This is exceptional content. Keep that gopro rolling and don't edit out the actual realities of sailing like so many. I like your calm demeanor and cautious optimistic approach to doing something alone you've never done before. You are showing your mistakes live as well, letting us all learn. There are so many mariners on here who have the camera on their face like 90% of their video. And they den more time talking about themselves than actual sailing. I’d like to believe that most of the subscribers are on here to learn something. You do an outstanding job at showing the real deal. Thanks again!!

I have also had anchoring issues. Boat dragged while I was off the boat. A sailor off another boat managed to secure her. I raced out in my dingy to go re- anchor. Love the sailing fraternity. Stay safe Captain Mike.

Was thinking about your two anchoring issues. You may want to look into all chain rode. I had 200" on Vienna. This may stop keel wrap when tides change. Just a thought.

As a wannabe solo sailor like u (who needs to stop motoring & begin sailing), who lost anchor while asleep & got dragged to somewhere in (the middle of?) Lake Ontario and someone u saved when my boat kept jumping around like a bronco in a rodeo with howling winds while anchored near our marina, I am learning LOTS from this video & ur others. Thank you Captain Mike. Keep making them, taking care & being safe. I hope u are enjoying Christmas too.

@@sailingEV888 Not sure if you use Navionics.The further south you go,the inlet entrances can be tricky.Navionics is really good as that is what we use.

I'm starting to think it's safer out there on the Ocean. Will be passage making as much as I can and doing longer hops south. I'm in Beaufort NC. I think I'm half way!

I went out and got 150 ft of 5/16 G4 high test chain! Problem solved and lesson learned!

Hey dude. Watching your videos and I think you would be doing yourself a big solid if you just organize your boat a bit more Keep your gear stored away. Keep your lines organized. Keep your deck clear. it’s really just about reducing a stress level and making sure you’re safe

What I do. After dropping and tying the sail and with the sail's head pushed down the mast as far as she can go, just pull a loop of halyard down and around a convenient mast cleat. Go back to the halyard clutch and tie a figure8 as close to the clutch as possible to keep the loop on the cleat for next time. Maybe invest in lazyjacks through your (then) permanently mounted boom sail bag so that you can skip the on boom tying up and just do the 10 second halyard cleat-loop. Good character building content. You've grown in character 🙂 (and followers).

A few years ago I got a sewing machine that could do sunbrella. It sat in my locker for a year and just before I left I gave it to another cruiser. Lazy Jack's are key! And once I get somewhere warm I'm gona do some major repairs and projects. Lazy Jack's are up there on the list.. should have kept that sewing machine..

I simply clip my halyard to a lifeline or clear as well. Then tighten it up. Avoids the mast slap. Also try and not tie up sail perfectly and or take hapyard off till you are safely in port or anchored. If engine fails, the main sail is your best friend. With Genoa alone, it won't do in some conditions to sail out of danger. The main will make short tacks upwind if necessary and provide full control as it wind be overpowered. Also easier to change course than with a Genoa that can get fouled up. Fair winds

Another suggestion is why are you cutting things close If you have the water further from sure just tack out add another half an hour and make sure you’re safe You’re causing yourself stress and safety concerns sandbars a great deal compared to what the chart says

Mike...IMHO you're gong to need a Delta/Mantus style (pointy tip) anchor with "LOTS" more chain !!! A short length of chain & three strand behind is OK for the Great Lakes, but Coral can easily cut through an anchor rope !!!

I now have 160 ft of 5/8 g4 hot dipped chain! These are old school problems. Im spending my limited time thinking about other problems... I think we can pull energy from the sea and Tide.. wind solar and tidal energy should be our topic. Sailing EV needs to become sailing EV... the era of diesel engines is over. How can we change the cruising industry and stop using fossil fuels? Any thoughts?

One constant thing out here is water moving over my hull.. twice a day it changes direction. 2 to 3 knots of current energy.. 9 hours of sun and 15 knots of wind power. There is no reason to have a diesel engine..

man,you are good. How did you get trough the locks by yourself? Dont you have to hold on at the bow and aft of the boat?

Geebus lol ... I thought sailing was supposed to be relaximg ... i know you like to challange yourself, but this is non stop analyzing haha ... I am sure it becomes second nature once you have done it thousands and thousands of times, but ... My blood pressure would be throufh the roof ! Good on ya ! Look forward to the next ... I have another observation Why is the lower end of your main sale not run through the boom? Does your Sail Boat not allow it to run down the top groove of the boom I’ve only ever seen that on mast, furling Main sales
