I dont think the game is dead. People still play it and it still has a big playerbase (that's going off the trueachievements gameplay charts, which track Xbox players. Compared to other *shooter* titles Halo Infinite is actually doing solid). I think there's 2 things to say about it. 1. The dev team, 343, for whatever reason, don't seem able to consistently introduce content into the game despite the tools for it being literally in the game itself. Basically maps and modes. I know Forge isn't officially released yet, but it's obviously more powerful than any other version and you can make practically any game type. One of the devs literally showed off a working Juggernaut. For some reason, 343 just don't seem able to dedicate workers toward this, or toward more significant content like true PvE modes (i.e., Firefight) or something like Warzone, or new features. E.g., we dont have a Spartan Ops in Halo Infinite, despite the fact that the multiplayer is supposed to be a story and player Spartans are characters in it. 2. If we're being honest, the base game and mechanics are solid, and most of the maps are decent. The BR kills in 4 shots, the power weapons work, the abilities have their niche and tip the scales, the weapon sandbox is fairly balanced and no 2 weapons are alike, customization is fair enough and you can stand out, vehicles aren't overpowered etc. . I think a lot of people's problem with *playing* the game is just that it's not really their type, and most people mistake this for thinking the game itself is bad. Games with niche/atypical gameplay styles, themes and mechanics suffer from this a lot. I've seen people play Hell Let Loose, have a bad experience, and say the game is bad.

Infinite is one for the books. A failure 6 years in the making

I feel you bro. I grew up loving Halo for what it is. When everyone was saying play COD or BF, I chose Halo and Xbox because who fucking cares lol. I love that futuristic shit. Until it got mutilated. Every since ODST came out, shit sank below. I got the original right before my birthday, it was a gift from my dad ( R.I.P ) and it's been such a memorable game for me because of him.

What makes me most sad about Infinite underdelivering is the fact that it was a staple of my childhood. Not just Halo, but BF and COD just aren't the same. I miss what I had, and maybe that's a mix of life and nostalgia, we'll never get that feeling of Halo 3 customs with the boys again. I had really hoped for so much with Infinite. It stings to see it have the signs of something amazing and still fail.

At least Call of Duty releases finished games with campaign, multiplayer (with a full progression system, around 20 maps, and customization aspects) as well as a tertiary mode like zombies, coming out bug tested and has 6 seasons each year with each season being a full 100 tier with multiple new maps, modes, weapons, and skins (though their monetization of the weapons and skins pisses me off to no end.) Whether people enjoy that material is a different matter, but at least it’s there; and when they say something will be in the game, it’s going to be there. They don’t lie and release unfinished beta products missing massive parts. It’s crazy to me that the fucking COD franchise has more dignity and respect than Halo and Battlefield does now. It genuinely depresses me to say that. Halo and Battlefield used to be more “dignified” as a franchise. But even if one studio released their COD game, that’s one every 3 years that’s complete at launch. Way more than 343 or DICE has achieved (lately.) Puts a bad taste in my mouth thinking about what gaming has become.

Halo has been my favorite game since I was 6 or 7. It’s sad watching the game that I grew up with slowly fall…. It’s like watching your friend slowly go deeper into into something horrible….. Edit: I’m praying that Bonnie leaving is a very good thing. If I have a kid I want to give them the new Halo as their fist game. That what my brother did to me.

So true not just about Halo but nearly all mainstream gaming industrie.

It is legitimately depressing. I spent the best years of my teenage and early adult life obsessed with Halo, and to see where it's gone has been a bummer. I still enjoy a few rounds of MCC now and then, but ultimately I've gone off to play other games to save on the distress of hearing all the constant bad news over Infinite and 343. Sea of thieves is fun.

The Coalition is basically another 343 in how they are forcibly creating these subpar inferior dev teams and expect them to makes games for a franchise full of devs not passionate or random contractors. I'm not a fanboy and I'm not even proposing for Sony to buy Halo or something stupid like that. I oppose exclusivity, considering all consoles today are lacking. A proposal that can involve Halo being public domain. Fans are entitled to that. I'm tired of rich companies ruining shit.

Y'know, as depressing as it feels to be a halo fan right now, there's always a sliver of unbeatable hope for me. Halo has survived for over 20 years, and it's obvious halo *can* still hold itself up in this modern market if done correctly. It would be really, really, really hard to fully kill halo for good. Even with halo being in the worst spot it's EVER been in, it will never die. It's just missing in action. Stay strong, fellow spartans. I'll see you on the other side.

