    Good band sir - but for me Killswitch Engage laid the template for all Metalcore that followed. They are the masters of that style of music. Alive or just breathing is the quintessential Metalcore album. Both in terms of the sonic qualities in mixing brutality with melody but also the hardcore aesthetics in the lyrics and the vocal techniques.

    I've been a fan since Dear Love and Color Decay is incredible. After a few albums of trying to figure out their new sound, they have perfectly capture the balance between pop/heavy/atmospheric.

    Even though Jeremy doesn't really write lyrics, he does such a good job conveying the emotions that Jonathan and Mike put into their lyrics. You'd think it was Jeremy's lyrics eith how effectively he translates them! So he does an awesome job like he tries to!

    I actually saw them on sounds of the underground back in 2007. It was a pretty metal tour so to speak and this was when vitriol for anything perceived as emo was at its peak. They went so goddamn hard on stage and really left an impression. So while he says they got roasted I distinctly remember them winning over a portion of the crowd. Great memories, been a huge fan since.

    Dear Love and Plagues maybe weren't the best stuff they released from a technical aspect, but those albums are just so bizarre and wonderful and seriously embody this punk aesthetic that was really not close to the mainstream at that point in time. It really sounded like people who maybe didn't know what they were doing, but they were having a blast burning the barn to the ground and that's what endeared me to this band.

    Just saw these guys live, like a few months ago, with Dying Wish and Stray from the Path. They played both their Zombie EPs there in full along with a bunch of other stuff. Been a fan since Plagues, I feel like since they came out, every other band within the 2010's metal core "scene" era was just trying to copy their sound, in fact, Finn actually talks about that concept in his Attack Attack video. I picked up Color Decay, loved it! Amazing record and it really shows these guy's music ages like a fine wine.

    Great discussion. I listened to them through high school (class of 09) and college and by that time I absolutely adored Dead Throne as a record. It was what followed that I kind of fell off. However, the ZII album pulled me back in as well Color Decay combined with my appreciation for what they're doing this far into their career. A lot of bands that survived (not all) from that era have changed drastically. Some have done it well (TDWP, Whitechapel) and others have not imo (Parkway, Architechts). I saw tdwp live a couple months ago and they're still phenomenal if not better than ever before.

    from what I've seen in interviews, the frontman Mike Hranica is still Christian, though he seems not to be as religious as he was as a younger man. A few of the other guys deconstructed or the Christian guys left and were replaced with nonreligious guys. So Mike thinks he's the only Christian left in the band...they don't identify as a "christian band" and haven't since around 2016.

    I have a genuine question, why have pretty much all the original band members trickled away, James, then chris, Dan, and Andy. I’ve loved watching TDWP live since 2009 but it feels much different not necessarily in a bad way, but it feels way different now than then and I’m curious what became of them.

  • @AGuyUwU

    @AGuyUwU

    The bigger the band got, the more their original mission dwindled: Ministry. James was kicked out during the Dead Throne era because the rest of the band wanted to move past what brought them far to begin with in addition to the fact that the band had to maintain its success by focusing more on business than being a ministry. Chris left for fatherhood, however, the band was already changed once Dead Throne came out as noticeable by the subtle lack of attention put on James' live presence and volume of his keys in the mix of the album. 8:18 was a mistake in their catalogue by being overly synth heavy with dark ambience and toned down the ferocity of their music. Dan was apparently kicked out at the beginning of the Transit Blues era for disagreeing with the direction the band was headed in for a while. James and Dan, especially James, reminded the band that their early stuff and their faith brought them as far as they came and the rest of the band wanted to escape that notion. Andy left just because he wanted to live his life outside of the band. All in all, the band isn't the same for all of these reasons, and the band was having some rocky times behind the scenes while all of this happened, so, now you have a live shell of what the band was with the stench of a corrupted world on them.
