Dragonball Z online was an MMORPG released in Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Unfortunately in 2013 the game was shut down, however an ambitious group of dedicated fans worked on a project known as DBOG Dragon Ball Online Global, a private server which allows people to enjoy this once forsaken but cherished MMO.

Thanks for the support and reviewing DBOG! We're working (slowly) on the translations and a new client that will allow us to fix the inventory issues. We've got the game about 2/3 translated at this point, but it's a slow process. We're projecting the new client being ready sometime this year, so that should allow us to help with inventory issues. Have fun playing everyone!

As someone who comes from Ragnarok Online, a similar MMO with player-character manned stores, the reason for the shops/storefronts is for multiple reasons: Mainly it's to make the game feel livelier. Text on a screen in an auction house makes people feel less connected with each other, especially in a private server. With players putting up storefronts, people actually come visit these towns often to check stores and prices not found in the auction house. They can put a (player) name to a product at a particular price point and has a more feeling of reliability of that player selling those particular products consistently at reasonable price points. It's a good way to encourage a player driven economy and competition... A game designer friend had told me this once: A game with fast-travel teleports everywhere and infinite player convenience ensures that your players will never meet each other outside in the wild. The game will feel dead, players only going to the "best" leveling spots and the singular player hub that all that convenience is located. A designer should always find ways to incentivize players to explore the world you painstakingly crafted detail into instead of skipping it.

That is one of the reasons i loved SWG. Imagine a world you had to go to the cantina and get buffs from Dancers and then go get buffs from Doctors. Apart from that you have player controlled cities and if you needed special goods like some good armour you could always go to your favorite player owned shop. Now everything is streamlined and always in theme park mode so you have no need to even interact with anyone. P.S: Former IRO player her as well,favorite chars were my GC Sader and GF Monk ;)

I always enjoy seeing videos of people finding this game. I played it quite a bit back when it was first released and I have kept coming back every now and again to these amazing private servers. The fact that the game world and it's inhabitants is based more on "Dragon Ball" than "Dragon Ball Z" is really cool in my opinion.

Install is super easy, if your a dragonball fan absolutely give it a try. It's definitely not going to hold up very well if you compare it to some modern day MMORPGs but if you want a nostalgic and oldschool experience in a pretty unique world, it's definitely worth a shot.
4:15 Just thought I'd mention a little correction. It's not only Dogi and weapons that changes your appearance. Every clothing item changes how you look in the game, it's just that dogis are the only outfits that don't change your stats. I thought I'd mention this because that's something I find really cool about the game. I really hate when clothing items don't change your appearance in games, so it's a really nice touch and adds a really cool way to make your character unique. Other than that, It's a cool video! :D
Broke my heart❤❤❤❤❤ so amazing. I will be trying this out and sent your video already to several groups I am in!!! I never knew this existed! Cannot wait to start my journey
This game was a topic in our local MMO community when MMO was still very popular. I remember it started with clips here on YT some even said it isn't true until a non English version was released years after. Sadly, it never had any official English version. It's nice to know that there are dedicated people running the game and translating its contents.
The player shop brought me back memories of Perfect World. Alot of times the auction house had taxes or extra things to deal with and player shops didnt
@stevenyee1055
25 күн бұрын
In some korean mmos back in 2010s, pending on the tax, if you're selling an item thats expensive and high on demand, the revenue cuts deep. Sometimes players will shout a "WTS" mesage on the world server to start a bid or trade for something of equal value. Players strapped on money would find a hotspot and start a shop there.
@Chisien
24 күн бұрын
@stevenyee1055 OH god I remember world chat being full of WTB: [insert valuable item here] or WTS; ALL THE TIME
When a game has both an auction house and player store, there are usually several advantages and disadvantages of both. Back in Final Fantasy XI travel could take 15-120 minutes depending on location with no teleports (typically reserved for only a couple of jobs). So setting up a shop in the middle of no where (or a popular grind area or outpost) saves people time. Though there was also the fact that auction houses in town charged 10% tax on each purchased item. This created the existence of player malls outside of main towns with auction houses that bypassed the tax. The downside was that there was no search function and you had to go to known shops that had what you want (or named their alt mall character) or just window shop. In addition, the auction house itself had a limit of only allowing 7 items to be sold at a time (and each city had its own auction house independent of the others so you could do a literal trade route to and from since they were quite a distance away from each other even by airship if you managed to get a pass).