Developer here! I'm going to be honest, I think recovery for Halo Infinite is impossible for many reasons, but the coding aspect alone is a train wreck. There was a large project I was hired to "fix". It wasn't gaming, but it was the same concept. nearly a decade of contracted and outsourced work to build this massive project. The databases were extremely jaded, so much duplication, took nearly 6 months to train someone just to be able to work on jack, and it was just a nightmare. From the very beginning I built an entire plan to remedy the situation. The remedy was simply a massive data conversion project. Building a new engine, restarting the project, but utilizing a process that would slowly transfer over the logic over a 5 year span. It truly was the only path towards success. The project was too far gone. When code is build bad from the beginning the easiest way to explain it is that you're building on top of an upside down pyramid, constantly balancing and breaking the structure as you build. The base of the structure has to be made from the beginning to handle the future builds you plan to create. Those who hired me absolutely refused to transfer away from the original code. They hated the idea. They told me to figure it out. There was no other option and I told them if they don't change their ways that the project would hit a critical mass in 5 years unless they took my route and actually started fixing the issues properly. They wouldn't listen. I still did it anyways though. I got what they wanted by using the original code for the time while still slowly transferring the logic over. Though it'd take twice as long to transfer the logic properly and I doubted the project would survive 5 years. I quit that job 3 years ago. But I left them with people in power who I convinced of my vision and continued my work. They transferred roughly 50% of the logic over to a better engine so far before the entire project came crashing down. due to the field I was working, I can't go into detail, but it was government stuff is the TLDR. Government pulled the plug on the project. The new company was able to salvage 50% of the logic from my project to begin converting the data away. My old company lost the funding and it was also their largest contract, so they lost major funding and had huge lay offs. I got an update from a friend of mine that I worked with just the other day. None of what went down surprises me. it's why I left the company. The incompetence was extremely real. Some of the brightest developers, but management was too messed up. But even with the original developers, they needed new blood. Old developers hold old and bad habits when they stick to bad teams. Good developers just like in any other field, good employees don't stay with bad companies. I felt like ranting because it made me think about it. But in my honest opinion, 343 needs to go. it's a sinking ship and the code is too far gone. 343 contracted out insanely more than my failed project did. And I'm not talking about some small contract I worked on, this was an insanely large project. Data loss and logic loss was considered mission critical and not an option to lose. Yet they lost it... Yet it's gone... They never wanted to accept that it was screwed from the start and inevitable. It's a hard pill to swallow, but Halo Infinite will not release faster by getting new management, the code is still screwed. The game will not be less buggy or have content come out because of new management. New management may bring in new ideas, but my contract had new management as well. They had so many ideas. Yet they never could perform those ideas bc they refused to chop the arm that was obviously infected b4 it killed them. Halo needs to be rebuilt from the ground up imo. If they envision some massive multiplayer game with content updates, season pass, etc, you need to not be screwed from the beginning. Look at League of Legends for example. If you aren't aware, they had a very difficult start with coding. But they slowly converted the logic and code to a new platform and like magic, they were a massive success and stayed that way. Halo needs to cut the infected limb. The code is bad.

Obviously my view point is bias lol, but I've seen projects be smited by the power of god himself with unlimited manpower and money to repair messed up projects. And the attempts to repair projects as messed up as what I'm hearing about Halo just isn't possible. When you screw up the beginning platform as badly as this, it truly is more productive, cheaper, faster, and better to just rebuild it from scratch. Can Microsoft fix it? Absolutely, but it'd be a rebuild. Now that doesn't mean it has to be renamed. Like when I think of DOTA 2 for example, it had basically a full rebuild but they never renamed it. Valve being alergic to the number 3 and all, they just rebuilt dota 3 and called it dota 2 lol. This was years ago, but the same thing happened with league of legends. Now their platform was less screwed up from the beginning for sure. Though arguably leagues had a pretty bad coding start. won't go into that reason, but it also wasn't fully their fault. But MOBA's are weird with not renaming the games. HALO if they rebuild the platform would likely just call it a new name imo. But we'll find out! :)

They had 3 games 3 GAMES to make a change to fix their mistakes to try and they didn't, the only reason halo Infinite was much better then the rest was because they had an original bungie halo dev join the project and he worked to repair the project. Microsoft should've just renewed their contract with bungie after reach imagine all the great games they could've made now I'm stuck playing the original halo games sad that I'll never get to experience what it was like when they came out.

