The man that stops the monsters. I was skeptical about Capaldi’s Doctor at first, especially after what he did in Kill the Moon. But that scene at the end of Flatline really hit home for me. To me, that was the moment that proved he was still Doctor. My love for his incarnation only grew from there, and now Capaldi is my absolute favorite incarnation.

The writers knew he was so good with monologues, they gave him a whole episode where only he talks, Heaven Sent. Another time Capaldi proves to be an amazing actor

Me and my cousin ranked every episode of new who and heaven sent turned out to be the best episode ever it’s rough it messes with your head when you watch it and after your done with it your shocked that that actually happened in your goofy si-fi show but no one can deny it is beautifully written and acted out

Is like, if you show someone a common funny clip from an 11th doctor eposode and then you show them the 12th doctor crawling and dragging himself to the teleport in that episode (heaven sent), i wonder if they would be able to tell that those clips are from the same show. I love that thos show can be both a funny and axciting adventure for the docor and an absolute hell.

I'm with you; Capaldi is my favorite Doctor of the new era. He's a brilliant actor, and he gives the Doctor grumpiness, humor, sensitivity, pain/loss and passion all at once. I think he's actually the most emotionally rounded of all the Doctors, old and new.

Beautifully articulated. I don't know why as they are quite different but after Capaldi I tend to like Smith. For some reason the beloved David Tennant has worn a bit thin for me over the last few years. What I once saw as fun and energetic Tennant now makes me feel tired. I think what 11 and 12 share is a complete selflessness whereas 10 was rather self-absorbed. Capaldi for me though was the Doctor for adults. I loved his portrayal. No other Doctor carried the same weight and depth of characterisation that this brilliant actor brought to our hero. I will now add what I just removed having watched the rest of your video. Why Smith as my second favourite? Because both 11 and 12 were selfless. They put everyone before themselves whereas Tennants 'I don't want to go ' and The Timelord Victorious stuff I didn't care for as much. It seems strange that I am complaining about Tennant because I still think he was a delight. It's just that the next and following was even better. I was saddened that the ratings dropped when Peter Capaldi took the role because I believed then and still today that this was primarily due to viewers having become increasingly shallow over the years. The masses wanted young, good looking goofballs they could cosplay and feel cool about. Capaldi was bringing DW back to where such superficial traits were not sought after. Character mattered, not the superficial but the essence of a great, flawed and achingly kind thoughtful individual. We live in an age of crap reality T.V. of the very lowest level. In fact most is highly immoral. Soapies have become increasingly more soft porn for teens. You are so right Capaldi had complete love and care for others. Those viewers inability to stick with this Doctor and fail to realise how powerful his hearts were leaves me feeling rather sad. We need more Capaldi's and Claras in this modern world. Leave the Kardashin crap behind and engage in the beauty of deeper attributes; attributes Capaldi displayed spades of. On a side note Steven Moffatt having written those speeches in his scripts makes any misjudgements in his era completely excusable. Moffatt could bring more love and humanity to out Timelord than people realised. When coupled with Capaldi the combination was phenomenal.

@@triplejazzmusicisall1883 I wouldn't be swift to throw off the stone at the Tenth Doctor, for as he contributed to make of the Eleventh and Twelth Doctors who they were: there Eleventh hides his agony and selflessness behind a veil of goofiness, and where Twelth the seen of ages and pain through a tough exterior, Tenth just has it. Think about it for a moment: the Dcotor who once rejected his identiry in the fire of war, the Doctor whk has to live up with the anger and frustration of whathe has done had finally found love again. He went manic: he wanted to feel loved again. Not just by Rose only but by the ones he loves and the ones he does love. To the vacuum of hopelessness he had to mute himself in, comes a flood of too-human emotions. The Tenth incarnation of the Doctor was the most human of his incarnations (even much so than the almost manic Fifth Doctor, and sensitive-turned-melancholic Gothic Eighth Doctor) , a curse that no Time Lord shall ever mirror again. Love bring our darker side. But love does also brings hope! Tenth Doctor has to learn how to become more selfless again, which he did marvelously. This is why I, confidently so, forbid you to speak ill of Tennant's run or Time Lord Victorious ever again.

