The Dead Sun Theory - Real Life Astrophysics and Minecraft

Ойындар

I have formed a theory about the composition and origins of the Minecraft solar system using basic astrophysics from observations of the night sky and knowledge of the real solar system. (p.s. Like any theory, this one has holes. Can you spot them?). There's also a FAQ below:
Q: Sun's don't turn into black dwarfs until after they explode. Wouldn't this wipe out all life?
A: Indeed it would. However it's entirely possible for life to arise AFTER the explosion. In this case, intelligent life would have millions or billions of years to respond to this threat.
Q: Doesn't the moon having phases negate your "second planet" theory?
A: No. It's always roughly opposite the sun. There can be slight variations in orbit that affect its lighting.
Q: Wouldn't the gravity of the sun crush anything in its atmosphere?
A: Conventionally, yes. But we're assuming that a civilization has the technology to store energy and ignite their home planet, so it stands to reason that they would have the technology to negate that gravity. Maybe that's why there is a huge void under the bedrock.
Q: You can't just blow up a planet and turn it into a sun.
A: That's not a question. Anyways, this society had millions of years to adapt to a fading sun. This would likely lead to a plethora of creative ways to store and utilize energy, and I'm sure that given a million years to figure it out, they would come up with a solution. Maybe they ignited the atmosphere. Maybe they stripped the crust and exposed the core. Maybe they pulled energy from another dimension. A dying star gives you a long time to figure things out.
Q: How do you transport an entire planet's worth of "stone, dirt, and life"
A: Again, this isn't a fast process. Multiple trips over a few million years gives you enough time to get things done.

    Villagers are what humans have evolved into after millions of years The player, being a normal human, could be another escaping human who was late to wake up from artificial sleep

  • @bennettd1209

    @bennettd1209

    4 жыл бұрын

    Or perhaps the humans decided to do one of two things: 1. In trying to erase the memories of destroying Earth and the horrors beforehand when the sun died out and everything got so horribly cold, they made themselves so dumb as to become relegated to farming, crafting, and bartering. The player was actually a hyper-intelligent scientist that got relegated to the level of the normal person during this time, but did manage to erase these memories, but also lost all of his knowledge of science, needing to learn everything anew. 2. The humans accidentally set the atmosphere on fire with a too-powerful nuke (see Because Science: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gHqeuLeMf9G2qtI.html). Those living on the now dead Sun decided to create genetic inhibitor devices that communicate with satellites (which are the stars), which can eradicate any thought that could cause the destruction of humanity, such as a nuclear event. However, upon activating the system, it eradicates far too many thoughts, and these humans are now stuck in state where they can think of little more than simple bartering, farming, crafting, and surviving. The species of players are those that decided to retain their knowledge, even after fierce persecution prior to the activation of the system. The satellites do interfere with the players' memories, but they still retain the full power of deductive logic and rational thought. Edit: Just realized - the satellites make more sense than the stars orbiting the Earth at the same rate as the moon and sun, because orbits don't work like that - geostationary orbits can only exist exactly along the equator. The satellites would have slight orbits (as well as a significant amount of propulsion), increasing to the geostationary orbits around the equator. The reason that slight orbits are necessary is so that, should one satellite fail and disappear from the night sky, the rest of the satellites can retain control. The more satellites in the orbit, the more necessary the protocol. Perhaps that is why the villagers now have the power to farm, barter, and craft, and the pillagers have the mental capacity to make tools and attack villages - it is all because certain rings of satellites are either less populated or missing entirely.

    Nice! But I'm not convinced that we can rule out the 'static sun and moon, revolving planet' option so quickly. We already know that gravity in MC doesn't work the way it does here: mobs, anvils, water, sand, etc. fall, but stone, dirt, glowstone, etc., don't. What if the moon is a large stone cube and sun a dense block of glowstone, and neither fall towards the earth because gravity doesn't affect those kinds of block?

    Really enjoyed that, but since you're looking for holes in your theory... The moon in Minecraft still has phases. It must therefore be lit by a different source, since a moon permanently opposite the sun from the user's perspective would always be lit from the same direction. In fact, in Minecraft even that wouldn't happen, since each is located 180 degrees from each other - the Minecraft world would shadow the moon in constant lunar eclipse.