I just played through the OG trilogy and Reach, within a couple of weeks and had an amazing blast. The games made close to two decades ago were far more fun and interesting. They just don’t make em like they used to.

Good video. Halo Infinite was supposed to be the Halo that brought my friends and I back to the series. We used to play so much Halo 1-4 over the years. It did not take long for us to drop off one by one and eventually I gave it up myself completely a couple months ago. Shame.

Ahhhhh, dude the ODST music killed it for me. This game deserved better.

My biggest question is why not follow what worked with Mcc. Like they says they were testing things in Mcc, why not continue stay went so well and revived Mcc

The hardest pill to swallow about Infinite was just how close it was to being really really good.

@@HailAzathoth when you login for the first time, the game plays great, with mechanics somewhere between halo 3 and reach. Then the more you play the more the lack of content starts showing through, it’s really disappointing.

All these issues should have ended after Halo 4. The incompetence levels are so ridiculously high, I fear there is a subdivision of malice.

I just want a good Halo game. I’m tired of feeling like the only patient Halo fan left. I still hold hope, but it’s very little. I straight up skipped out on Halo 5 due to how unrecognized Halo was looking at the time. The art style made me come back like countless others, but man it’s hard to keep playing this game. At some point I’ll have to take out the hard drive and walk away, but I don’t want to.

Horrible customization, lack of modes, mediocre story, Stan youtubers, no coop campaign. I remember playing Halo 3 and Reach, best experiences in gaming history. Full complete products with S tier stories. Halo infinite just treat us like idiots, I can’t tolerate that. Fuck that.

I've genuinely taken to playing the Halo mods on Arma 3 to get my fix for "new Halo content", the situation is fucking tragic when fans of a military sandbox game make Halo that feels more like Halo than the people entrusted to carry the franchise

You’re honestly kind of one of the lucky ones man, I gotta Xbox and can’t really spend the money on a PC atm. So the drought is real and everyday I find it harder to play Halo period. I’m honestly more interested in Apex Legends rn.

I think more people would play if they would just make more maps. Like it’s been about a year and there are only like 10 maps when most older halo games had way more maps at launch.

Great video, really loved your presentation. Even though the Halo community is in this state, it still shines through that we are a “family” with a shared past through this game. I have fallen out of Halo, but not because of the controversy, but due to busyness of life. It’s still the love for the lore and the community that keep me within this universe, and why I don’t think I’ll ever leave it. Even if it’s a sinking ship I’ll stand by it till the end. At this point maybe we are just in the forerunner saga, and we need to activate the Halo rings for a hard reset, then life can be jump started again into the franchise. In any case thanks for the video and I just subbed, glad the algorithm found you.

What’s sad is that halo ain’t dead, actually it’s far from it, look at all the creativity by mcc mods, look how much people who are disappointed about 343 treatment of infinite and the franchise. There’s a lot of people who still love and are passionate about halo. It’s that 343 (obviously not all of them )dont understand what made halo clicked with fans and what worked

@@aceambling7685 exactly, I won’t deny that 343 has done some good with the mcc, especially with it’s pc port or how ambitious halo 5 forge was. But the negatives unfortunately outweighs the positives, the shake up at 343 hopefully may Improved things but I feel like a new studio may be the better option, for example look at ID software specifically with doom 2016 and they made that level creator (doom snap map) I feel they can do wonders with this franchise but the shakeup on 343 I hope is a change for the best, only time will tell though.

I mean, it is dying, has been for years. But it isnt dead. Also, mods are PC exclusive, kind of a poor point seeing as Halo has always traditionally been Xbox only until recent.

i like to believe that master chief died nuking the didact ship and everything we see afterwards is just a nightmare in the 3 seconds it takes for the nuke to disintergrate his armor and atomize him

It was one of the worst imo. People keep saying it's good I just can't enjoy it, open world breaks every encounter. You can overpower everything with weapon spawns, and if you dont the destiny healthcare enemies are annoying as shit. It's basically bringing nukes to kill 1 enemy but it makes every other enemy worthless. Everything feels aimless, the story is non-existent it's basically as shallow as halo 1 was, a lot of "look!! Halo music with sweeping shot!! Look at the nostalgia!!" It's so tiring.

