It's true, really. The Doctor just keeps on running because he doesn't want the depression to get him. He fears it, so keeps running away from all the mistakes he made. But every great man still has a breaking point. The Doctor shoulders the burden of trillions in his heart. He blames himself for so many things, so many deaths, so many failures. That's why I want to be his companion. Not because I want to see the universe, not because I love his company, but because he needs someone with him, not just to hold him back when he goes too far, but for someone to be there for him, just like when he's been there for the universe time and time again. He needs someone to help him with the burden he carries, and I want to be that person. (No homo. Yes, I'm a guy)

its always when we see the darker side does matt bring out the most epic speeches. eg. Captain Runaway, Something you never put in a trap, Basically run, etc.

@Jbass56 it applies to the 11th doctor since its another persona (every doc a bit different) so its his personal rules (river song's rules for the doctor), hopefully we get to find out about his greatest fear (god complex) and about the "monster" trapped near the black hole....

That would be why I would like such an episode. The Doctor acting like the Master. He already showed some signs of that when he pointed at gun at Jex.

i hope they show more of the dark side. think about it he's old, he's lost so much. it's going to catch up with him some time or other. plus time lords went insane with power the older they got. they even wanted to destroy the universe to "ascent into greatness." i think one point he'll stop caring and start to do whatever is nescicary to protect himself. (i hope this happens with the 12th dr though.) but it's us humans that set him back straight. without humans the dr would go insane.

@Jbass56 I think some of it is kind of lies of omission and also the fact that he might tell someone something he wants to be true but deep down knows it's not. Like Rose asks if he's going to leave her behind and he says no, but he knows one way or another they will be separated. I don't think it's usually malicious but I do kind of think the Doctor sometimes thinks of his companions as children and tells them half-truths or only what he thinks they can handle or for their own good.

But that ends the show. Because he loved Rose so much if he were to be driven mad by her death he'd never come back from it. The Doctor would become the Master. Plus I can't handle Rose dying. Her being in Pete's World was/is difficult enough.

I started watching with the 9th Doctor, so I can't say much about the others. I will say that the 9th and 10th doctors made a point to try to spare their enemies by giving them the choice to do the right thing. In the episodes where the 10th did all those things to that family, he went as far as becoming human and running away to try to spare them. And, he also tried to save Davros after Davros tried to destroy the universe. The 11th destroyed a whole fleet of Cybermen just to make a point.

@DavidB1001 I first saw Doctor Who back with number 4, which dates me I guess, but anyway even then he tried to save even the bad ones when he could. 5 often tried to save everyone. 6 is one many don't seem to like much. 7 I never saw. Of course 1 was willing to kill. We do a lot of things in the beginning we wouldn't later on. He lives longer than most so he learns how fragile life is and he respects it, including the evil.

If I may cut in. You're being a little quick to think. Maybe, Doctor Who fans(who are girls) are fans because of the show, its history, the enemies, the brilliant story line and the fiction surrounding the show. I started watching because I'm obsessed with Science Fiction and British television, I only started watching in 2005, but that's because I'm 17. While I'm not saying the past doctors are not attractive, that is not the only reason I watch the show. So please don't jump to conclusions. :)

When did Rule No. 1 become "The Doctor lies"? I mean, that seems to be a new thing with the new production team and the new doctor. I don't really remember David Tennant's doctor being a huge liar. And, I personally, hope they don't make the doctor any more dark and depressed than he has been previously. I hate the idea that he believes that he's ruined people's lives or that he is responsible for all the death that is around him.

How about this...the Doctor reunites with Rose. Then Madam Kovarian comes and kills Rose. The Doctor then unlocks his worst side, and becomes a character never seen before in the show. He is driven insane, even more insane than the Master. For the first time, he uses guns, and goes on a killing spree. He displays hatred towards the Silence, even more hatred than he displays toward Daleks. He starts a massacre, and swears to not stop until Kovarian is stone dead. Moffat, can you write this story?