    I love this theory so much. It's one of those kinds of theories where you can be near certain that it wasn't knowingly implemented by the creator, however it is very interesting. Well thought out, well explained. Personally I find this theory logical, and don't disagree with much of anything to do with it. Except for maybe the fact that the amount of dirt and stone on the host planet wouldn't cover the dead star... Anyway, semantics. I enjoyed the video a ton, thank you Spum.

    thats a good point. but what if we take the theroy a step further and assume there were once other planets and/or astroids? the civilization could dismantle them and use the resources to cover the surface of the dead sun. it would explain why there are no other heavenly bodies in the sky.

  • @Skozzy

    Skozzy M. I'm gonna agree with what some other people are saying and say that this dead sun is still hot on the inside like a coal on a grill. the outer crust has completly cooled into the layer of bedrock we know so well, and we find the Nether just below the bedrock were the sun is still partialy molten, and the various mobs found there are creatures that wandered in(or were deliberitly sent) through portals just like how the current inhabitents get there, and eventually evolved into the monsters we all know and loathe. As for the End, it COULD be an asteroid, but i don't think so. First of all, if it was it would be sorrunded by stars just like every other large object in minecraft space, and it isn't. also the enderman clearly need air to survive since they can sufficate just like everything else and they come from the End. unless that tiny floating rock is made of some REALLY dense stuff(and it isn't since we can mine it with an iron pick) it would have trouble holding an atmosphere in space. so i think the end is in fact a true alternate dimension that the people who made minearia found there way into. think about it, the portals to the end are all hidden inside some anceint riuned fortesses built by some long extinct reletivlly advanced civilization. the civilization that must have bulit minearia had to be VERY technologicly advanced(and even if only a small number of them survived they must have had at least a fraction of thier peoples' thecnology). creally a lot of time has passed since the creation of minearia(i mean those zombies and creepers didn't come from nowere) and yet no trace of either civilization is to be found and all technology available to us the Miners is extremely basic. AND if you look at other fictonally worlds were an ancient civilization poked its head int an alternate dimesion it NEVER ends well for them, and often thier world is left infested with what ever made its way through thier portals int thier world(hint endermen hint) which brings me to us, the Miners. in all likelyhood we Miners are either A) a couple of survivers from the falllen people who lost the technology and power we once had or B) we are a new sentient race that evolved on the surface of minearia of the undetermind span of time since minearia was created and our predesecers vanished. And if B) is true (and i think it most likely) then the Villagers could be the survivers of the fallen race. it would at least explain why they have those wierd noses and we don't if we were two differant spieces don't you think? This got kinda long huh? ^.^;

    the only scientifically possible scenario in this case is that the "earth" is in the centre of a giant dyson sphere, where the moon, sun and stars are actually plates on the inside of the sphere. see for the stars to remain completely stationary in relation to the sun and moon they would require the same orbits, as if they were further away they would appear to be moving slower, and if they were closer faster. just as how the iss orbits the earth once every 90 minutes or so, while the moon takes an entire month. the stars would additionally all have to be in the same orbital plane, as if they were not, they would either appear to be drifting up or down, meaning it would be like a ring, rather than the mess of stars all over the sky that we can observe. therefore the only logical conclusion i have arrived at is that the "earth" is in fact a spinning rock in the middle of a giant sphere

    This is just so epic to imagine! And it might make a good movie. And I take your theory one step further: Even though this advanced society had the technology to turn a neutron star into a habitable place and a planet into a sun, they probably died out at the time you enter a Minecraft world. You can see the ruins of their buildings in mineshafts, strongholds, nether fortresses and so on. All these are decayed when you find them. And as you can see for example at the nether fortresses, there once were more and larger buildings. And after you somehow get to this once habitated sun, you have to start from beginning (punshing trees, etc.), because the former habitats died out and most of their technology is destroyed. That would make an even better movie.

    Alternative theory, the sun is actually a white dwarf from a dead MSS star with mass < 8 solar masses. This death would produce a very small star which could then be captured by a planet with a high mass (ie the minecraft planet) this would then present where the white dwarf orbits in close proximity to the planet with the moon on the other side. As for the sphere of stars that may be explained by how a ppanetary nebula was formed by the shedding of the star's outer layers itself and new stars are formed from that gas abd dust which over time have nucleated and formed protostars, hence the spherical shape around the central star which is now captured in orbit.
