Something being a widely-recognized joke/reference doesn't make it a meme.

My favorite south park episodes have always been those that have as little to do with current news of that time as possible. Episodes like AWESOME-O or Casa Bonita will forever remain timeless classics to me. They haven't made a lot episodes like that in many years and I've lost my hope that they will.

@JTgutairlessons I think the earlier seasons focused a lot more on the world of South Park and not current events is because they had more to write about and it was a new show, they cleverly weaved in world events and didn’t just parody everything like they do now with minor story elements. I think the best of South Park are the episodes like casa Bonita and the creators have said that those are some of their favorites as well

My favourite episodes have always been the ones that send up childhood itself and have the kids in relatable yet exaggerated childhood things, the one where the girls have that future-telling device made of paper being a great example. But I can't deny that when South Park wants to do satire they do it very well.

Simpsons, family guy, and South Park are all redundant in my opinion. They all seem to revolve around one character like homer/Cartman/ and peter. I like the Simpsons more than these shows because at least they have some sort of take away. Honestly, I prefer rick and Morty more than these shows now.

I think South Park is definitely different now compared to how it was in older seasons, but it is still going strong!

Season 24, 25 & the paramount+ movies are definitely turning things back around, season 20-23 were for sure a dark peroid with a few highlights

Southpark used to be my favorite show hands down and now it feels like a chore when i watch it. I still hold on hope it will turn around but ive been waiting so long with no real signs of a come back that ive given up too many comedy central execs getting come on trey and matts back.

To be fair even if we're going by the real world definition of death, it is possible to be technically dead and then be brought back if done so fast enough. Though it absolutely got worse for a bit in my opinion it never got so bad as to be dead.

The Pandemic Special proved that South Park ain’t dead yet.

South Park is the only show that has managed to evolve with the times and keep itself fresh and relevant throughout is monumental run. I’m waiting with excitement for its new season. You’re tripping and the dislikes show that.

Yep the video has aged like fine wine, the show feels toothless now and without any edge to it. It's just "Haha look at these people taking things too far or seriously, Aren't we clever by mocking both sides" It outright feels hypocritical now, and the serialization makes jokes stick around for way too long.

They were going for similar level of incompetence, not similar temperament or personality. As with most of their choices, the intent was satirical: meant to make Trump voters look as dumb as possible.

South Park hasn't died, you just got older than the age of 12.

So Matt Stone and Trey Parker took a risk and it didn't pan out. That's the nature of risk taking. Kudos to them for giving the serialised format a go.

south park going from each episode being it's own story to a story being told over an entire season it really really hurt it for me. there was a huge drop in enjoyment for me. some of those seasons i still haven't watched because it's just not what i want from south park (or any of these cartoons like simpsons or bobs burgers for example).

“The Day X Died” is one of your biggest series so this video title makes sense. But maybe “The Day South Park ALMOST Died” would be more suiting, since you yourself said things got better with season 21.

nah, ever since season 15 south park has been getting worse, there's been great episodes in that period sure, but seasons 19 and over just seem to have been made for no reason - it seems like south park had run its course and they had nothing left to give, so made huge changes hoping to bring new life - instead seasons 19 and on just seem stale and far worse than the previous seasons. I'm not sad that south park is more or less over for me, i'm just happy that South Park seasons 1-18 ever happened.

Having 2 down rounds out of 21, and then recovering for the 22nd isn't dying. That is greatest of all time territory. Like if this was a sports team, there would be no comparison, cause no one is this dominant. They have a better season success rate than the Simpsons, family Guy, pretty much any show that ran over 10 years.

I don't think the show died at all. I just think people normally watch a show like south park to escape the negativity of real life. That said, when there's a season dedicated to referencing politics, the SJW agenda, trolls, etc. I think a lot more people are going to tune out.

Honestly, it declined from 2012-2015 or 2016, since then they figured out how to do bigger storylines and the show has flourished like it hasn’t in a decade. Season 22 was one of my favorites.

Idk, it's in the same boat for me. I find it hard to laugh at and it just turn it on then forget everything I saw. Maybe a chuckle or two, but never really the kind of hilarity it once had.

Matt and Trey said they wanted to try something different that's all. They said in an interview that theyre bored with south park and are going to quit when they're 50. So before they leave they're gonna try different things out.

Having a bad season doesn't mean South Park died. Its still hilarious and fresh to this day.

Southpark is not dead...the Simpsons is dead but people still look forward to the new seasons of southpark and it dosent feel like watered down garbage....there still able to make unique storylines and episodes.....

Simpsons in its prime was great original animation style was unique for the time. The show still deserves some love just not for modern episodes.