oh man. I remember downloading the original game as a kid with an english patch and getting stuck somewhere around level 8. glad to see that unlocking flying is as cool as 12 year old me would've hoped it was.
I’ll never forget when I used to play a game called dungeon fighter online that shut down in 2009 but is officially back. My experience was so wholesome when I reached lvl 15 and chose my offical class. I had a party invite me to a dungeon I happened to be doing as well and there were 4 of us. 3 characters the same level as me (21)-22 and a high level awakened guy level 47 doing free runs for us. He helped us all level to 35 and ran us through the dungeons we needed. He was patient when we needed to go to the venders to sell and buy items for quests. I’ll never forget that day. We stayed friends and I even caught up to him in level and surpassed him with my main character and returned the favor when he needed help. We even started duoing epic dungeons together and even got legendary items. Sometimes in that game when a legendary or epic item drops, a dice roll happens so not all the time you’ll get the item even if it’s for your specific class so we would drop the item if our character won the dice roll for a class specific item that one of us needed. Good times good times.
Played in the Korean server back in the day, this game was the peak for me in terms of chilling around with your friends online and meeting new people, this community was something else, had a sword class and a crane. I really lost something when they shut down the servers. Good memories

Love the concept. You could make a puzzle to get each rare starter. There could be hints around to solve it. One could be to get to an area within 1 minute, missing this window may lock you out of getting it but there is a chance to return later in the game to capture it again maybe with better stats or with a special move.

He keeps like Gi like Jee and my brain is blowing up
So this "becoming a store" feature, I've seen this feature once before in an MMO called Rohan: Blood Feud. The combat animation for that game is among the best I've seen in an MMO. The leveling is a bit broken however as you can buy gear of just about any level and go talk to someone to reduce the level requirement. Doing so is RNG-based though and it costs in-game currency. So if your luck is bad, you'll go through all your money. Edit: I've seen an MMO use a PvP arena as well, known as KalOnline. That one has several different versions if I recall. In that game, there were two ways to enter PvP. 1: The arena in the map's capital. 2: Wearing an assassin mask or something. That makes it where you can attack any player anywhere and they can attack you. You can't just toggle it all willy-nilly though, so you need to be careful about wearing that. Anyway, I might give this MMO a shot.
I actually do remember this game. It was waaaay back when I was in high school and have looooong forgotten about it, but always wished it gotten better instead of being forgotten altogether. Sucha shame, but am happy theres still some small developers keeping it breathing

It depends if people show enough interest and want to see what the endgame looks like, that's definitely something I'm inclined to document :)
I actually played the Taiwan version of DBO and since I only know how to read and speak English installing it was a fun challenge. The idea of a DBZ mmo was exciting at the time so I spent like 9 hours trying to get it downloaded and installed so I could play. We had separate English patches made by the players/community of the game back then which didn't translate nearly as much as the private servers and took a bit of time to find out how to install them correctly. After the servers shutdown I believe DBO Global or DBOG was the first private server to actually come out but there is more than one private server for DBO out there now and all of them have slight differences. I was heartbroken when this game was officially shutdown, it was a adventure and a lot of that adventure I was going in blind cause a lot of the later game outside the starting areas was not translated. Watching your video makes me wanna jump back into this game again. Since most in the US didn't even know this game existed they just ripped all the great elements of DBO and made those crappy Xenoverse games. Remember, DBO is the original Xenoverse and is superior to it in every way. Probably the most successful mmo based off a anime we have ever seen.
The 2 characters in the cutscenes are probably the coolest Dragon Ball characters I've seen. They look awesome.
Very interested in seeing this games endgame! I am not a fan of DB, sacrilege I know, but DBO seems very interesting. The playerbase still seems relatively active and overall I am impressed with the systems. The store transmog takes bankstanding to a whole new level x'D - Great vid dotman!
I remember having to go through several crazy steps to get an account created for it because the portal was all in Korean. IIRC it was easier to set it up with the Hong Kong release. It's cool that there's a revival for it though!
I remember reading about dragon Ball online years ago and waiting for the English release for it never to come . Cool to hear that it's still out there !
Abit late but fun fact that gift box is actually a new feature, added via the adventure pass april fools update this year. Adventure pass actually stayed after the april fools update funnily enough.

Xenoverse took alot of things from this game such as outfits and you can see it slightly in the create a character as well some of story.

I used to play this game live even if I did not understand the text. I remember that there was an event that gave items that gave you xp and quite a bit of xp for new characters. Thing was that they forgot to make those items non tradeable so I just spent a day creating new characters transferring the item to my main character and deleting the new character, repeat again and again and getting more and more xp items. When the event ended I had a massive stockpile of them and I used them to level up a bunch of characters a lot and to sell a lot more in the auction house. With that money I was able to purchase from the AH a lot of paid items, among them like 3 maid dresses which I used as cosmetic for my characters. I always loved the concept of a female fighter dressed as a maid and beating opponents, I roleplayed that I was cleaning up "trash"

Typically there's restrictions on what can go on a player shop and what can go on the auction house. and in some games, you can get "permission" to sell untradeables on your player shops