Considering the resurgence of cyberpunk 2077 after the edgerunners anime came out, it should give you a good idea of how terribly the halo show was received. It really is sad how mishandled this series is as of late:(

I loved halo, I played it when I was about 12, missed out on playing live for some time. After being homeless, got my first place, almost a decade later, a working PC, and MCC. Had a night of insomnia and finally gave in to a 3am game of FireFight with Flood on Halo 3 ODST, and had one of the best gaming sessions I remember having since I was a kid. Defending the city at night with three other strangers, making sure the swarms stayed down. With some coffee music in the backround. my Cat joined me on the desk around those times.

Im not so much involved in video games as i was when younger (27 now) And this out of any other game, how its managed, makes me tear up

Love the video, but you also forgot to mention the “World Premiere” shown during the HCS tournament a couple weeks ago. But hey, at least we can potentially have 1 more map before the year’s end.

Halo Reach was the last Halo game I ever played. I absolutely loved it. So many great memories. Looks like I haven't missed out on anything since.

I think the finale nail in the coffin was the road map, honestly.

The delays aren't so much the problem for me... it's the promises left unfufilled, the constant shifting goal posts for the quality of their content. And the content itself! The game was so close, to being good. Hell, when I was still playing months ago, occasionally I would get a good match where I suffered no desync, and no kills or deaths felt BS. Those few matches were good! But... everything else outside of those good matches. The fact you HAVE, to play modes you don't want to in order to progress the shitty battlepass for cosmetics. The grind of said battlepass for someone who works and doesn't have much spare time. The still unfixed desync issues making most matches a case of frustration. So many converging factors made continued investment of my time into infinite, not worth it. I can have more fun playing almost any another game... so I did.

Idk how you don't have millions of subs. Don't get me wrong, 13,000 subs is nothing to scoff at but the quality of this content is worthy of millions. Keep it up and you'll hit 1 mill in no time.

What sucks is that I love Infinite's gameplay, what I believe would liven up the game is first 1. Fix Desync 2. Add PVE modes and PVE narrative events 3. Add progression system 4. 3 month seasons gaps with monthly content drops (with actual gamemode content, modes, variants etc.) 5. Separate the mode variants into their own option, because at the end of the day, every playlist in infinite is just another form of quickplay

I was so excited to play infinite, stopped playing it before the end of 2021, and then for a little bit a few months ago. I just don’t see the need to keep playing, the co-op split screen cancellation was the final straw for me. I’ve played the original halo games with my brothers on splitscreen and had great memories. It’s a shame it’s come to this

This is sad. I still enjoy the multiplayer but the lack of content is definitely felt. Been a halo fan since 1 and 2 and it just hurts to see this series so close to many just fade away with time.

It has been three months since I last touched Halo Infinite on my Xbox One, and when I upgraded to the Series X, I had no desire to download it to the console. I can have more fun playing MCC and Halo 5 than I possibly could with Infinite. The content drought and predatory monetization in the store were one thing. The last straw for me was the broken promises and constant delays. I have completely turned my back on Halo Infinite. 343 definitely screwed the pooch with this one, and if they are seriously intending on making a sequel to Infinite, then they'd better fix everything they did wrong, because they will not get another chance if they screw up again.

Live service implies that it was live already. I’m still waiting for it to launch. But in all honestly I hope this game has a comeback like no man’s sky.

@@Nikos. in order for this to happen, a LOT has to change with management. We need someone who knows how to run a company and has an actual love for ACTUAL halo, not this sweaty Esports bullshit that they are insisting the game is about

6:30 that scene still gives me goosebumps. I was 8 when that scene came out and I'm 22 now.

Seeing Infinites current state makes me sad, although I haven't got to play it yet I was really hoping to be able to play split screen campaign and forge with my bros. Played CE, halo 3, odst, reach, and 4. Many good memories

I know you already saw my comment before on one of your community posts Nikos, but I uninstalled Infinite for the first time a couple of days ago. It's such a disappointment. I am not angry, I just do not care at all anymore about it. Maybe the next one will be good. Probably not. I've redownloaded Battlefield 1 and 4 lol, those are still very fun.

