The Dutch Superhighway: Utrecht to Amsterdam - 🇳🇱 Netherlands [4K HDR] Driving Tour

A virtual ride from Utrecht to Amsterdam on the national highway A2 (Utrecht) to the A1 (Amsterdam) and exiting the highway near the city of Naarden. Click here ▶ to see highlights and guide.
(From Wiki):
The A2 highway is a highway in the Netherlands. It is one of the busiest in the Netherlands. The road connects the city of Amsterdam, near the Amstel interchange with the Belgian border, near Maastricht (NL) and Liège (B), and the Belgian A25 road.
The route of the A2 motorway is shared with two major European routes. Between its start, at Amstel Interchange, near Amsterdam, and the Interchange Oudenrijn, near Utrecht, European route E35 follows the A2 motorway. From the Oudenrijn Interchange towards the Belgian border just south of Maastricht, European route E25 follows the route of the A2. Local and express lanes on A2 have different speed limits. The speed limit on express lanes is 120 km/h (75 mph) and locals is 100 km/h (63 mph).

    I drove only once in the Netherlands. A 3 day trip in April 2022. I drove one day in the center of Amsterdam... on KINGS DAY. Seriously... I don't know how to express this in words.. Just that the Dutch know how to design roads. They know how to accommodate many modes of transportation at one time, in many levels of traffic. I've never seen this anywhere else except for in Japan. Even then, I feel the Dutch are superior in this regard. Anyhow, thank you for sharing this video. Respect.

    @@robertson1601 because the road quality is a lot worse, you can immediately notice as soon you cross the border to Belgium. Going from tarmac on to concrete. Honestly the highways going into Belgium has somewhat improved lately, using tarmac instead of concrete. But we the Dutch are spoiled when it comes to infrastructure and road quality, at least our tax money is well spend.

    At this stretch of highway (A2) there is a trajectory speed monitoring (trajectcontrole) between Utrecht and Amsterdam. You can see the cameras at the overhead portals after the black squares signs at every exit and entry of the highway. Your average speed is measured and above 100km (with a margin of 6km I believe) you’ll get a fine. That is if you drive there between 6.00 and 19.00, between 19.00 and 6.00 it is 130km/h. I drive there every work day and I often see cars with foreign number plates speeding and only braking at the overhead portals because they see the cameras. But that doesn’t have an effect, because your speed isn’t measured at that point only. I often laugh when I see the break lights. Driving in The Netherlands means no speeding. There are cameras and laser guns everywhere and the fines are high, especially when there are road constructions with lower speed limits. And the government collecting office will find every speeding drivers in the whole of Europe. It’s a very efficient organization.

    Everything you said is true but fines are not that bad, I’m from Portugal and living in the Netherlands, I realize most fines are the same or smaller here than in Portugal. An easy example is that while you will pay under 500€ maximum for a speeding fine in the Netherlands, in Portugal this can be up 2500€. Of course not everyone caught will get this huge fine but the police can do it if they think it’s reasonable. So I would say Dutch fines are low, specially if you compare the different country wages

  • @RealConstructor

    @RealConstructor

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ricardo_boutique In 2021 you only pay under €500, €435 to be precise, if you stay below 39km too fast on highways. That is the highest immediate fine. But be careful: above that, so from 40 km too fast on highways, your case goes to the district attorney’s office, and your drivers license will be confiscated by the police and you get it back only after the DA gives permission to release it. This could take up to three or four weeks, in the meantime you are not allowed to drive a car under any circumstances. Your punishment for driving too fast could be a very high fine, jail sentence or community service, and you will have a criminal record, thanks to speeding. And alongside road works the limit is 30km too fast on highways and an immediate fine of €383. The fines and limits vary on other roads outside and inside buildup areas and alongside road works or not.

    2 years late, but the double white lines right next to the car are to prevent cars from swerving into the other lane. It basicly acts as a thick line so cars will drive more on the middle of their lane (mostlikely cause the bridge is not that wide). Same for the lines in the middle of the bridge.

    I hate these fuckers! Here in the Netherlands, there are many people driving on the left lane, while it's possible to drive on the right lane. Especially when highways have more than two lanes. Most of them never heard of flow of traffic. The others I dislike, are the ones who don't use signal lights.

    traject speed monitoring or trajectcontrole is working, wish they would role it out over the hole country. it gives a nice peaceful and relaxed way to drive and speeding is for the stupid anyway. But beside that I see way to many cars that do not follow the trafic rules. To many cars stay on the left lane far to long, also the driver of this cam car. and it seems that direction signals are out nowadays, car just change direction without using it. Big fines on both issues if the police would only do ther job.
