The Disappearance of Alicia Amanda Stokes

#strangedisappearnces
#missingincalifornia
Hello everyone, In today's video we will be discussing the very bizarre disappearance of Alicia Amanda Stokes,. She was better known as Mandy Stokes. Originally from North Carolina, she was taking classes in psychology John F. Kennedy University in Oakland, California.
Mandy was living in Oakland, California in 2007 when she left her apt one November day and was never seen from or heard from again.
Amanda was 33 years old at the time, is roughly 5'3"and 120lbs. She's got brown hair with blonde highlights. She has her navel and ears pierced, as well as a tattoo on her wrist. She was last seen wearing running pants and left her apt on Merritt Avenue in Oakland at roughly 1030 am on Nov 25, 2007 after getting into a heated agreement with her roommate. Her car was found two days later about 2 miles away , partially in a ravine..it was blocking traffic, so it was towed. At the time no one knew it was part of a missing persons case.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you Mandy, your mom and all your family, friends and those trying to bring you home🙏🙏
Thank you for watching and please be respectful in the comments if you choose to leave them 🙏

It sounds to me like her brother killed her, dumped her body somewhere, put her stuff in her car and ditched it nearby. Crazy that the police didn’t get a warrant or gain access to the apartment for 2 months - they would not have needed the brother’s permission to enter if the lease wasn’t in his name. Sounds like a very poor investigation. Also seems clear that they found enough blood and physical evidence to determine that she was badly injured or killed in the apartment. Very sad.

From what I recall about this case is that the brother was being kicked out of Mandy's apartment , by her due to his stealing something like 6k from her and writing bad checks on her accounts. Also, he was completely uncooperative with the Police from the start of the investigation and continued using her debit card after she went missing. He had a bad drug problem and stole all of his sister's money. Maybe the family got him a lawyer , because I think Mandy's mother was in denial about the circumstances at hand and helped him out by letting him move in with her. Such a tragic loss and I wish LE would've got a search warrant for the apartment right away. I think the brother killed her in that apartment. Sad, sad case.

Doesn't seem like her family was cooperative at all. You would think they would do anything to find out what happened to her, including grilling the brother. But, on the other hand maybe they were trying to protect him. No family cooperation would make this all the harder to solve.

She was either kidnapped from her car by some unknown assailant, or her brother did her in inside the house, put her body in her car along with her stuff, dumped the body somewhere, and then left her car on the side of the road running to throw the cops off of his trail and in the wrong direction.

The argument occurred because her brother had been using HER bank card and draining HER bank account.,of HER money. This meant there would be no money for rent,etc..because of the amount of $ that the brother stole out of her bank account. And it was thought that she was going to go to the police about the matter.

My wife and I lived in the apartment next to her when this happened. Our bedroom wall was her kitchen wall. The reports that say her and her brother, "argued so loud the neighbors heard them," that's us. We reported that to the OPD homocide detective, Derwin Longmire (later fired from the OPD for corruption and mishandling evidence). We also reported that we heard her brother in the kitchen either the night of or the night after she went missing, crying and singing, "She Talks to Angels" by the Black Crows. Specifically, that part of the song. Seemed pretty important to us that he would emphasize those words, "She Talks to Angels," if she was only missing and not dead. He was a creepy dude, we always felt he was responsible for her going missing.

I lived in LA around this time and services was horrible on cell phones. Supposedly there were not enough towers. I remember being in Burbank and trying to call a friend on my cell, only to get a message to try later. Even in my house, my cell phone worked better in the living room than in the back of the house. I have AT&T. So, cell phone service was not that great back then. I don't know if someone cut her off though. I do know that I used to lose service in the middle of call - even on the landline.

I empathize for Amanda. It’s hard to navigate a positive self perspective at times when life serves hard “lessons”. Then adding relationships to the mix is an emotional roller coaster. Especially if she was seeking help while dealing with adverse reactions. I pray for her/her family. Thanks for sharing these cases while giving us words of peace & motivation.