Excellent points! I just subscribed. The only point I differ with you on is that I believe Microsoft used short-term contractors as opposed to W2 employees to be cheap, not to hasten development. They don’t have to pay benefits of any kind to contractors (unless they stay on long-term, which, among some other factors, could change their worker status from “Contractor” to “Employee”). By keeping them as contractors, they can allocate more money that could have been spent on actual W2 employee benefits but instead used to go towards management salaries and bonuses… Very lucrative for people like Ross and O’Conner but crappy for the workers and the overall quality of the game due to the technical knowledge deficits inherent in short-term to short-term transfers of data and programming details.

This was like watching a childhood friend getting hooked on heroin and spiraling out of control Halo CE was the literal start for my gaming journey. The first real triple A game, before I was used to plug-n-play with Dig Dug and Pac-Man Help opened my eyes to a whole new world and, as a 5 year old child, looking at the ring passing overhead was mind blowing and I fell in love with the franchise Its been a long ride, but if this is the end then I'll be happy knowing the series gave me some amazing years, met some great people, and had some of the hardest laughs ever

im genuinely curious about the 'scope creep' bit considering the game had zero content on release. and the campaign had the least amount of diversity in any halo campaign prior lol. did they think scope creep is having more than one biome in their campaign? or perhaps launching with more than 4 maps?

The thing about software projects in general is that scope creep can introduce complexity that actually gets in the way of developing content/features, so you can end up with a bigger, more complex project that provides less of a game. One of the most important disciplines in game design/development is not getting lost in the weeds.

I played almost 90 hrs during November and December last year between the multiplayer and campaign, but since then, I’ve only put in maybe 5 hrs. I wished that wasn’t the case, but the content wasn’t there to bring me back.

343 has truly proven time and time again they're possibly the most incompetent studio in the industry

I loaded up halo reachs forge world the other day and walked around a bit, I couldn't help but feel sad for how far the series has fallen. It was a really strange feeling.

Reach's Forge was insane. The map was so big & versatile. Compared to H4 forge which were just 2 flat, boring islands (iirc)

Given that they couldn't add Team Slayer to matchmaking due to "UI limitations," it would not surprise me at all if Co-Op is ready to ship but they literally can't get the UI to show the option in the live release.

The funny part was how KZreadrs who I had no idea cared about Halo started to call out 343. Gave me a new found hatred for 343.

Hey love the content! Personal critique here :) Audio wise your S's and your CH's are really harsh and a EQ with a little bit of high end cutoff would help with that.

I remember when the anti-343 Halo partisan I was even considered Halo Infinite a potential consideration for at least stalling the death of the franchise, until it released when I started to become skeptical, and with each passing month I only grew to further reaffirm my previous position, the only ones who could make a good Halo game was Bungie.

Honestly, it's not one of the worst games in gaming history, it's just not anywhere near the game it needs to be, it's bland shit. They need another Halo 3 with all it's features intact at launch and they have failed at that every single time.

This is what happens when you hire people who fundamentally don't like halo's core and wants to change it. 343 has straight up admitted to hiring people who don't like halo with halo 4.

I opened the master chef collection and I was speechless to find a multiplayer matches in combat evolved while I don't get any lobbies in infinite even after waiting more than 15mins

I feel like infinite still isnt dead yet. It’s dying for sure, but not dead. Forge will bring a lot of people back, and also some other people for season 3. If the “BR” that certain affinity is working on comes out soon, it will bring a ton of people to the game

what boggles my mind is, they could've called the Winter Update season 3, an even a as kinda lackluster season, I wouldn't have gotten half the criticism it got. like who's decision was to name it like that? it was so obvious people wouldn't like that...

I can't believe I am going to sit on the sidelines of halo going forward. Such a sad era for the franchise and another lost customer.

As a halo fan since i was 6 years old(currently 23) i feel like this is the end of a franchise. Halo Infinite has really caught up my attention since it came out and i beat the came on launch day. I tried replaying it many times but it just doesn't feel good. Like halo 1 till reach. I can play all those campaigns over and over again. 343 has really killed the vibe i had for Halo. For the childhood dream I had. I get no nostalgia from anything. It's honestly sad. I blame the whole corporate greedy strategies now a day with every game that comes out. All i gotta say now. There is no going back to the good old days. GG Halo, John 117 it's time i put you to sleep in my mind.
