I recently saw a video of where someone recounted the spirit of a quote from Martin Luther King that people should be judged by the content of their character as opposed to their appearance. Which is something I always believed in. And it just made me realise something. Whenever Doctor Who does a post regeneration story like Power of the Daleks or Christmas Invasion for example, it always asks the same the question "Is this new person still the Doctor?" And it always answers the question that even though the Doctor has changed in their appearance, they're still the same person at their core! They're still the Doctor! Even when the Doctor regenerated into a woman, Jodie proved that the Doctor was still the same person even though their gender had changed. That has always been at the heart of each Post Regen Story. So to have a Post Regen story like The Star Beast where the Doctor themselves is asking that question themselves, they would bring that message home that The Doctor is still the Doctor! And you have Rose questioning her identity as well (which I think that was meant to be her arc in this story from what I understand). So another reason to reinforce that message. Whatever someone is Male, Female, Trans, disabled, short, tall, dark skin, light skin, human, alien and etc, at the end of the day what makes each person them is the content of their character. No matter who the Doctor turns into, he's still the same person who became who is through his experience travelling the universe with people like Donna. His story may not have a happy beginning but he became his own person through his own actions the minute he nicked the TARDIS and ran away. Regardless of whatever gender Rose is, she still the same person at her core. Her passions and desires, her connections with family and friends, her history and etc. I feel like that should have been at the heart of the Star Beast in regards with characters like Rose and the Doctor. That's what has always been at the heart of any Post Regeneration Story that anyone can connect with. The content of your character is what makes you you! And even though he changes his appearance, the Doctor is still the Doctor and hasn't gone anywhere. So yeah, that's my feeling in regards to this story. Perfect opportunity to reinforce that core message, especially when you have more than one character questioning who they are in this story. An opening for a connection between the Doctor and Rose Noble. And instead, that window of opportunity is missed. Instead, it feels like we have the Doctor being told off for being a male presenting Human and the constant reiteration of the fact Rose is trans and the audience should accept that fact even though they already have at the start. I hope what I'm saying makes sense.

Undoing Donna’s tragedy was a mistake.

6:14 I think Doctor always adjusts for the planet and time they’re currently in. That’s why he said “oh good point”. Not because he doesn’t know about pronouns but because he forgot that Earth is ready for that kind of conversation.

An example of lazy writing, I was hoping the show would get away from, is using Sonic Screwdriver as a plot device, just to move the story forward. But then we see it can now make laser shields. You'd think something with "sonic" in it's name it shouldn't do that. might as well call it the light screwdriver or the "Lazywriters screwdriver" lol. To me, the plot is very reminiscent to ep1 series 3 with the Judoon and the Granny Plasmavore twist, very unoriginal. I was hoping for the special to bring us some new "special" storytelling.

I kind of agree, though I did love them bringing back. I actually really liked the second episode though, it was fun and the sort of weird & surreal that I adore about the show. It reminded me of the sort of story Big Finish would have written, and I mean that in a really positive way.

To each their own 🤗 I, for one, was happy the storytelling made sense again. It's been bothering me since Moffat was showrunner - everything always has to be bigger and better, but at some point going bigger just makes it worse. I'm not saying I hated Moffat and Chibnall, they had good stories, but the overarching plotline was too grand or didn't make sense. I like that we're back to storytelling with a proper beginning, middle and end again.
