    If you have no major nasal trauma listen to this guy. Many ENTs try to sell and market a septoplasty and turbinate reduction combo. Don't be fooled or worse being persuaded into having a unnecessary nasal surgery leading to severe complications that are not discussed.

    Even if you do have trauma, the septum would get scrunched up at most, not a left/right deviation... High palate is therefore likely the cause

Fast forward 2 years later I still have an issue where when I chew or lift weights my left ear will get slightly deaf until if I'm done and it settles down. My Dr wants me to get a deviated septum surgery but I know that's not right. It feels like my eustachian tube just isn't working properly. If you have a deviated septum your upper jaw is most likely underdeveloped and your pallete grew up instead of laterally and that is why. So yes - if you have a deviated septum you are most likely having problems but making it straight won't help a lot.

    @@grzegorz16100 if its over 50% deviated and your turbinates are large (usually the inferior), I'd say do very conservative procedures for turbinate reduction first, for which if that works out fine, don't bother getting the septum restructured. I had septoplasty and turbinate submucosal resectioning, and I would say the recovery is worst for the septum repair job. I have pain in my top teeth, numbness as well, numbness in my top lip and the whole of my nose. I also feel like I can't smell as well as normal and I can't sense air very well ATM either. Its only been 30 days but I've had no change in symptoms from my septum at least, which is making me start to think maybe I'll always have some numbness and weird pain around my mouth and nose. Fix gut issues and use a HEPA filter if environment is a factor. If you do not have facial trauma or born with an abnormally deviated septum don't fall into the sales pitch of getting your septum or turbinates reduced. Won't solve the main cause of your health problems and most likely cause other issues.

    @DoubtingThomas333

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@juliemay9295 maybe just a septoplasty would be worthwhile, only if its bad enough though. You should do saline rinses 3x a day minimum, use vitamin e nasal spray, camphor and eucalyptus with vitamin e nasal spray. Also a daily antihistamine tablet, or antihistamine nasal spray if you prefer. Using cpap humidification helps also. All of these things will help reduce the swelling of the turbinate mucosa tissue. BTW if your AHI's look okay, but you're still feeling unwell, get another sleep study. Consider asking a sleep specialist if they're willing to test you for narcolepsy. There may be a whole bunch of differential diagnosis that needs done, before saying it's all because of sleep apnoea. Consider the use of provigil/nuvigil if everything checks out as okay. It can really help people like you. I've had sleep apnoea all my life BTW.

    Ever since I had bone loss in my jaw due to an autoimmune disease my nasal symptoms have gotten worse each year. It seems as if this has gradually caused the structures inside my nose to collapse. What do you think can be done to correct that problem? I was told by an ENT that I have a pretty badly deviated septum. I used to just have nasal congestion when first waking up in the morning but now my face hurts most of the day and the congestion doesn't ever fully clear. Is there another procedure to fix this other than regular septum surgery? Me and my doctors are having quite a hard time figuring this out. I want to find the best option and solve the whole problem if possible in case there are several factors involved.

    He said symptoms were from a combination of factors, one of which is a deviated septum. It could very well be that alleviating one of the factors is enough to pass a threshold that feels asymptomatic for people who’ve had a DS their whole life. But it’s better to holistically understand problems so that you may find many solutions or even further optimize. You might be allergic to things around you like pollen for example, and fixing your DS could be one step towards actually clearing up your breathing long term.

    Yeah, it's called see a REAL ENT, have him/her diagnose the problem to learn if you are a candidate for surgery & if so, have it done. I had so many sinus infections prior to my surgery some 20+yrs ago I had become immune to many reg & high-dose antibiotics. Afterwards, I could breath & within 10yrs I was no longer immune to high-dose & 10yrs later I can take standard antibiotics depending on infection w/o fear of maxing out where no AB will work. My surgery was worth it, I'd do it again.

    My grandpa, dad, and I have pretty bad deviated septem. I find it very hard to breath and 24/7 my nose and throat are full of mucus. I can't sleep or even smell near as well as I could years ago. I have to lay on my back just so I can breathe a little better. Nasal sprays don't work. Nothing else I've tried does but I'm afraid to get a surgery because people say all it does is make your face ache and fill your nose with blood. What can I do to help?

    @@jokerios9460 if you have a minor deviation... Don't have your septum straightened. If you want to deal with your turbinates... Just a submucosal reduction... Whatever is the more medically evidenced technique for the best way to go about reducing your inferior turbinates. It's almost been 2 years now, and my nose is still great. The pain from surgery is meh... Maybe a week or so of deep face pain, but if you take round the clock paracetamol, you'll be fine.

    @moonglow38 tt would be because in their cases it was the cause of breating obstruction,not in every case wich is wat tis doc is saying.Also,bear in mind thtat some nose ops invilve widening the internal nasal valve with grafts

    @trwilli24 not gonna lie. 1st 2 days no problem, still high. I had my Tramadol (painkillers & serotonin release agent - think E), Diplofenac (anti-inflammatory) and Co-Dydramol (Codein painkillers). I kept knocking myself out on Tramadol - fun! Eating and drinking water then got progressively harder. I'd cut out the drugs by the end-of-the-week though I should have kept on the Diplofenac - that was my mistake. (My mum explnd it better). I'm 33 - 2to3 weeks sort of. You still recover after ths

    +Vivian Castro Wow. Shit. Sorry to hear that. I just talked to a woman who forgot her pin number after surgery and believes it was the anesthesia. I believe you. How are you doing now? I didn't do well with anesthesia, either---my main problem is that a week after the surgery, I'm still all congested. How long before you could breathe?

    My left nostril feels weird, but only when I'm conscious of it, or when I get cold, allergies, ect. As with most people, checked out the doctor who said it was severe. He literally told me to wait until I get into a more important accident to fix it, otherwise it's a waste of money lol. man I could start a long rant on healthcare... I wonder if this may be the cause of more high-pitched voice?

    I have a deviated septum... and thats why I can't breath. My scans of the inside of my passageways look like a "Z". I would have a hard time believing the "doctor" could honestly tell me that my deviated septum has nothing to do with my breathing.

    I've had a severely deviated septum for a decade. So bad that you can see my septum by looking up my left nostril. I don't have any congestion but when I get sinusitis it takes me a month to recover. 2 weeks of Augmentin followed by 2 weeks of Avalox with Hydromet Syrup and Vicodin PRN for crippling sinus pain. I'm just about to make the Avalox switch and I cannot stop the post nasal drip. Kill me please! J/K...

    K2 HBU In some case you need to work on nasal sept. Just in some case. Actually a lot of doctors work on a barely deviated nasal septum.
