I don't know how people can look at a murderer and find them attractive. Lee, Bundy, Dahmer, etc., the minute you tell me someone's a killer, they become immediately repulsive to me. So the fact that people are still swooning over them and want to date/marry/get lucky with them is just disgusting to me.

The guy was a grifter and conned older women into giving him everything they had, including their life savings. He basically romanced women using his good looks and then murdered them and stole their life insurance, then used their money to con more women. When the woman in this particular story found the dead taxi driver in his home, she happened to unravel his entire con story - however, when he was arrested, his picture was so good looking, a lot of people were skeptical that he was really a con man because how can someone so good looking be a con man? And that is their vapid, superficial line of reasoning….

Those poor furbabies, though. I feel bad for the victims and their families. I am so glad Moon survived. But those poor little furbabies....

Lee going off for no reason was a GIANT red flag, and 99.999% they are ALWAYS abusive. Moon was very lucky to have found out before it got worse.

I haven't finished watching yet, but when Mr. Ballen says someone is making a very special dinner, I wonder who's getting cooked.

My biggest question is why he'd ask moon to go to his apartment that had a ridiculous amount of incriminating evidence 😂 if his concern really was the animals he could've just left more food to make up for the time he'd be out.

Imagine poor Moon having to explain to her parents that she took them to dinner with a murderer. He must have been a good actor though because he seemed to have fooled a lot of people but like most of those types, they think they are so clever and do something so dumb and get caught.

@@thepaganapostate3208 Lee had murdered his ex girlfriend and taken possession of her home and cat. He basically scammed a whole bunch of people because he wasn't rich. The night he went to dinner with Moon and her parents he got in DUI accident with a taxi driver. He didn't want to go to jail so he offered to settle it privately, lured the driver to his home and murdered him. Then he decides to use the taxi drivers bankcard and stuff to pay for the gifts for Moon. He had to buy all these roses to mask the smell of the dead body in his house but he then asks Moon to feed the cat. She has no idea where the cat food is and whilst looking for it, finds the dead body and then they find out he's some sort of serial killer.

Im a cdl instructor and listen during my lunch break. It never fails, at least 2 students from every class say they love listening to mr. ballen's stories. You definitely have a strong fan base with truckers!!

I like Mr. Ballen. I am on another flight dreading the week of endless sales calls while wishing I could retire, but his stories are a pleasant distraction from the world.

Mr ballen is not only a story teller,he is also a motivation to his listeners

It's wild how often people will look at a (serial, especially ) killer and go, "but they're just so darn attractive, I think I'll become obsessively devoted to them!" Humans really are that shallow 🤦

I can't get past the accent of the bedtime stories guy, @mrballen has a very sing-song voice, smooth and equalized, and the bedtime stories voice is sharp and brittle. I know it sounds weird, but I need that melody ❤

My sympathy for her is sky high! It's so bizarre when they say, " Don't judge a book by it's cover!" And when you do leap, it's a murderer! Smh! And I'm so interested about hearing this new story, this was the greatest part, love all your channels! Thanks for another great one, Mr. Ballen! 🙂👏👏

Asian countries r so weird like that. That one guy who killed and ATE his girlfriend not only became famous but became a highly paid food critic who posed for magazine covers imitating the photos of him eating his girlfriend. This guy is worshipped for looking good and that other person was worshipped for the way he ended his family. Other countries don't have it happen in such large groups and they don't feel as strongly as they do over in Korea and Japan. It's quite wild. Amazing, smart and very polite society that has some odd quirks.

Not sure where Mr. Ballen got his source from, but Lee is not considered good-looking in S. Korea, let alone "exceptionally" so. Walk into any high school in Seoul, and you'll find plenty of guys who look like Lee. He's a dime a dozen.