I think Mandy’s brother (the one who was living with her) is involved in her disappearance, especially after the fight the two had. He could have driven her car to the location where it was found, locked it with her belongings inside, and easily walked the two miles back to the apartment. It’s anyone’s guess what he did with her body. I don’t understand why the police didn’t get a warrant and search Mandy’s apartment immediately after her car was found. I think the police dropped the ball by not immediately searching her apartment for evidence. And once new tenants moved in, any evidence that might have been there earlier was forever lost. This is an extremely sad case.

I used to live on Merritt Ave in Oakland back in 2010. The area was *not* nefarious. Oakland is not a hotbed of crime and drugs the way everyone thinks, but the area around the lake can be dicey at night if you’re walking around alone. But there’s no neighborhood around there where you would drive to get out to buy drugs. It’s more likely a corrupt cop than a car jacker

In the early years of my sister having schizophrenia, she would park her car in places that got it towed. She would be driving along seeing wild animals running along the road chasing her. African styled big animals like giraffes, elephants, or rhinos. She was very scared in her hallucinations and would tell me how they would hide along side the freeway watching for her.. She would just stop in the middle of the road and leave the car where it was.

Dovie Ruth Author ; 👍, you're correct, 💯%. I worked in and around Oakland for many years. True, there are some nice but, expensive areas there. For the most part though, if you drive down many of the streets, you'd better have your windows rolled up, your doors lock and, your foot close to the accelerator. It's that bad. We used to have Hookers come into our shop on the evening shifts trying to hustle up some business. I remember when there was a homicide right across from our shop. I'm speaking about High St. and, Coliseum area.

I know this is old but I just listened to it. I think her brother's story is weak. If they had such a bad fight before she left she likely wouldn't have told him she was leaving - she would have just left. I think he may have chased her down or followed her. I think she was dragged out of her car at a stop or turn and taken somewhere else - probably close by. They will probably eventually find her remains, but I feel her brother had something to do with this. It's also suspicious that the family cleaned the place out before the police were able to gain access. But you see this with families who are protecting other family members. They lost one and they don't want to lose another even though the person had been responsible. We had a case like this here in our area where a brother killed his sister and the family covered for him. Eventually he was found guilty, but....... it was a long slog before they were able to get to that decision.

There are at least a few angles here that warrant more investigation, but I do have to say - there are parts of Oakland where you mind your own business and don't see anything. Used to live there. Overall it's a great city, but it has some rough patches, like all big cities do.

My comment isn't about this video. However there is a crime commited in eastern oregon that I really wish you could cover on your videos. It concerns Liysa Northon, who killed her husband ( a pilot) on a camping trip at Wallowa Lake in Oregon.i just wish Bryan that you could look into the case. Thank you.

Quite stressful owing your dealer, having her, or him, turn up while your talking to your boyfriend.

I think if you just stood on her brother's throat somewhere around 1 minute and 45 second mark he would tell you where sisters body is at

Very clearly her brother knows more than he is telling. Most likely, he is the one who made her disappear. They have this BIG fight. He is a crack head. Anger could easily arise in such a person. She goes for a drive right after. Her car is abandoned. She disappears and he is VERY reluctant to help out?? Yet he blames it on his drug issue. BS. This guy took her life. Sad. He will pay in the end, right?

That thought came to my mind as well about getting pulled over by law or imposing as the law what time if day was it ya think the car was discovered on the side of the road?

Sounds like someone else was in the car, cut off the call, told her pull over- get out etc.

A dropped call is a very different type of even from a mobile terminated call due to it being turned off. Unless it was the type of phone where you can literally yank out the battery (super rare nowadays). Weird the cops said that.

She may have been recklessly driving and cut someone off who caught up to her, made her stop and kidnapped her...somebody who happened to have a short temper.

Wait a sec. They had a fight and then she left? That alone is pretty suspicious.

In NY a woman was raped on a subway platform during rush hour, so waiting for people in a big city to help or say something to police is rare. Especially if you are in an area where the cartels rule.

What was the argument about? In order to leave her car running etc she knew who stopped her and she either was forced out of her car or willingly left it, probably her brother that is to blame, she's buried in the desert somewhere.

She went to score after having an argument with her brother, got out, maybe went into the car with the person she was buying from, either an altercation happened or he planned to kidnap her the whole time

She was believed to be suicidal and the car was parked near a ravine. The simplest solutions are often the most likely.