@@ptolemeeselenion1542 Ouch. I never stated I didn't like Ten. Every Doctor Who fan has their favourites and each likes different aspects and is less fond of other attributes of every incarnation. It really is no big deal. I share many of your opinions on 10 and as an actor I think David Tennant is brilliant. He would be in my top 5. Like music we all like different things. Cheers.

I really warmed to Capaldi, but in a way I like the David and Matt doctors slightly more. Perhaps the more naturally jokey attitude made those serious scenes they had just seem that little bit more impactful. A lot depends on the material as well, I feel the Rings of Akhaten and the Van Gogh episodes that Matt Smith got were amazingly powerful, for me more so than this one, but I guess everyone has their own favorites.

Can we just acknowledge Jenna Coleman's acting as Bonnie in this scene too? Even though she doesn't say much she manages to convey an awful lot while remaining to appear steadfast and resolute

Jenna Coleman really did great in this scene too. You can always see the uncertainty of Bonny behind the eyes and the way her point of view slowly cracks until it shatters.

Capaldi felt like the full stop to the Time War arc. You see the combination of his hope, his rage, his experience make a man who has made sense of it all and has a mission. "Not on our watch."

By the end of his run, Capaldi actually replaced Tom Baker as my favorite Doctor. Both share an otherworldliness about them, especially in their manic smiles, that just nails the character for me.

I really found Capaldi to be quite similar to Baker in a lot of his mannerisms. Looked like Pertwee, acted like Baker, I suppose that was his era of Who as a child! He was a great doctor.

This scene and the entire Heaven Sent episode is by far his finest work. The fact that he could carry an entire episode by himself and that it was a defining episode for the entire series says it all.

Capaldi remains my favorite Doctor; a grumpy Scotsman who had to put aside the romance of the previous three Doctors and get back to business ("I'm not your boyfriend"). He and Jenna Coleman were magic. But I'll put the entirety of "Heaven Sent" up against most anything. For pure acting, Capaldi's tour-de-force may be the single best episode of either era.

I think 12 and Clara was a much better mix than 11 and Clara The relationship was so much more mature and they bounced off each other in a vastly different way that I loved

I absolutely love Capaldi as the Doctor. Much as I adore Tennant and Smith, Capaldi's doctor is finally a grown up and perfectly portrays the disappointed optimist, while fed up and weary he still strives to go again one more time because of who he is and how much he cares. It's so relatable.

Clearly one of the best scenes in the history of Who. Maybe one of the best scenes in the history of television. Peter very quickly became my favourite incarnation of The Doctor, and this scene just cemented it.

The thing about 12, and particularly this scene, that makes him my favorite: He is a culmination of ever doctor, in the most full and literal sense. He reminds me so much of 9, 10, and 11 but all at once. Not "oh this from 9 here, this from 10 there" yada yada, its all of them put together equally. The sorrow, and rage, and PTSD, and determination, and willingness to be absurd to prove a point. Hes the doctor, but the most doctor that the doctor has ever been. Just a very old, very tired, very done with BS Doctor. But still as loving and kind at the same time. 12 is such a powerful man, through all of his lifetimes have built him and strengthened him, to be the most complete being to exist.

Twelve is the best taking on a difficult role after Smith and Tennant who were both great in their own ways. Capaldi had the advantage with the fact he could do these wonderful speeches. Even the general in hell bent said ‘words are his weapons’ and boy can he use them in this regeneration. Thanks for a great summary of this great piece.

I love Capaldi's Doctor, my favorite quote ever is "Human progress isn’t measured by industry. It’s measured by the value you place on a life. An unimportant life. A life without privilege. The boy who died on the river, that boy’s value is your value. That’s what defines an age, that’s… what defines a species."

Yes! Capaldi was brilliant as the Doctor. My Doctor for sure. I'll always remember that fisrt scene with him "no sir, all Thirteen". Iconic

No one could do this scene other than Peter Capaldi. It was written for him, and only he was going to carry this. It infuriates me that there are toxic simps out there who claim that Capaldi's not as good an ACTOR as Matt Smith or David Tennant, and that's what separates them from real fans. Capaldi is an incredible actor who never took any of his clothes off on the show and carried this show on his talented acting.

