    I've always thought that the Death Star(s) had some sort of capital-ship docking capability. After all, neither of them had actual sublight engines, only a hyperdrive. So I always thought they would get tugged/pushed into position by a compliment of ISDs. The orientation of the one in that shot from Rogue One (i.e - engines away from the station), would definitely support this idea. Similarly, I always thought the Stars had at least some sort of production capability, for both starfighters and larger ships.

    #AskEck I have a pretty unique suggestion for a ship for you to cover. The battleship Halberd form ssb/kirby. WAIT DON’T LEAVE JUST HEAR ME OUT. I find this ship to quite interesting. And surprisingly powerful. When you first look at the ship you see that it is completely COVERED in weapons. And upon further inspection you see that the weapons are pretty well placed and allow the weapons to focus their firepower on a target in front of it. And also has weapons facing backwards and side. The weapon placement provides full coverage. The ship has no blind spots. Speaking of weaponry, the guns are Very powerful and varied. We have seen the cannons fire flak shells, beams, and pulsed energy projectiles in the games and even managed to shoot down Dyna blade. Which we have seen tank multiple large explosions without any visible damage. It was also able to destroy three Destroyas, which have shields that could easily shrug off artillery powerful enough to knock a meteor off course. However the most impressive weapon in its arsenal is the Combo Cannon. It has both an extremely powerful superlaser, and a large cannon.kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIahrLhml5DZn5M.html The defensive feats are not AS impressive.(the ship has been destroyed multiple times). The is said to have a shield, but it is only mentioned and is never actually shown (make of that what you will). However the armor is extremely durable. It took three shots from a cannon that was physically larger than the ship itself. However its most impressive feature has to be its absurd speed and maneuverability:. Despite being a ~400 meter ship with a full crew it moves like a starfighter. The engines and hull are even powerful enough to ram another ship, as seen here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaJnpaOEia6YfJs.html Supa speed:kzread.info/dash/bejne/in98s7quiKieocY.html But who am I kidding this is a dumb suggestion right?

    1: If capital ships can make hyperspace jumps with fighters docked in their hangars, the Death Star should certainly be capable of the same even with Star Destroyers. 2: I don't feel that "indirect kills" should count for a pilot's total. Isn't taking down a Death Star enough of an achievement? :D 3: I could see the Death Star's massive hangars being able to repair and resupply capital ships, but building a whole vessel from scratch is probably outside the scope of the station. I'd actually be curious to know how self-sufficient the Death Star was intended to be. The amount of materials and components needed just to maintain the thing has to be absolutely staggering.

    No star destroyers at Yavin is one of those Fridge Logic things you don't think of until well after you watched the movie. It would have made sense for the Death Star to carry ISDs and deploy them to intercept rebel ships trying to escape Yavin... which, strangely, they didn't try to do. In real life, the explanation likely is that nobody thought of it, and they wouldn't have had the FX budget anyway. The best in-universe explanation that I can come up with is that the newly completed Death Star had yet to receive its full complement of ISDs, and the ones it did have were dispatched to Dantooine to deal with Princess Leia's fictional base.

  • @bogustoast22none25

    Not Eco but I can say covenant weaponry is deadlier. It goes onto detail on the books about how a single shot would burn through the armor and get the flesh inside. While SW blaster do this as well, we see how a shot to the arm, whole burning it, leaves it still in place and somewhat operational. In halo the plasma would burn your arm down to the bone, and it would fall off. Not to mention the splash damage that might catch others.

  • @tbotalpha8133

    @tbotalpha8133

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'd say Star Wars blasters, for a few reasons. Star Wars blaster bolts are more often depicted travelling faster than Halo plasma bolts. Halo plasma weaponry may be more destructive on a shot-for-shot basis, but their bolts' slow speed would make them inherently less accurate than a blaster. You can physically see a plasma bolt coming, and move to avoid it or duck behind cover. While blaster bolts - though not moving quite as fast as regular Earthly bullets - seem to move faster than any human could reasonably react to. Less accuracy = less reliability in landing one's shots. Less reliable hits = more wasted ammo, which adds up to a massive drain on military resources over time. Furthermore, Halo plasma weapons demand their users get very, very close to their targets before they can reliably hit anything. Within about 30-40 metres or so. An English war bow from the Middle Ages could shoot further than that. Meanwhile Earthly infantry rifles can hit and kill targets up to 500 metres away. Star Wars blasters seem to have comparable effective ranges, though we've never got definite numbers as far as I know. And Star Wars blasters don't seem to suffer from bullet-drop, which would only make them easier for infantry to aim effectively. Oh yes, and Star Wars blasters are more often depicted as having iron-sights or optics mounted on them, so the user could actually aim them accurately. Meanwhile, hardly any Covenant plasma weapons have iron sights, optics, or aiming assists of any kind. So a user of such weapons couldn't even reliably hit a stationary target with a single shot.

