The Dig Kit: Archaeologists and their Tools

Since the channel just broke 1000 subscribers, just for fun I thought I'd make some low-effort content. I'm preparing for excavations in Alaska this summer, so I thought I'd go over the tools in my dig kit.

Dang... I could have taken you somewhere interesting... You digging along the new highway route? I am down around the mounds of the Bayou Savage refuge... investigating what we (Brother) believe to be a ancient salt production built on the shore of ponchatrain bay.

Are those regular Carpenters trowels or drywall trowel,? Or are they specially built specifically for archaeology? I know nothing about drywall so I wouldn't know what a drywall trowel difference would be..... also are you going to continue your videos when you go to Alaska?

  • @NathanaelFosaaen

I've been a professional since 2012. We basically go out and identify the locations of sites, determine if previously identified sites are eligible for further legal protections, and excavate the sites that are protected and are under some sort of threat, like highway construction, mining, erosion, looting, etc. I've also been a grad student at University of Tennessee, Knoxville since 2019. I should be back to full-time field work once I'm done with that in the spring.