Capaldi's Doctor is my personal favorite. His interaction with Missy was some of the best acting in the entire series. He's not for stupid people. He speaks in a very complex and layered way. His ability to shift into so many emotions and his monologue were *chef's kiss*.

Capaldi is my favourite doctor too. He had a great arc over 3 seasons and he seems like such a friendly person in real life too. That said I wouldn’t say his speech in the zygon inversion is his best scene. I would say my favourite and his greatest scene comes at the end of series 8 with capaldi saying nothing at all. The moment when goes where missy told him Galifrey would be, only to open the door and see only empty space. We see capaldi slowly walk back to the console, and this man who throughout series 8 has remain cold, somewhat distant and mysterious, breaks down. I love that scene to bits.

I can attest to him being friendly in person. Met him at a convention and he complemented my 10th Doctor cosplay completely unprovoked. He was very kind and genuinely enjoyable to be around!

I love Capaldi, and the longer he was on screen, the more I loved him.

and whats even more remarkable he did this in ONE TAKE, word perfect first time, and got a standing ovation for it!!!!!

Capaldi's performance is incredible but Jenna Coleman is also great in it. You have a very different acting to make Clara and Clara Z different, but you can also see how Clara Z (or Bonnie) is changing. You see her pride and confidence melting as the Doctor deliver the speech. I believe the alchemy between the two actors is making this scene memorable and one of the best.

This is the best war speech from anything ever.

Same Capaldi is my favourite he feels like THE Doctor to me the truest version of the character and I see old incarnations in him while also new things I really loved this era and it’s a shame he is only getting his flowers now and not while it was airing

1. Capaldi is brilliant, and I can't believe I will ever admire another doctor so much. 2. This scene is outstanding in every way. It grabs you by the heart and won't let go. 3. But "Heaven Sent" is still (IMHO) the best of episode of Doctor Who, ever, bar none.

Personally, it's my fourth favourite story, just behind World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls, The Waters of Mars, and Genesis of the Daleks. Still, 4th place out of 60 years of TV certainly isn't half bad

At first when I saw Peters run in Doctor Who I thought we lost the doctor because he was old and not that childish fun 11th doctor we had before. but after watching him again he is one of my favorite Doctors because of the speeches he makes and how he uses words to change someone and others. Yes he was different but in a good way and just shows how this Doctor and this one alone is one of the best.

I am so glad that this is also your favourite Capaldi Moment. It was sooo touching. Not only was it the moment the 12th Doctor reveals his own kindness. But also this scene transcended Television. You can feel Peter Capaldi's passionate concern that rings true on all levels of fiction AND reality.

He’s shamelessly my favorite Doctor regardless of anything. He brought the old and modern vibe to the series and sealed my love for the show with his hard headed, crazy loving incarnation of this awesome dude.

I totally agree with you! I too love Capaldi and he is my favorite Doctor. He just is such a total doctor with so many facets to the character! He just IS the doctor to me. Never get tired of watching his episodes cuz every watch solidifies his incarnation as my doctor!

Another thing that's great about this scene is the way it builds on 12's character. This episode being a direct sequel to Day of the Doctor is no accident, because it addresses the growth he's gone through since then. In a lot of ways, Day of the Doctor was a finale for Nu Who up to that point because it finally tackled The Doctor's relationship with this big, mysterious event (The Time War) that in some way drove every new incarnation of the character. Within the special itself, too, we label 10 and 11 "the one who regrets" and "the one who forgets" and because they solve their issues with the time war, what relationship will this new Doctor have with this event? This scene answers that question. This Doctor has come to terms with the fact that despite saving Gallifrey, he still lived through the horrible things he had to do during the Time War. This is a version of The Doctor that OWNS his relationship with the Time War. He's accepted his role in it, and he is using that experience to prevent anyone from following that path. It's really satisfying to see him try to teach in this way, and I feel like this is the first time we really see him use the Time War itself as a way to solve a problem. Capaldi does a really good job at this, and I still love his casting. His older, more wizened looking Doctor creates the perfect epilogue to Series 1-7's Doctors. He's stopped trying to look young and hip- he doesn't have to any more because he doesn't have to deny himself any more. It works on several levels and only backs up why Capaldi is so great as The Doctor. I was hoping he'd stick around longer, really. I felt like he brought something new to the modern era, and it was something very deserved and fitting for the character too.