    It has at least one full drydock capable of full ship construction. It may also have what you mentioned, but I do think that was simply the rear view of a complete star destroyer. Examples of parts of star destroyers would be spare turbolasers and engines down to nuts and bolts, not an entire complete rear of a star destroyer. How often is there going to be a situation where you need to replace the entire rear of an ISD? Damage that catastrophic would blow the whole ship up.

    #AskEck This question ties in with the one from this episode. If Eta-2 starfighters are only piloted by jedi and not clones, why does a standard Venator carry around 192 of them, when they could just use about 10 Eta-2 and fill the space with ARC-170 or V-wings?

  • @Mirsellus

    @Mirsellus

    5 жыл бұрын

    That's so easy I'll do it... it takes about 191 destroyed ETA-2 for a Jedi commander to actually die. They are very good at surviving.

    I mean the star destroyer docking bay is where they build it, a star destroyer is the capital of the fleet. It is used as a vehicle, but also used as an office. The death star is more of a home however the star destroyer stays in space, it moves as the fleet moves, the tie fighters are made for transport but a star destroyer is used more as a captain.

    In The Force Unleashed videogame, the final stage takes place in the unfinished Death Star 1. As you walk from the entrance of one the hangars towards the inner sections, you can see plenty of star destroyers docked inside the station. They could be taking part in the construction process, or they could be actually stationed there.

    I always thought the sheer scale of the Death Star was a bit hard to swallow. A 120-km sphere would have an absolutely massive volume and mass, far more than would be required for housing a planet-killing weapon. Even cutting it down to 60km would still be utterly gargantuan, and I don't think even a mobile shipyard would be enough to justify that kind of size.

    If you look at the headsets you see jedi wearing when piloting both kinds of Jedi starfighter they wrap around the forehead. I remember reading somewhere that this was supposed to be an experimental neural interface that jedi were able to make work because they were force sensitive while "normal" pilots usually weren't. This allowed for much quicker reactions and more complex maneuvers than manual fighter controls would otherwise permit.

    Makes sense actually, "Battlesstation", not much of one if it's really just their verses version to an extremely odd an large shaped A-10 Warthog, an built around the main gun. A space station of THAT size should I'd imagine also be able to not only house huge ships like Star Destroyers but launch, fit, repair and perhaps even make them.. Thatd be disheartening to even a large Vong fleet.. moving in to attack the Death Star which only looks fairly unprotected and then suddenly parts open up an an Armada of large SDs sail out accompanied by swarms of TIEs and support ships of every type and size.. Thatd be pretty much EVERY other SW factions Worst nightmare case scenario. I believe Vong agents even hinted as much. An you had to know such scenarios kept Rebel Leadership awake at night for years

    Recently I have read a series of book by David Weber which explores the idea of massive, Death Star-esque battle stations. I would love to see you discuss more of Weber's work, especially in comparison to other fiction and writing. I feel that you would get a real kick out of his Honor Harrington series, especially with all of the detail he and the fans of the series go through to flesh out his work.

    when the death star goes into hyperspace all support ships including many star destroyers dock within the death stars shell therefore saving fuel and also allowing for huge assault on any target .repairs and arming can take place during transit and also allowing crews some rest and relaxation time with friends and family who lived and worked full time on the death star .

    Interesting. And honestly all of this would make sense. The Death stars were such massive bases that like Eck says, giving them docking/repair bays big enough for Star Destroyers makes sense. Besides, it would probably end up saving money and it's not like this wasn't already a massive drain on the economy. Might as well make the totally indestructible planet killing bases carry the defense fleet. Heck, if the Tarkin doctrine worked then they could keep the smaller ships docked there almost permanently and save money there as well as no one would dare oppose the Empire.

  • @fakshen1973
    @fakshen19735 жыл бұрын

    A space station of that size would probably require massive ships to ferry supplies and crew back and forth. You would probably want to carry around several large transport ships in case you have need of them for supplies, to transfer troops, to aid in a large scale evacuation from the Death Star or to the Death Star. It wouldn't be a large stretch to design into the Death Start the ability to provide hangars and docking for Star Destroyer sized ships.
