How routine it feels like
Like I fell through the floor
Crushed by another passing
It’s all happened before
Still I’m not pretending
To know every story and every choice
I’m just some voice below
The background noise
I hope that it’s cancer
And not something else
Cause I don’t need anymore things
I don’t wanna talk about
How could I think such a thing?
Who am I to say?
Daily devastation that I can’t validate
“What’s wrong with you?”
They’ll ask about me
“You’re done, you’re through”
Still I’m not pretending
To know every story and every choice
I hope that it’s cancer
And not something else
Cause I don’t need anymore things
I don’t wanna talk about
I don’t need an answer
Care about heaven or hell
I hope that it’s cancer
So what does that say about myself?

This song is a constant tearjerker for me. Making this acoustic is like a whole onion in song form 😭 this album is a masterpiece!

I like the fact that whoever wrote the lyrics for this song (I don't know if it was Mike or Jeremy) did it out of a deep sense of self-criticism, roasting himself for having said "I hope that is cancer and not something else" as if it were a good thing. Singing a phrase like that and publicly and openly acknowledging your mistake is one of the most admirable attitudes that a human being can have.

In an interview, mike hranica said he wrote this in relation to the high suicide rate, many of those being people he respected. Someone else passed and he assumed it was suicide, later to find it was cancer. He said he was oddly relieved to hear that person didn’t kill themselves

“Lyrically, this song is about how many of the people I have looked up to and idolized have ended up committing suicide. It is something that has always made me question if I was on the right path in my own life. During the recording process, we learned of a another death, and I immediately assumed it was suicide. It ended up that this person had been secretly battling cancer for years, and for some reason, that made me feel relieved. The track addresses how messed up that thought process is and the guilt that comes along with it.”

Nice version of the song. Just wished the harsh vocals weren't so far back in the background. It's almost like they are trying to copy the bass guitar on justice for all with the unclean vocals...

The harsh vocals aren't the focus in this version, being further back in the mix they effectively amplify the anguish. I think it's a brilliant move for this melancholic version.

No, their earlier music that y'all love to praise for some odd fucking reason is what's bad. The songwriting and emotion present on _Color Decay_ puts it in a league of its own compared to the rest of their discography. I would say that one day you and many others will be able to realize that, but I don't have that much faith.

@@SWC-el8lp Color Decay is a bad polished emo album. 8:18-The Act was raw and different. Color Decay was a huge step back. I mean they’ve always been kind of a “boy” band but this new album really shows it

  • @VIL3-VOR3

Why don’t you go ahead and cry about it. Go ahead and keep listening to all your raw and heavier stuff. You don’t have to be here. You’re just another voiceless opinion to be honest. They don’t know you. But most importantly they didn’t make this album just for you. The way you don’t appreciate the album and the growth really shows how much maturity you haven’t gained. They’re getting older, and really nobody wants to be doing the same thing for 15+ years. So if you want heavy. There are other bands and you can leave.