Nobody ever mentions his speech outside the Tardis to Bill And Nardohl before his regeneration inside the Tardis. It is stunning. Well written and delivered by a master actor. Stunning, stunning, stunning. So, so beautiful and moving. Makes Jodie Whitaker look like a 4th form school play. miss him so much. Not only a great Doctor, but one of the great Doctors.

I think Capaldi will be remembered as one of, if not the best doctor

While some episode might be weaker than other doctors he is my favorite doctor. His old angry man look plus charismatic speeches definitely worth to watch. Also Heaven Sent was one of the best doctor who episode for me.

Capaldi is my favorite. The 12th Doctor makes you feel like you are getting glimpses of the core of the Doctor behind the masks he has been wearing for a long time.

Capaldi is my favorite Doctor of New Who. And this exact scene is one of the reasons why. A couple of things you didn't mention in this scene, is that is done almost entirely without background music. All the emotions are brought by Capaldi's acting. Only at the end they put some music, but before that, it's all Capaldi's speech. Other thing that I think makes this scene great is when The Doctor says "here is the unforeseen. I forgive you!" Steven Moffat has said about Doctor Who, that he is the perfect super-hero, because he doesn't carry a weapon to kill, he carries a screw driver to fix things. He doesn't have side kicks, he have companions. He doesn't care with one heart, but with two. In this scene, it is almost like he has added one super power to his arsenal, the power of forgiveness. Bonny thinks they will never forgive her, she thinks her options are fighting or being prosecuted. The Doctor tells her she can walk away, she has been forgiven.

He had the best speeches of any doctor, his lines when he realised why he chose his face and his speech in the Zygon episodes are just incredible.

I genuinely cried during this scene and it still does to this day 😭

I 100% agree with you in the video about Capaldi's performance it is definitely a highlight and if you've ever seen Netflix's Daredevil with Charlie Cox I think hes probably one of the best actors that I could put side-by-side with him especially the season 3 finale against Fisk and his whole hero monalogue/speech gives me chills every time, I really really want you to tackle this scene. I know other popular KZread channels have done videos on the show but they haven't ever really gotten to indepth for specific scenes.

Before the boys, that was my standard that every superhero movie or show had to be at to compete. I'm fine with them not being able to be as dark, bloody, and adult. But remove the blood from that scene. That is the quality level of writing and acting Born Again I'd love for it to deliver. My expectations while I am thrilled to see Cox back, I will take what I can get with him in the role and understand it needed to happen that way for legal reasons. It's just really hard not to wonder what a true season 4 would have been like considering the cliffhanger and plans the writers had.

I don't do rankings but when Capaldi was given the material he deserved he gave us a Doctor better than I could have hoped for.

Capaldi became my favorite Doctor when I binged his run. The writing for his episodes might have fluctuated, but Peter Capaldi always delivered an amazing performance.

What an Amazing tribute to one of the best Doctor's we have seen in years. This specific Capaldi moment is the one scene I will argue over any fan who dares criticise Capaldi's Tenure as the Doctor. I knew it was special when I first saw it a few years ago now. It is still one of the most defining moments of the Modern Doctor Who era.

Totally agree with - twelve is always the first person I think of when I think of the doctor. He's amazing and such an amazing actor.

Excellent sum-up ... the era was plagued with uneven writing, character development, and production value but Capaldi was always magnificent!

Every once in a while a movie will come along, and an actor will stand out to me, and I'll remember their name. Peter Capaldi was such an actor... and then I forgot it. The movie was "Local Hero" (1983). And decades later I was thrilled when I saw him in Doctor Who ("The Fires of Pompeii" 2008). And then he became a great (I think) Doctor. Thank you so very much for the video. I've been a big fan of the Doctor since I was a young Californian who started school in England in the 60s. My first Doctor was William Hartnell, but my favorite is Jon Pertwee. But I don't think there are any "bad Doctors" (well... the Valeyard, kind-of), I think they're all part of a composite that makes up the whole, and I appreciate them all and the actors and writers behind them.

