Hiker Disappears feet from others, Wilhelmina State Park. What happened to Gloria?

#gloriawhitemooremcdonald

Hello everyone, in today's video I'll be discussing the very bizarre and suspicious disappearance of Gloria White Moore McDonald who went missing in January 26, 2001 in Polk County Arkansas in Queen Wilhelmina State Park. Gloria was 68 years old at the time, 5'6" 120lbs, with red hair and brown eyes.
She was wearing a blue flannel shirt, glossy bright yellow jacket, jeans, blue sneakers and rose tinted glasses. She was also carrying a Minolta Riva Zoom 90 camera with serial# 40907425.
She separated from her husband, step son, and the step sons gf roughly 200 feet up the trail when they came across down trees and debris on the trail. it was at this point Gloria decided to turn around and go check out the gift shop.
Her family returned less than 30 minutes later and Gloria was gone.. all her stuff including her purse were locked in their car, exactly where they left it.
They couldn't find Gloria anywhere and contacted the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
This is the story..
My thoughts and prayers go out to Gloria, her friends and family and everyone who loves her🙏 I pray you get justice one day soon🙏 There were not a lot of articles or info out there on this case, and since it happened so long ago, I was hoping to breathe new life into the case. I just find the whole case extremely suspicious, and yes it could have just been a random accident, however, so many things seem very odd.
Thank you for watching and please be respectful in the comments if you choose to leave them 🙏

His first wife died of natural causes… just means they couldn’t figure out how she died. And now his 2nd wife is missing, quickly presumed dead by her loving family. The fact that the husband cut down his wife’s appearance during a time like this, speaks volume.

The supposed semi-family sound very suspect. Younger husband. Was there an insurance policy or property involved? They all sounded like they wanted her to be dead. Someone mentioned it below that the description of what she wore and possessions are "amazingly detailed." Foul play for sure! Hopefully, the guilty parties suffer from remorse as it seems like a case closed situation.

That park is HUGE. It is surrounded by National Forest. It is some of the roughest country I have ever played in. One area is called Earthquake Ridge. Wild rough terrain. Caves, cliffs, rivers very very steep terrain. Would not surprise me if she fell into a hard to reach area. There are also bears, mountain lions and coyotes all over the place.

Keep a dedicated backpack that's basically ready to go, other than perishables. Bring a gn (defense and signaling), a Personal Locator Beacon, a good knife, and a whistle. And, of course, don't leave your phone behind, and make sure it's charged. (You *may have signal in some areas, and the police can use it to help find you too.) Add extra water high protein food and Gatoraid candy/gum. Add, a *couple of lighters, a Ziploc with cotton balls dipped in Vaseline (fire starter), a packable wind breaker jacket & and a warm, fleece or thermal layer (even in Summer). Add a pair of dry socks, a water filter straw, and a couple of heavy duty, Lawn & Leaf bags (FOR; sitting or sleeping on wet ground, a rain poncho, a rain/wind proof shelter, and signaling), a small roll of Duck Tape (for shelter making, and treating a broke bone- making a splint), an ace bandage, and a mini First Aid Kit with extra roll of gauze. Always carry a powerful mini flash light (**with extra batteries), and a Chapstick, and Kleenex and paper towel in a Ziploc. None of the above is heavy, except for the water, but water means life, so it's critical. Don't short change yourself! Obviously, your pack will get lighter as you go. Keep the plastic bottles. (If you become lost and come across a water source, fill them up and use your filter straw.)

I live nearby (Hot Springs, AR) and have hiked this trail many times. It's a loop that starts & ends at the Lodge (where the gift shop is) - but no mention is made of which direction they started walking the trail in. (Most folks would follow a north-around-to-south route.) But either way you go, the "first few hundred yards" of trail closest to the Lodge is a very easy, mostly-level stroll through the woods. If she fell, she couldn't do more than roll a few feet downhill before fetching up against a tree. There's also a busy road just below the northern part of the trail. The trail is clearly marked and easy to follow, so the idea of her getting lost is very unlikely even if she were unfamiliar with the area. Yes there are bears in the area - and this trail has been closed before because of bear sightings! - but an attack that left no evidence is also unlikely (the same goes for mountain lions, which are rare and seldom-seen around here). If she was in the park, I doubt she died there by some misadventure or she would have been found by now.

