing job with heating my home. I love it!

I used PineSol with a soft paper towel. It works but it requires a lot if rubbing - which is why I'm looking for suggestions. So thank you.

The fine ash is somewhat abrasive but I've used it for years and have never noticed any negative effects. Some people say not to use Windex because they're concerned the ammonia will etch the glass but I've never had any issues with it.

@@firewoodforlife I've used straight ammonia and ash for 10 years, and surprised water cleans it too. It takes a bit longer when buildup is thick, but I'm not in a hurry. I won't have to wear gloves using water and ash. THANK YOU for a good video. I also see no negative effects of using slightly abrasive ash on the glass.

I use a Scotch-Brite pad (maroon color) and a damp sponge. Only takes seconds to clean. I use it everyday before I build a fire and it does not scratch the glass.

You have the perfect colour grey on your glass. Most folk are cleaning off BLACK soot which for me, is an indicator of your wood not being seasoned enough, your airflow too reduced and/or, your chimney needs a clean. Interesting that you don't have a metal ash catch box which basically means you have to let your fire go out before you can remove the ashes. How do you control airflow from underneath if you have a solid firebrick bottom hearth?

Very good points about the color of glass. When I clean out my firebox I'lll typically let it burn down to just coals then I'll move all of the coals to one side and clean out the ash. Once that side is done I'll move the coals again and clean out the other side. That leaves me with enough hot coals to restart the fire. My airflow comes from the top of the stove and uses an airwash down the front of the glass which causes a front to back burn.

@@firewoodforlife Well, there is a great topic for a future video as nearly all of the Wood Burning Stoves made here in Bulgaria have a bottom grill in the firebricks and a airflow regulator in the removable ash can catcher door plus of course, the airflow regulator where the exhaust fumes go into the chimney stack. I have another stove where the airflow is controlled above the glass door by two circular regulators albeit, I always assumed that they were there to allow more heat into the room and I don't open them until the fire is well lit otherwise it smokes. It might be that I have missed something important in the usage of that particular stove. .

This is my first year with a stove and I'm getting the black soot on the glass in the morning. I damper it down before I go to bed so I still have some ashes in the morning to get it going again. The ash and paper towel method works when the glass is only a little dirty like in this video but doesn't get through the thick black caked on stuff. What's the best way to get the black soot off

@@DTWCT Elbow grease!. I use a wet worn kitchen sponge, dip the scouring side in wood ash and work it in the most stubborn stains. The scourer is not metal and shouldn't scratch the glass or, it hasn't mine in over 10 years of doing it this way, but I only get stubborn black burned on smoke in the corners of the glass mostly. Other than that, I guess commercial window cleaners, but I don't personally see it working any better than the ash method. Might be easier too if the glass is hot, but not that hot that you're going to burn yourself and be careful applying cold wet sponges to hot glass, it might crack.

I just wanted the peeps to know, PLEASE MENTION the appropriate steel wool to use is the 0000 amazon has a 12 pack for $5.60, or therebout. Great Video, but the more abrasive steel wool can scratch. On the back of the steel wool bag it numbers the ones they sell and what each number cleans, removes, for all kinds of items. I have all the numbers for different uses I love the steel wool. Its the best for glas car scratches will blend buff out. The 0000 is the one to use for that. Thank you.

Thank you for this video. Unfortunately did not work for me. I had to use a razor blade scraper to clean mine. My glass was perfectly clean yesterday and I had a fire running last night. I woke up and the same side that was heavily dirty is dirty again. Any recommendations for cleaning this? It’s darker but I can’t post a photo here

If your glass is getting that dirty overnight I'd say you should burn it a little hotter. That will stop the buildup on the glass from happening. As for removing the really thick buildup, I use a razor blade myself. However, with dry firewood and not dampering the stove completely down at night, I rarely have an issue.

You should have a damper on the stove where it allows you to add more air to the firebox which would allow the fire to burn hotter.

Yes mine has the same thing. It's normal and supposed to be there.

What if you don’t have ash?

I've tired using ash and a damp cloth; and it works - for the smoke film your showing on this video. But... getting the burnt on black creosote off is a whole different animal.

Thank you for the comment and that's true, especially for the stuff that builds up around the outer edge. Once in a great while I'll use a razor blade to remove that really thick stuff, but I've found that 99 percent of the time the ash method will work if I'm burning the fire hot enough.

@@firewoodforlife We haven't had to resort to razor blade - yet. The spray on stuff from Red Devil works if you leave it on for a few minutes before scrubbing. But it's toxic. Same ingredient as Easy Off oven cleaner. Vinegar works pretty well too. Using ashes is great if it works - lot less expensive!

Get a spray bottle of ammonia from the grocery store. When starting a new fire, spray the glass and then wipe clean with newspaper and throw the newspaper in the firebox to start a fire

Log burner

Put your bucket inside, then transfer ash into bucket, will make your room a lot cleaner.

A hot morning fire should burn off a lot of overnight residue, that way you don't have to clean the glass everyday. Dry, seasoned firewood will also make a huge difference. I've found if I damper my stove down too much at night, it makes the glass dirtier than normal.

Correct. In a lot of stoves (especially my stove), reducing the airflow to achieve a longer, overnight burn will cause the fire to leave a lot of dark soot on the glass. So I just stuff it full of wood keep a decent amount of air to achieve a cleaner burn.

This will work on the really dark creosote too. It just takes a little more scrubbing. My stove likes to get the dark buildup around the edge of the glass and this works every time!