Simpsons isn't dead, it's the fact that their style has been copied by EVERY other show since the late 90s, so The Simpsons seems stale because we see their style all over the place. Everyone says they died after season 10, but that's the same time Family Guy, Futurama, and shows like South Park came around. Think about it. If you were the first one to do something, then everyone copied you... Your style wouldn't be unique anymore, and that's exactly what happened to The Simpsons.

By your own standards, saying it's dead isn't accurate. It just hit a rough patch and bounced back.

You should re-title this episode The Day My Likes to Dislikes Ratio Died.

South Park had a magic, but now it feels just like the Simpsons with plots and twists that don't make sense.

Personally. I think Southpark had gotten better throughout the years. Simpsons and Family Guy are dead. Like... dead dead.

I always thought that they should have just split from reality and wrote whatever they wanted to write about how the election unfolded. No one actually depends on South Park correctly mirroring current events.

wow i don't get why so many dislikes when it makes sense. I couldn't enjoy seasons 20-23 as much as I enjoyed the past seasons but I didn't know why, now this makes sense.

I love any episode where Randy Marsh is the focus.

I grew up watching South Park, started in 1st or second grade. I’m 30 now and it’s awesome because when I was growing up the boys were hilarious to me (still are) and now that I’m older randy is my favorite character.

The ones where he and Stan build the little car, and where he gets cancer on purpose, and where he is a female singer in his free time are the best.

I enjoy Season 20 a lot, but it definitely has issues and I can see why others don’t like it. However, one ‘bad’ season in an over twenty-year run is incredible.

Yeah, I think as a general rule we should forgive one bad season for any series that’s been consistently great for 20 years, so if South Park makes it to 40 seasons, they can have another weaker season if they want too. 🤣

personally i didn't enjoy season 20 but i applaud them for trying something new with the serialized stories even after 20 ears

It died for me the day PC Principal showed up

For me it was around s17 - 18, when the episodes went from being standalone stories to season long story arcs, it told a story that in earlier seasons woulda been 1 or 2 episodes and spread em across an entire series like every other tv series.

South park is one of the most valuable IPS available. And they're still going strong.

South Park is not a fictitious town. It is an actual small mountain town outside of Denver that is pretty similar to how it's depicted on the show.

I don't think they swung too far to either side. They made some way more subtle mistakes that have more to do with the complexity of the process of serialized writing and they lost their thread. The end of Season 20 is, in my opinion, so bad that leftists may claim it's bad because it's too far right and vice versa. But, in reality, they did not have a problem with any of the political sides, but with South Park itself.

It is a contradictory conclusion to the title. He acknowledges the show realizing Season 20 was handled poorly by the end and the effects it had on Season 21, but that's really all it is. It didn't die, it just took a big hit and took a while to recover. However, Mr. Garrison/Trump still exists and the show doesn't really know what to do with him aside from just omitting him from the Season. He can return later on if Trump doesn't get reelected, but honestly it's not an easy prediction. If there were people who were all for Trump before, they'd probably be at it again. :)

@@redthunder9055 If he's a character in the show he's relevant. Plus he's considered a main character according to Google. He has a story like all the other kids and, like all the other kids, has some family problems/a not normal family. He isn't just a side character, he has his own personality you just have to pay close attention and watch multiple episodes to see it. At first you don't understand what he's saying and he's just kind of there, once you understand what he's saying and what his life's like his character isn't the same anymore and you can see who he is.

ngl i’m just getting into the show this year and now i’m a sp fanatic so idk i personally don’t think the show is quite dying yet

Man in the Moon did you even watch the season? It’s obvious you didn’t. They ripped on both of them hard. They made Hilary look like a bot that couldn’t say the right thing even when it was served on a platter for her. And they didn’t have her winning. They stated that they had 2 episodes ready for the eventual results of either of them winning.

I wouldn’t call south park dead now but it certainly hasn’t been the same since chef died

As a long time fan of the show, I really appreciate how South Park has been trying new things in the last several years. Not everything has worked perfectly, but they’ve still been great and I can appreciate them trying different things with the show

They're trying new things because they are desperate. They have no stories to tell anymore that are just about the boys, so they must rely on current events. The fact that Matt and Trey are willing to move the show into Zombie Simpsons territory, instead of bowing out gracefully, is very sad. I definitely lost some of my respect for them.

Trey and Matt are multi millionaires at least. Show has been running for almost 30 years to the point of them being to big to fail. Experimentation is an allowance and a luxury they can afford and I wouldnt be mad.

Seasons 20-21 were a bit bumpy, but the show is far from dead.