I wonder if John is going to cover some more recent stories from Korea too. A load of awful instances have happened over here these last few years (well, in the past too) that have people all over the country worried, especially tutors :(

I think he did this story specifically because it is seasonally apt and hasn’t been covered by every true crime KZreadr. In fact I’ve never heard it before which is refreshing. You can only listen to the “Covina Christmas Massacre” of 2008 story so many times before you refuse to listen regardless how much you may like the video’s author.

There are literally hundreds of comments like this in the comments section, and it's so strange. There are always also comments about how someone's dad died, and Mr Ballen is helping to get through the situation. They are so bizarre and overly dramatic that I can't bring myself to believe that it's actual human beings writing the comments.

We appreciate Mr Ballen's accuracy with all the details. It keeps us engaged from beginning to end.

But they aren't accurate? He takes the details available and embellishes HEAVILY to create a story. Like, that is the whole point of this channel. He doesn't have access to crazy details no one else does, he is a storyteller and wants to keep you engaged. You can say he is entertaining, because he obviously is INCREDIBLE entertaining, but he isn't remotely "accurate". The largest part of each story is just made up.

@@marieniggenaber2605 He literally makes up the majority of the stories he tells. He consistently fills the telling with details that can't possibly be known that he invented wholecloth just to make the story better. It's not that he gets details wrong, it's that he just makes up most details.

Hi John, Alex here. You obviously don’t know me but I’ve been a true fan of your work since the Dyatlov story days. After all these years of watching your videos, I’ve recently muscled up enough courage to start a channel myself. I first came across your videos and thought you were a remarkable storyteller. Then I watched every video you had since then and fell in admiration of your character, especially when I discovered your accomplishments in helping out the victims. Not only are you an extraordinary story teller but you’ve changed the lives of real sentient human beings which could not be more powerful. Through my amateurish 1 month of KZread experience, I realized the ridiculous amount of grind, time and talent it takes to narrate such sensitive stories. My storytelling is nowhere near as captivating as yours but I strive to be a channel of your kind John ! If one day, somehow, I become a bigger channel, I make a pledge here in public and to myself to create authentic and transparent methods to aid victims of unfortunate tragedies, regardless of my monetary eligibility with KZread. I have questions, did I miss something? Why did he ask Moon to come to his apt to feed the cats? Where was he and what was he doing while she was there in his apt? Did he plan to also kill her in his apartment and just wasn’t there when she arrived? Had she never been to his apartment before? That’s odd that he never invited her there before but she had a key. Can someone please explain? It’s like that part of the story was missing. Thanks to anyone who reads and comments on the questions!

? It was literally said at 7:15 out loud that he invited her to feed his cats because he would be too busy with preparations for Christmas dinner. It’s not said she’s never been at the apartment, only said she never knew where the cat food was. She could’ve visited before easily, it’s just that she looked all around for pet food.

Your coverage of this story was so much more entertaining than the video I saw on it previously! And I am not being critical of the other creator's work on this story -- it was very good. But Mr. Ballen has the most entertaining and attractive voice out of everyone who covers true crime or science fiction stories. The only irrational fear I picked up was my weapons not being where they were supposed to be after that serial killer episode that would target, stalk and break in before the murders to unload guns and move other weapons. Now I check to see if my bed knives are in place and not tampered with every night before bed.

Wow, this story had me guessing until the end, when my mouth was like this 😮as I gasped. It’s so unbelievable, especially the reaction from the public. It just goes to show that being physically attractive gives you all kinds of advantages, including people adoring you even though you’re a deranged murderer.

Mr Ballen and the Why Files are pretty much all I watch consistently on you tube now. Both brilliant story tellers but different types of stories.

11:15 what’s crazy is that I watched this video around a month after it came out and have been a fan ever since. Time flies by so fast!!

I only found MrBallen about 2 and a half months ago, and already a big fan and lots of binge watching videos of the strange, dark, and mysterious. and "strangely" I found MrBallen just before starting a channel about real life stories about heroes. John totally confirmed that it might be a good idea to give it a try.