@@manjackson2772 nah I thought they were all rlly good mainly. Better than most other seasons with other doctors I’d say. Except for maybe series 4 and 5. I thought deep breath is one of the best ever series openers. I think face the raven is absolutely amazing. Heaven sent is amazing. Mummy on the orient express is amazing. Flatline is amazing. The Robin Hood episode is so much fun and examines the Doctor as a hero, Gatis’s best. Listen is one of my favourite episodes ever. Dark water and death in heaven I thought were absolute great. I even enjoy kill the moon for the most part cuz of the examination of the Clara and Doctor relationship. The Before the flood 2 parter is amazing and very well written. The Witch’s familiar 2 parter I’d say is fun but not perfect but has very good moments. I think some of the Ashilda bits r fun episodes in a comedic way and the Zygon/unit 2 parter is fantastic. I’m not a big fan of Hell Bent but it’s opening is good and it has its moments. Then Sleep no more is ambitious but boring, into the Dalek is fun, the caretaker is fun and in the forest of the night is absolute shit.

Only disagree on Kill the Moon (didn't like that at all, the Doctor swanning off and leaving Clara and the idiot child to sort things out, and too many physical impossibilities, the only really good bit was the furious confrontation between Clara and the Doc at the end); but Hell Bent which is one of the best eps ever, the scene in the diner where *one* of them has had a memory wipe but we don't know which one until the reveal; and the Doc's confrontations with the Time Lords - an absolute joy to watch. I'm just rambling now...

God this is really is Capaldi's best scene, I love this he's just brilliant

My favorite Classic Who is Tom Baker. He was my first Doctor. My favorite New Who is David Tennant. He encapsulated the old pantaloon and the young wide eyed child in the same gaze at the camera. With that said, Capaldi transcends "favorite" because he's more than any of the other actors who have performed The Doctor. He's been a fan since he was a child. He had a Doctor Who Fan Club. He wrote to the BBC. He became an actor partly because of the series. He's not just a Classic Doctor or a New Doctor. Capaldi is one of us. He's OUR Doctor. He's what we fans would hope we could do if given the chance to play let's pretend and perform The Doctor on a screen or a stage. Just once. We'd hope we'd get it that accurate. We hope we'd be that good at it. That capable. That crotchety. That lovable. Capaldi got the chance we all wish we could get, and he set all the amps to eleven. He blew the roof off the place. From Clara's first hug to River's last kiss. Capaldi is the rock star legend Doctor, and no one can take that from him. No one. Ever.

I loved Peter Capaldi’s Doctor from start to finish. Also, I think Jenna Coleman brought unbelievable talent to the screen and her acting is often overlooked and under appreciated. I’m so glad they convinced her to stay on.

By far my fav NuWho Doctor. Capaldi was absolutely brilliant.

We had 3 young dr's, so when Peter popped up i was a little dissapointed, never the less , i watched, and fell in love with The Doctor, what an actor, Peter was everything The Doctor should be, i was mesmerized. Not many actors can carry a whole episode alone, but Peter was magnificent when he was in prison, doing the same thing over and over, i was blown away. Peter Capaldi was everything Doctor Who should be, i just loved him. Plus he was also very elegant, and handsome. Congratulations Peter, I have watched Doctor Who since the very first episode , and i believe he was the very best doctor yet.

While Matt Smith was my favorite and I was saddened to see him go, I wholly embraced the next Doctor and the refreshing, new, and interesting characterization he brought to the table. This episode in particular moved me to tears, along with Heaven Sent and Hell Bent. Capaldi is such a brilliant actor and that more than makes up for any writing issues for me.

He is simply put beautiful to watch how he crafts the scene.

I've come back to watch that scene multiple times just because of how powerful and well done it was. I love several specific episodes from different actors of The Doctor, some episodes clearly standing above the rest and a rare few being in a league of their own. This was one of those rare few that defined The Doctor and the actor playing him.

I love this breakdown so much, as it has taken a moment I already love from Capaldi's era and has given me a greater appreciation for it on a technical and artistic level. So thank you for that! I 100% agree, if there's one area where Stephen Moffat's era as showrunner truly shined it was in the monologues written for Smith and Capaldi. The writers knew how to utilise both Capaldi and Smith's unique strengths as actors to craft truly gut wrenching monologues. Something I have really missed in Who recently.

