I'm 54 now and when I was 6 my dad helped me do the same and I can remember that day like it was yesterday the excitement and joy of seeing those chicks hatch was amazing.

I’m going really enjoy watching your journey. I live in a house but love the simplicity of van life-ing. I’m a mother of 4 and although 2 at university and the other 2 at home studying the dream to travel in a van isn’t still practical for us all yet.the idea of off grid is really appealing for me. I don’t have social media and this is my occasional hit so thank you for sharing x

It has its ups and downs as you will have seen 😆 Van life really appeals to us too, although we don’t feel it’s the right time for us either. Our children are too small and if we opened the van door they’d just disappear 😂 so for now we stick to being in one place ☺️

That brought back some great memories. Bring on the goats...

@@The_OffGridFamily Generally yes. They can be escape artists and have their moments, but they are fun and the milk is great. Enjoy the chicks.

We used to have ten hens and a cockerel - blimey we couldn’t keep up with the eggs lol. We’ve now got two girls and have just rescued a Serama Cockerel called Robert, who is hilarious. Our two grandchildren love him and love picking him up for cuddles. One of our neighbours is not keen - but they can always move I guess 🫣

That’s great news about the amount of eggs. We got 14 in the end, although we have no idea how many are hens 🙈 We might not be getting any eggs at all 😂

@@The_OffGridFamily I've decided to really double down and get saving, life isn't getting easier, and I'm looking at ireland to move to and start a whole new life, but getting chickens is such a mile stone, amd they are very productive, I have in my head chickens and a couple.of small pigs to do the donkey work of clearing and fertilising areas of land

That sounds really exciting. Wishing you all the best with your plans 👍 We were saying the other day that chickens bring so many benefits beyond the eggs and meat that they would surely be beneficial to anyone, even if they’re vegan or vegetarian 😊 We hope ours will have a really good life and in return provide us with lots of eggs! We are planning another video which will go into more detail about the process of incubation etc. Hopefully that will be useful 👍😊

Could you share how you found your plot? Is it as easy as just looking for land! I've googled till blue. It's always planning permission which means you can't live off grid😢 Google search isn't being honest I believe!! Happy Easter guys, owning chooks is ❤

From what we’ve heard you’re certainly not the only person struggling with this at the moment 😩 I’m afraid our answer isn’t very helpful, in that Fraser bought the land 17 years ago as a yard for his tree surgery business. It was in the local paper. We really hope you find something soon 🤞
