Don't apologize for "forgetting to film" most of dinner. You were doing exactly what you should have been doing. You were 100% present while in the company of your host during that once in a lifetime opportunity. You filmed during the business portion of the meeting and enjoyed yourself the rest of the time.

What I admire most about Chef Pepin is that with his career and experience, he could have easily opened multiple Michelin starred restaurants and be an absurdly wealthy man. Yet instead he decided to do cooking shows on PBS, showing the average person that cooking delicious food isn't as hard and inaccessible as it seems. Some of my fondest memories when I was young is waking up Sunday morning and watching the PBS cooking shows with my parents. Watching the legends like Jacque Pepin, Martin Yan, and Julia Child.

I was lucky enough to study under Chef Jacques Pepin at FCI in NYC. He judged my final exam and critiqued it...then Handed me my diploma the next day. 2 Years later I was hired as the Liason for FCI and the pleasure of working with him and all of the world class Chefs that were the Deans at that time. What an Iconic human being and nothing but pure love and positivity. A period of my life I will never forget.

I had the great good fortune to meet Jaques Pepin when I worked at Piret’s in San Diego, many, many years ago. He had taught a class in the cooking school side of the restaurant, and when the class was over he joined us in the kitchen and taught us all as if we were his friends. I learned many things from him that day, graciousness and kindness being as important as the culinary wisdom he shared so freely. A truly great person!

Alex, I think this might be my favorite YT video ever. I am so happy you got this opportunity...but also not terribly surprised, just knowing what a good guy Jacques is. Not just the greatest living chef, but one of the best all-around people, too. You got to play boules with the man, received a personal cooking lesson, got to watch Jacques cook all day, and were invited to stay for dinner with Claudine and Rollie and the family. What an amazing experience -- ty to Jacques, and ty for sharing.

The thing that's always struck me most about Jacques Pépin is how wholesome, nice, and funny he is, and how delighted he is to share his culinary knowledge with everyone. His shows were always my favorite cooking shows when I was growing up, and they .... well, I'm also a fan of Alton Brown thanks to his offbeat and highly entertaining style, but Mr. Pépin will always hold a very fond place in my heart -- and so will you, because I've had as much joy watching your videos over the years, for much the same reasons I adore Mr. Pépin and his work.

I wish my grandma had lived to see this. She died at 99, a Frenchwoman of countryside descent, a survivor of German occupied France in WW2 who remembered living in poverty because her family had to give so much of their produce and livestock to the Nazis, a lover of flowers and birds, and a home-cook who loved Jacques Pepin. She fed me nearly to death growing up, and even until her end she kept cooking wonderful meals for me. I showed her Alex at some point, and she was delighted (momentarily, it was hard to keep her attention on one thing by then). I think seeing this would have been very moving for her, to know that the new generation has not entirely forgotten the old

Hey we are French, we have to keep the cooking technique, it's part of what make a french french in my opinion. I know that some of the younger generation don't took the time to cook well, but i would say that most people around me (i'm 33 years old) know how to cook. Of course they are not a chef but cooking is an important part of your life. When you meet your friend, it's generaly when you try to make a good meal, to upgrade your cooking talent, to bring happiness to the people who are coming to your table. And since they will spend hours eating with you (we take time to eat in France for the one who don't know), you better make them happy with a nice meal. I think that a nice meal is what bring people together. It's generaly the best moment of the day to me, the time when all the family reunite for one meal, when everyone can share the passion put by the cook into one dish.

Oh, I love Jacques Pepin!! To hear him say that more technically trained chefs might produce relatively lousy food, while some home cooks who are less technical may have a better palette was an absolute revelation from someone at his level!!! ❤❤❤ And how forgiving he is that he "sometimes" cooks it more creamy - but it's a matter of the cook's taste. What a wonderful person he is, to be at his level and still recognize that his opinions on food may not be the pinnacle. Just phenomenal.

The cross over between Jacques Pepin, a man and chef I've been looking up to and watching my entire life, and you Alex, someone I've been rooting for and watching grow over your years on KZread. It's honestly almost surreal. And it makes me so happy to see Jacques still so full of energy and passion for life and food. Thank you to you and Jacques (and his team) for making this happen. At 53, I have to say Jacques was the chef that impressed on me most as a child. Watching him on tv with my mother he was inspiring me to take up cooking as an art form like painting, but the benefits of the finished art project filled your tummy in the end. I have been cooking all my life now because of icons like him. Life's greatest moments are when one creates great food to share with loved ones.

I've learned so much from watching Jacques Pepin on PBS, and from your channel as well. He's always seemed extremely down to earth and excited to share with you what he's learned about making good food. A quality I think you share with this legendary man. It's just awesome to see you both meeting together! Congratulations! What an honor!

To say that I am jealous of you would be an understatement. He is a national treasure as much as Julia Child. I feel he is the consummate culinary teacher and am very pleased to see how generous he was with you.

Same here. Maybe its the French connection; Julia Child studied in the Cordon Bleu when she was at the OSS. Alex is speaks French and maybe Alex is Belgian. But Kudos, nevertheless because the education with the master is priceless. Alex make sure, you don't get to be forgetful when you grow old. Jacques had a stroke a couple of years back and he is just as eloquent and patient teacher.

I'm English, but somewhere in my youth in the 1980s I came across a book by Julia Child and her cooking on a Boston TV station (quite an obscure book in the UK), and I was fascinated. The connection between Jacques Pépin and JC was something that evaded me for some decades, until the internet, and specifically Alex, arrived. Jacques' technique for omelette has intrigued me ever since.

Many years ago when I was trying to better myself at cooking, I came across jacque pepin’s videos. The way he tried to constantly reiterate basic techniques and explain why he does something in all his videos was how I quickly learned. Jacque is not only an amazing chef, he is also a wonderful mentor. Not only did he taught me how to cook, he taught me what it is to be a gentleman. I can only aspire to live a life as full as his. I cant imagine how lovely it must have been to be learning how to cook and having dinner with Pepin!

I was so emotional watching this! I used to watch Julia and Chef Pépin cooking together. They both cooked with love, but Julia was a home chef and Jacques was a professional chef. The way they respectfully disagreed with each other was legendary. It was a gift to watch them cook together. I loved the he continued to cook from home during Covid. I looked forward to his videos. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Your omelette challenge was the first video of yours i saw and inspired me to make my first omelette at age 43, ive been making them every other lunch time since. Super creamy cheese 3egg french style, you even showed me how to get the demi-lune serving technique down patt! So glad you met such an icon, perhaps a few chefs will track you down over the next few decades and recount how you inspired them!

Im following Alex for years now. Everytime he uploads a video i get excited and i safe it for a couple of days when i have to, so im able to watch it in complete silence and peace after some very productive days. In the best case scenario im even able to cook something i love for me and my family and eat it while im watching Alex´s video . For me Alex has become what Jacques Pépin is for him. I just cant describe it but there is no other content creator that gives me this feeling. The amount of love that goes into this videos and food is just one of a kind. Thank you so much Alex for everything you do for us. So much work and you still keep going like it´s your first day.

Jacques Pepin is one of my favorite chefs. I’ve been watching him cook for years on PBS since the Julia Child days. He’s right on the account that some home cooks are sometimes better than the trained chef. I believe my Mom was definitely the best home cook. Everything she made was cooked to perfection topped with a big dollop of love. I’m so very envious of you to have met Chef Pepin but, Thank you for sharing with us a glimpse of your wonderful meeting with him. Amazing Video..