My heart belongs to Christopher Eccleston (he's the only reason I even started watching), but Capaldi really grew on me the more I watched of him. And this Zygon speech is probably one of the best scenes and for all the reasons you said. Love it.

Eccleston is the only one who convinced my subconscious that he was an alien. And The Empty Child haunted my childhood. But the scene is indeed gold.

Loved Capaldi he was fantastic absolutely loved Heaven Sent & Hell Bent ..... no other doctor could have pulled these episodes off

I have been a Dr Who fan since 1969 when I was given a doctor who hardcover novel to read by my sister for x-mass. I have enjoyed all of his various incarnations and all of his adventures throughout the years. To me they are all my doctor.

Capaldi is my favorite Doctor as well. He can chew words and spit them out as well as any Shakespearean prose. He looks like, and embodies the spirit of the Doctor so well. He was top tier. I hope you consider in a future video his relationship with Clara or even a video on Clara herself and her importance to the Doctor and its aftermath. Thanks for considering it.

Great video, thanks for putting it together, absolutely loved it. I too have watched this scene more times than I can count. Capaldi is by far my favorite Doctor. The complexity he brought to the character and the growth that his Doctor had throughout the run had me in tears so many times those his last 2 seasons. Side note, he’s also gotta be the coolest Doctor with the best toys. The outfits, guitar playing, and TARDIS all are spot on for his personality and vibe. While I can understand why people have problems with the Sonic Sunglasses, I’m not a Dr Who purest, so I just think they’re cool, and also representative of a Doctor that clearly did things his own way.

Totally agree, Capaldi is my number one after re-watching the whole reboot 5 or 6 times, no one else can do what he does.

Best comment I ever heard regarding the 12th Doctor is that he’s a Classic Era Doctor in the New Era. I couldn’t agree more with that statement. Peter’s portrayal is not only a phenomenal display of his talent, but poetic. Especially since he was the former president of the fan club as a teen. But then again I’m a 12th & 6th Doctor fan.

Peter Capaldi is the best actor to have ever played the Doctor. His performances are stunning. He can summon up an emotion with one look. He’s definitely the best modern Doctor. Miss him so much. Great video.

Capaldi embraces the whole Doctor's previous incarnations in one. I can't look at him like just an ordinary incarnation. he's the Doctor.

Capaldi won me over by simply not scurrying around and talking excitedly in a high-pitched voice as much as the other reboot doctors.

I vaguely remember Jon Pertwee's incarnation, but I was 8 or 9 when Tom Baker assumed the mantle, and he was my Doctor. Forever... or so I thought. By the time Peter Davison came along I was teenager and waaay too cool for Dr Who. Glanced in on the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh (when nobody was looking) and kinda liked Sylvester McCoy but never got too involved. By the time Christopher Eccleston arrived I had three boys, the oldest of whom was a teenager and waaay too cool for you-know-who. The two younger ones loved it, and magnificent David Tennant even more, remaining THE centrepiece of our family's viewing even as catch-up and streaming began to appear. Saturday evening with the Doctor was a date (after which their poor Mum was left to watch Strictly on her own). By halfway through the Matt Smith era - he was also great - all three were up and away, living their own lives. We'd still exchange the odd text after an episode, but there were hundreds - and occasionally thousands - of miles between our residences. If we managed to have them all home for Christmas the day was structured around the Dr Who special. Like old times. Then came Capaldi. Having only really taken note of him as Malcolm Tucker, and though I thought he was magnificent in that role, I was astonished. Then I wasn't. He was perfect casting. For me, he took the character of the Doctor to new heights and since I was much closer to his age bracket than Matt Smith's and he now had an accent like mine(!), I related to Capaldi's performance like nothing that had come before. For me it was Shakespearian in its depth and range, somehow always evolving while manifesting some essential restless core to the soul of this character. Simply one of the great dramatic performances in a long form TV role, up there with Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman, Elizabeth Moss as Peggy Olson, and a handful of others. Capaldi brought so much to the role, reaching back into his childhood, reflecting back on his own journey from wide-eyed kid enthralled by this odd hero to the reality - odd choice of word, I know, but bear with - to the reality of what it means to actually live a life to those standards. And nowhere more than in the monologue you identified. Compelling. Moving. Brilliant. Thank you.

