Awesome Hack! Love the Darkness!! Fantastic live band. Not a novelty act but don't take themselves too seriously. Great musicianship, good songwriting and excellent lead guitar playing. One of the best rock bands of this century so far, (the other was Airbourne from Australia but they broke up.) They remind me a lot of Queen but a bit heavier. I follow the Justin Hawkins' youtube channel. Fantastic live band.Matter of fact I've seen them 4 times live, 2 times here in Tempe,AZ. Both shows down here were packed. After seeing Justin Hawkins play with Wolfgang at the EVH tribute that was fun.

Nice one Hack! Great to see some love for The Darkness. I fully agree - The Last of Our Kind is my #1 as well.

One of the best live acts I've ever seen. Also, Black Shuck is one hell of a way to open an album. Cannon Ball off Hot Cakes, featuring Ian Anderson on flute is an absolute banger. Great band.

Neat Are you a big fan? I've got about three CDs of theirs I'm not a huge fan but some of their stuff is pretty good Of course Justin's KZread channel he's a hell of a character

Last of our Kind Deluxe edition is a Masterpiece - Every Song is Different and Epic - The Debut Album is my least favorite - Easter is Cancelled has an unexpected Death Metal riff.... Very Talented Very Creative - Diverse Band -

My ranking is very different. 1. Permission To Land 2. Motorheart 3. One Way Ticket 4. Last Of Our Kind 5. Hot Cakes 6. Pinewood Smile 7. Easter Is Cancelled

I think one problem with current rock bands is that few have a memorable frontman. They might sing well, write well and play something well.. But they ain't no Steven Tyler, Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford or David Lee Roth. You've forgotten them the second they leave the radio or stage. Justin Hawkins is really a character. Funny, personal, great guitarist and a original voice. While the voice always can be an issue for anyone.. I don't really understand how people who grew up with KISS, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Cheap Trick or Queen see him as something negative. I think everything he does is a clever tribute to the 70's and 80's. Whilst some of there songs are underwritten (clearly weaker than the hits) I think the albums overall is solid. They are still quite enjoyable songs. I don't hesitate to put on any The Darkness album when I'm in the mood. My ranking: 7. Motorheart (2021) 6. One Way Ticket to Hell... and Back (2005) 5. Pinewood Smile (2017) 4. Last of Our Kind (2015) 3. Easter Is Cancelled (2019) 2. Hot Cakes (2012) 1. Permission to Land (2003) Some thoughts about each record: 7. Motorheart is a very heavy record but I don't think the melodies are very strong and the album isn't that memorable. 6. One Way Ticket to Hell... and Back. The first record I got and at this point it was a long time ago. I've always liked it but today it seems rather dated in production. 5. Pinewood smile. A record that is all over the place. I like variation on an album but this just feels like they did put on anything and didn't care about the form as a record. 4. Last of Our Kind. Quite heavy. Many catchy riffs. A few songs are a bit underdeveloped but a good start if you want to explore the band. 3. Easter Is Cancelled. A bit all over the place like Pinewood Smile but done better. A stronger overall experience. 2. Hot Cakes. Very catchy and fun. Perhaps the most poppy of their albums.. Which to me isn't a bad thing. 1. Permission to Land. A powerful and catchy statement. Really good energy, nice comedy and several strong songs.