We always worry about the pets! I wondered if Moon adopted them! 🐕 🐈

I thought of the Bedtime Stories video about the Skinwalker Ranch as soon as Mr. Ballen mentioned the ranch. (Their video about the ghosts at Kedena Air Base, Okinawa, was special to me because I went to nursery school there in 1958-1959 -- before the murders that started the haunting, though.)

Wow I just watched a video from three years ago and it was still awesome but wow Mr Ballen you have come a long way in your story telling you are the bomb. I love listening to these stories and you have the perfect storytelling voice and way of doing it and always been good but I can just see how much you have transformed from 3 years ago. You rock love your channel!

I found this channel at one of my lowest points and as silly as it sounds your uploads are one of the things that's ha e like kept me going and hearing your story also encouraged me to get help. Thank you for all you do and all your crew does as well ❤

I wasn't actually leaving because of how bad my depression had been, and looking forward to something I was able to get enjoyment out of benefitted me. Sorry that you have this wonderful life that's been so easy but not everyone has that and telling someone that the work they do is so good and wonderful that it makes you look forward to it when not much gets you feeling that way anymore seems like a normal ass comment to me. The accounts are often plain first names with a number. This comment comes up for one becaus people love this channel and the man who runs it. Second these comments are due to Mr.ballens personal story and his issues dealing with mental health. He promoted better health for a very long time by using his own real story and unique style to share very personal life issues to his audience. A lot of people resonated with that which has been stated and appreciated by mr.ballen himself many times. I'd ask you why someone giving thanks for helping them through rough times is fake to you? Maybe you've had an easy go in life or your just ignorant to the real world. Often times it can be as simple as saying hello and how are you to someone struggling to help them get through the day. Your looking in the wrong comment section for bots and your bot detector is trash.

As far as the Skinwalker Ranch shoutout, my mom grew up 30 minutes from the ranch, and it was crazy where she was too. She and members of her family saw UFO’s, which was the least creepy things that went on there.

As far as I know, the stories that Mr Ballen tells actually happened. This is not a Christmas horror story from the pen of a Hollywood film scriptwriter. This is reality. Two people really have been cruelly murdered. And the young woman was lucky that she didn't become the next murder victim.

I love the way the guy doing Bedtime Stories breaks a sentence in two and ends the first part on a high note, takes a beat, then winds down the second part. "that's franKLY" takes a beat "Bizarre.

You should check out Dark Asia with Megan, she's great, I think you'd like her. The video she did on Ouji boards for Halloween was interesting. Grazy TV does a lot of asian stories too and some are pretty wild... like the serial killer who pretended to be a shaman and tricked girls into paying him $300 dollars(in us dollars) only to murder them. 40+ victims.

​​​​@@derekj7352Rotten Mango does pretty lengthy videos and shows a lot of empathy. It's an entire different method of story telling. Both are great for their own reasons but you can't really compare short videos to long. Also she's never made me terrified to sleep. MrBallen has that crown. 😅 I recommend you check out MrBallen's "This box will KILL you," "Palmyra Wolves," "Valley of the Headless," "If you hear a bell ringing RUN," and "Boy in cabin terrified" for my personal favorites of his. His 411 series is good too. About people going missing. Mango does nothing like these. Her 6 firefighters died video was heart wrenching af, cried a few times. My favorite of hers is the 1 where the husband whispers "go die" as he pushes his wife off a cliff. The bit at the end made me tear up. She's good, but it's like comparing apples and oranges.

​@derekj7352 rotten mango does a fantastic job with longform true crime stories, and i learn so much about countries i never would have otherwise. however, you can't compare the 2 channels at all. while they may have overlapping audience, their niches aren't exactly the same; apples v. oranges

Finally a comment about the video's content itself rather than seeing the endless list of seemingly bot-like generic praise comments. Don't get me wrong, I love this channel and how he tells stories, but it seems like a rarity to see people actually discuss the content in the video. Moon's lucky she didn't become his third murder victim though.