I don't see enough appreciation of that scene anywhere online. You did an amazing job breaking it down and I will now be going back to rewatch it yet again because it's so true to life and shows such a deep understanding of who the doctor is at his core.

If you only look at the re boot you may not like Capaldi, but he brings back the original doctor who was a grumpy grandfather.

I can keep coming back to your videos, just like i always go back to Capaldi's seasons. I finally got my wife to watch Doctor Who, and we are currently starting Tenants first episode. I'm excited for her to get to my favorite episodes, but more than anything, i can't wait for her to get to Capaldi. I think he is able to encapsulate the reason why The Doctor quickly became my favorite show and hero.

Capaldi is, imo, one of the very greatest talents to ever enter Doctor Who, in its entirety. I know they fumbled his early writing but the final season is some of my favourite DW in all the modern era. The way he misses social stuff and needs cue cards to sort of relate to people, that spoke to me so hard as an autistic person. The 12th Doctor feels like home to me, I absolutely adore him and his chemistry with Pearl Mackie was just next level, Bill Potts deserves all the praise too, I wish we saw more of her.

Capaldi brought depths and complexity that every other incarnation lacked severely, every second counts hard in capaldi's acting , best doctor hands down

when I read the title I immediately thought of 3 scenes, one was correct but just thinking about how there could possibly be 3 (and many more) "Capaldi's Greatest Scene" just shows how fucking good Capaldi was, and how the script complemented his acting. Alongside Jenna Colemans acting in this scene also, while a controversial companion her acting is always brilliant and does really work with Capaldi; showing the emotion that we all feel. I do feel like prior to lockdown he was a very slept upon doctor and I'm so glad to see a lot of these videos surface giving him the full credit he deserves for his run.

You're right. Peter does incredible monologues. There are too many to pick a favourite, their variety as magnificent as their passion. He speaks eloquently even to contradict himself with his fists. I love all of his speeches. The Zygon one, the one to Missy and The Master, the whimsical one in the graveyard, all of Heaven Sent. The simple 'Hello Sweetie' to soothe River Song as she feels abandoned and alone. The sincerest question 'Am I a good man?'. The weight of the answer must be crushing to someone balancing the fate of the Universe on their judgement. The value of a human life. His final regeneration speech one of the most eloquent and powerful, simple and sincere. I love all the doctors, but there's something magical, precise that epitomised the Doctor as Peter. It was a genuine conclusion, a point of happiness, and completion for the character. It was an insurmountable challenge for Chris to write anything to follow such a summation of this most inspirational of characters in fiction.

Agree 100%. I am currently rewatching the Capaldi era (yet) again, and enjoy seeing him make the most of everything he’s given, whether it be rather “meh”, like “Sleep No More”, or brilliant, such as this, “Heaven Sent”, or “Listen”.

One thing I loved was that when he plays the guitar that is Peter Capaldi actually playing he was in a rock band a while ago

Capaldi is my brother and I's favorite Doctor. I remember the day this episode came out, we were both watching and just dead silent as Capaldi just spoke hard truths. We were speechless even after the episode was over.

I was on an early Classic Who binge when Capaldi's first episodes aired. Hartnell's, Troughton's and Pertwee's Doctors all were very different from the Doctors portrayed by Eccleston, Tennant or Smith. But Capaldi's Doctors offered a synthesis of Doctors past and present from the very start of his run. Three episodes in, I was already convinced Capaldi's interpretation of the Doctor was going to be brilliant; I wasn't disappointed.

Man, I hear you. I wish we could have more of him! He was practically a perfect Doctor to me, embodying the gravitas that some other Doctors often forget or fail to capture. I loved him. Especially in that last season, though Heaven Sent may be my very favorite episode of Doctor Who of all. I will say, though, if any Doctor ranks higher, it might just be dear Paul McGann. He was my first real contact with the whole affair, and I always have a soft spot for black sheep.
