THE DAY I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF | The Next Chapter in Life

As I stand here amidst the lush greenery of our homestead, I can't help but feel a whirlwind of emotions swirling within me. You see, after years of dedication and hard work in the corporate world, I've reached a pivotal moment: retirement.
It's a decision that's been brewing for some time, yet as the reality sets in, I find myself oscillating between excitement and apprehension. Leaving behind the familiar routine and security of my career is daunting, to say the least. But deep down, I know it's the right step for me, for us. And as I look ahead, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to pursue these dreams alongside Todd, my steadfast partner in this journey. Together, we'll cultivate not just crops but a life rich in meaning and connection.
So yes, there are butterflies fluttering in my stomach, uncertainties lingering in the air. But beneath it all, there's a profound sense of excitement, of anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead. And with each potato planted and each plan hatched, I'm reminded that this retirement isn't just an end-it's a beginning, a chance to write the next beautiful chapter in the story of our lives ♥

So happy for you. I worked 45 years in healthcare and I have to say I felt the same way, I really wanted to just stay at home with my children. Sometimes life just dictates our directions. I am now retired and am raising 2 grandsons which I love, I garden, can, cook and I like all that. Your days will fill up without you realizing it, you will love it. Congratulations.

I remember a year to 2 years ago you were having a tough time. We don't know what was causing it but we (viewers) were so concerned because you're emotions are easy to read. Fast forward to today & you look so darn happy! And deservedly so. Retirement is so great. You said you don't know what you're going to do with yourself but trust me. You're going to be so busy. You don't look 55 so you must be retiring early. How nice. Hopefully, Todd isn't far behind. We are so happy for you!

It never occurred to me that other woman would think like I do. For years I was a stay at home mom and then I went back into the workforce. My husband is older than I am and he is gearing up for retirement. My heart so desires to actually be a house WIFE. I never really truly understood what that was about until recently when it has been put into my heart. In a sense I want to make sure he has the best retirement possible. I want to be by his side and enjoy life together. Thank you Rachel for showing me I'm not alone in this way of traditional thinking.

Racheal, when COVID hit & I was furloughed from a position which I’d held for 40 years. Over those few months of being home, I loved just being here to take care of the house, cook meals, etc. it really gave me insight to what retirement would be for me & I could not wait for that time to arrive. After being called back to work, it was perfect timing to pull the trigger! Within a few short months, I turned 65, had then completed 41 years & made the joyful decision to retire. Yes, it is scary but not for long! I do not miss waking up @ 530am for that job! So, congratulations & enjoy your well deserved retirement!

Such wonderful news! Retirement is such a gift and I’m sure both of you will thrive. As to having lots of free time, be careful what you wish for…that free time is filled VERY quickly! My story is somewhat like yours, in that my professional life walked side by side with my family life. Raising kids while teaching full time was a stretch, especially since my passion for teaching and desire to always be there with and for our children weren’t always compatible. But the story of your children’s’ successes shows you found the balance. Now you and Todd can explore this new chapter in your lives with joy and eager anticipation. I am so happy for you!

I used to want to be a vet, even went through one year of school but then I met God and God changed my heart and made me want to be a stay at home mom. It’s biblical for women to be at home and men work outside, Titus 2 states so. It’s unfortunate that these days that COL is so high that both mom and dad have to work.

I so can understand. I like you spent 25 years as a wife, then stay at home mom. Went through a divorce when my youngest was 15 and just needed a job. I had never worked other than in high school and although I had a college degree, didn't feel like that was where I was supposed to work. God provided mightily and although I only work part time, it has kept the kids and I fed and taken care of. I love my job and the people I work with BUT I have so many hobbies and aspirations from gardening to crafting, baking and sewing, building stuff that I just don't have enough hours in the day to get everything done. I too am a dreamer and dream of a small homestead where I can put my knowledge of gardening and the like to use more efficiently. However, I don't see myself retiring any time in the near future. I have two special needs children who will forever be dependent on me to some degree and since they can't really contribute financially, it's up to me. I thank God daily for his blessings and just try to do the best I can at everything I touch. I know that one day, I may be able to fulfill that dream if I continue to be frugal. Thanks for sharing your story.

When I started watching your videos about 2 years ago I adopted you in my heart as my "aunt Rachel" and you're usually the first place I go to find gardening or canning answers and inspiration. Your heart for your family and doing the homesteading life is so inspiring! God is using you in so many amazing ways, and now He gets to do even more blessing through you! Rachel, this video brought me to tears of joy for you. I wish the world valued women who just want to love and minister to the hearts of their husbands and children. I totally understand! Nothing (and I’ve had a meaningful career that meant so much to me, ever compared to the years I stayed home with my children and the joy I have of working beside (from home) my husband and caring for him. We run our business from home so that I can be here and care for our home and my husband! We have figured out a way to run the business (no more employees, subcontracting certain aspects, etc.) so it doesn’t occupy too much of my time and energy, what I used to do in 40-50 hours a week, I can now do in 5-10 hours a week! Ministering to my loved ones is my most important priority!

Congrats Rachel on your retirement, a great new adventure awaits you, which is now time to enjoy what you want to do & spend time with Todd, I am so happy for both of you , thank you so much for always sharing your projects with us all, you inspire me with my 12 raised beds for veggies at my home in the burbs, my garden overflows with activity of bees birds & little animals that gives me a lot of joy! lots of hugs!

I too find great joy in taking care of my husband. That part of your video absolutely resonated with me. I commend you for it, and wish you much happiness going forward in the next phase of your life. It isn’t as long as you think, so make every minute count!

Congrats! Hoping one of your plans is to do a private group so we can go more in depth on topics. You are one of my favorites to learn from.

I couldn't be happier to listen to your story. You were the one who inspired me to start canning, and originally planted seeds of wanting to garden/homestead, and now I'm working on it. I've watched your old video about your property so many times, and just so good to hear about these aspects with debt, career, etc. Thanks very much and congratulations again. Farm stand is a big yay too!