@@fetus2280 I'd say it's about half pine-trees (too many sub-species to count), then a mix of Red & White Oak, Hickory, some Cedar - but in the warmer months there's just a riot of undergrowth: vines & creepers, saplings, hedges, blackberry brambles... it can resemble a rain-forest jungle that's hard to see 10-feet through (you'll need a machete if you're not following a clear trail). Yeah, in the summer there could be a black bear just a few feet away from you that you still couldn't see! But in the winter it's a lot different, and one of the reasons it's my favorite time to hike is because you CAN see through the woods so much better and appreciate the "lay of the land" in a way you can't in summer. Now there are a lot of big rocky outcrops with many little caves, crannies, and shelters which animals may use as dens, and some of these may be difficult to get to or even find. And I guess it's remotely possible that someone may find her entire remains - camera and all - in one of these places someday. But that doesn't feel right to me - I think there's something fishy about the story and I'm beginning to doubt that she was ever there. But stranger things have happened! Do you know the story of John Glasgow? He went missing apparently in Petit Jean State Park here in AR, but all the best professional search teams couldn't find him... until someone happened to find his skull there *7 years later*. What happened is still a mystery... www.abnormalarkansas.com/post/what-happened-to-john-glasgow

I hope they are investigating the husband and have searched his house and vehicles as well as those of the two that were with them because she was never in the park, that is rolling hills, and finding her would be easy in those clothes. There was simply no time for her to go anywhere unless she was abducted but she wasn't seen leaving either and a stranger wouldn't make an effort to hide her body, he'd also want the credit cards locked in the car so I can see why the community thinks he did it. He probably did it alone and those two are helping in the alibi but may have been directly involved in disposing of the body so they will have reason not to squeal but the detectives need to break one of them to get the truth, find out where it happened and get some evidence because they know what we know.

There's an urban park (urban forest, really) near here. I've lived here all my life and never knew it existed! Couple years ago a group of us were there and at one point I needed to go find somebody and ended up walking through the place on my own. It was sooo creepy, in large part because it was so unexpected! It was completely dense and if I didn't know I was in the city I might have believed I was hundreds of miles from civilization. It was very hilly, and if a person injured themselves at the wrong time and couldn't get themselves out, they could easily be there a few days before being discovered if they didn't have a phone with them. The "small" size or popularity of a park does not make it inherently safe. I realized anybody could come to harm there/ a body hidden, or a person could live there and nobody would be any other wiser.

I must assume the police looked into any family grievances and also talking to other friends of the family and checking if there were any financial motives, it is a definite possibility that she was killed in another location and that the whole hiking tour was an invention to look like a mysterious disappearance. A strange case.

This sounds sketchy as h*ll! The truth will always make sense. This family's story makes NO sense. I personally doubt she was on that trail at all, I mean a lady in brightly coloured clothes and the park employee isn't sure he even saw her that day? That's just weird. Also, the family seems to be selling a particular story of what happened to her, abduction? I mean, she couldn't have fallen somewhere off the trail where she couldn't be seen or maybe had a health event? Finally, people pass polygraph every day who are guilty as sin. Polygraphs just measure physical responses which are produced by emotions. This is why polygraph results cannot be used in a court of law. Those machines cannot truly detect lies. The results are based on the person giving the polygraph and are subjective at best. At any rate this is very sad. I hope there is resolution at some point.

My initial thought was that she was never there. To be wearing such bright clothing and yet be unseen by anyone but the family, seems unusual. Were gift shop employees questioned about seeing her? Did she have keys to get in the car? Was there a life insurance policy, and who were her beneficiaries and Will dispersal recipients? It sounds like she was a "no nonsense" lady who had friends and knew many people. It is possible someone grabbed her off the trail, or maybe pulled her into a building or lured her somewhere and hit her over the head and dumped her in a park vehicle. It's all very odd. If she wasn't on the Mountain, 3 people would have to had planned together, which seems a tad odd to involve a girlfriend...

In order for them to pull this off all 3 would have to be in on it. That's a tall order but possible. My question is how close were all their stories? Was it scripted? The weak link would be the girlfriend. This sounds like incompetent policing AGAIN. The FBI should look at this case with expert interrogators to see what they can find. Find the most likely broken up girlfriend and see what she has to say again.

If the daughter said. My mother is dead .Because if she was abducted she would have mouthed off to the person. So if she was mouthy as the daughter said.It is doubtful her husband would love being with someone long term with someone real mouthy. But that is no excuse to hurt or kill someone .Just get rid of them and move on.If the husband killed her . Or the stepson.I am sure he experienced her mouthy behavior also. Some people get so angry at someone .They snap not in words but in physical violence. And then that can get in a more mouthy atmosphere .Like I am calling the cops .You hit me.I will see you rot in jail. Then that can lead to someone killing the person. As far as family members helping covering things up.I was a P.I in Boston for a time . And a wife was covering up her husband molesting their 4 year old daughter. When the husband had given his S.T.D to that little girl in every place she had.It was the worst emotional case I did for me.I mentally killed that guy many times. But got the daughter away from, those 2 losers . They both will never see .Or have contact with their daughter ever again. This to me sounds like a killing and cover up of that lady. As far as the polygraph.I myself can pass a polygraph. Even if the person asks me if I have been abducted by extraterrestrials. And I say yes . And they cannot be used as proof of anything . They are not like a breathalyzer for having drank to much . Some people just should not be together .

I’m not sure about the parking lot near the hotel, but it’s not likely they have cctv out there. I was just there a few weeks ago & they did have bear warnings posted at the hotel & park. It’s a vast park surrounded by National Forrest mostly untouched by humans & has a popular drive along the top of the mountains. I’ve never seen any cctv out there anywhere & I go about once a year. There is also a hiking trail that goes the length of the Natl Forrest from Oklahoma into Arkansas. Lots of wild boar & mountain lions out there as well. And, when we were there recently, the fog was so thick you couldn’t see the hotel until you were parked right in front of it making cctv useless if they had it. Granted it’s not always foggy, but when it is it’s like the Smokey Mountains.

Wife and I hiked it a few times and it never struck us as a dangerous place to easily disappear in. There are sheer cliffs and someone could possibly fall or be pushed to their death and if they fell far enough down into heavy thick brush or forest, never seen again. Supposedly, drunk drivers lose control and go over edges of roads in these mountains and vehicles and bodies are not found for months, if ever.

My first thought was maybe she had life insurance or a nice savings account that her husband and his son wanted. But, after reading several articles, that doesn’t seem to be the case. We stayed at that lodge in the 80’s and it was nice. Apparently there was a lot of drug and gun activity in that area during the time Gloria went missing. Maybe she did see something. They were there in the off season, so there wouldn’t have been guests staying at the lodge. But, I have to wonder if she was even in the park. And why would her husband leave Arkansas for Florida so quickly? I researched Daniel McDonald in Florida and found an obituary that stated “Daniel McDonald of Chiefland/Cedar Key passed away after a tragic motor vehicle accident on April 20, 2010 one day shy of his 73rd birthday.” He was not married, but did have a son named Sean. Who knows if that is the same person. Either way, Gloria would be 89 years of age if she was alive. This is a very sad case. (As a side note, I find it strange that they reported the serial number of her camera. We have quite a few cameras and I couldn’t tell you the make/model of them, much less the serial number.)

One statement I caught was that all of the lady's possessions were found locked in the car. I would be curious to know if the investigators were able to search the rooms of the husband, stepson, and his girfriend. Was any suitcase, clothing, personal items, etc belonging to the lady found in the husband's bedroom. If not, this would be a big red flag that she was never there. Why were her belongings in the car, instead of her room? Were items of the woman placed in the car just to give the appearance she had been with them? Very interesting and bizarre case.
