The Darkest Song in Taiko no Tatsujin

Ойындар

For our second spooky / spooky rhythm game video of the month, we're going to be covering what I think is the darkest song in Taiko no Tatsujin, Joubutsu2000. (nope, not 1stpai, the secret taiko song.)

Hello french person here , a couple of mistakes were done in the lyrics , at 5:31 it actually means : "Having given everything we had" 5:34" Without much anger." 5:09 The 1st part is correct however the 2nd part of that sentence means : "Should we even try" 5:15 "But most of the time, that is dictated suddenly" 5:24 "That being said" With that that is all the errors i've found . I believe tzechi has just made a rough translation of what was said , even though it is close to what it actually means , this is the correct translation.

Personally, I believe that スーハー2000 is also pretty dark, and is allegedly about a man turning to drugs after being dumped by his girlfriend. Even by today’s standards, スーハー2000 is still one of the hardest songs to ever be featured on Chojin (The grade before Tatsujin). If not for Laur joining the party with his outrageously hard song called Chimimoryo (魑魅魍魎), it would still have been the hardest Chojin song.

as someone who fell into the 2000 rabbit hole, i'd also like to mention some other contenders from that series that are also pretty dark lol - kechadon 2000 is about a mangaka desperately trying to finish his work before his editors bust down his door (overworking is a very common theme among the songs that have themes) - yokuderu 2000 is about an overworked office worker who wants to take a well-deserved vacation to the mountains (hence the yodelling theme) - taberuna 2000 is about a guy who eats for 3 hours straight before his heart stops - hataraku 2000 is about a programming team going mad over the build that everybody seems to be messing up - etc, etc, etc...

A fan of 2000 song series too and let me add some other songs what's it about: For overwork related: -Tenjiku 2000 is the same as Yokuderu 2000 (overworked office worked) but instead want to have a vacation on the hill, he went to India instead (which unfortunately met his boss during his trip in India). -Norudon 2000 although it sounds upbeat and catchy, it has a dark background about work in the middle song. -Mada Saitama 2000 is about a worker going on a train after a long day's work but unfortunately missed his train station he needs to go off and miserably in the countryside. For other songs: -Saitama 2000 is simply just Saitama 2000. (a beginner should play this, it's catchy) -Koibumi 2000 simply about a girl *on the rock band* confessing her crush *ended up the real person she was confessing was her sister*. -Kita Saitama 2000 is about cities in the district of Saitama. -Kita Saitama 200 is a slower version of Kita Saitama 2000. -Soroban 2000 is about 3 students playing the arcade by using Abacus (basically the song name translated to English is Abacus 2000 as well), not to mention the game they're playing is Soroban 2000 too. -EkiBEN 2000 (Literally EkiBen is Japanese's Lunch for train passengers) is about a train traveller whose vacation didn't go as planned (not able to buy a bento and peaceful times on train ruined by some people and a kid). -X-DAY 2000 is basically just a remix from Linda AI-CUE's OST game called X-DAY 2. -Kidaruma 2000 is just an interview from MC Linn and Linda AI-CUE. (this appear as a april fool's joke from them) -Shimedore 2000(+) is a complination of all the 2000 songs before Kidaruma 2000 (plus version has some sound in EkiBEN and uncut version of Kidaruma 2000 at the end). -Joubutsu 2000 is explained in this video. -Mata Saitama 2000 just like Kita Saitama 2000 but Linda talks about food instead (notice the cities are different now unlike Kita Saitama because they don't exist anymore, also Jelly Fry!). -Suuhaa 2000 is about being drunk? (worth playing if you have no knowledge about this song) -Donkama 2000 probably Linda just messing with his Doncamatic, google it if you don't know what it is (also worth playing if you have no knowledge about this song). -Yokuderu 15300 is Yokuderu 2000 played at x7.65 speed. -Nesin Amatias is the reverse version of Saitama 2000 (as Nesin= Ni sen = 2000). -Shimedore 2000 was supposed to end the 2000 series after Taiko 14 released but until now, it hasn't ended yet and existed Zoku Shimedore 2000, basically like Shimedore 2000 but between the song Joubutsu 2000 to Waraeru 2000. -Taiko no 2000 is a "back on track" songs like Saitama 2000 after years of making songs about overwork and life problems. Last is Waraeru 2000 and personally I felt this song is the darkest (comparing to Joubutsu 2000 when they talk about be strong but ended up being hopeless and just have to kill everyone), Waraeru 2000 is about escape from reality by attempt to suicide (would make sense when at the start he said "Let's end everything" and "Let's jump", jumping off the cliff or building perhaps?). The devil inside him laughing and him asking for help when he's in trouble, not to mention he was being chased (probably running away from reality like works, relationship and other stuffs). At the end probably his boss or colleague said him to rest today after worked hard and will meet him again tomorrow (which about stress working everyday?). Not to mention about "Self-responsibility?" and "Escape to survive!". Some mentions I want to say: +Thanks to Taiko Time Blog i can understand all the 2000 are all about but some of them might not be correct since one or two doesn't have the lyrics translated to English. +Some of the songs has secret behind, mostly is morse codes. +Fix it for me if something i said is not correct or missing anything since most the sources I was finding was in Taiko Time, other stuffs for Japanese Culture. Any feedback will be appreciated. +My fav is Waraeru 2000, Suuhaa 2000 and Donkama 2000 since i love dark, distorted songs in taiko (although most of it isn't). +2000 series are songs that isn't hard nor easy, it's either easy to pass but hard to fc. (Donkama 2000 is an exception) +I'll always keep checking and fixing some parts i might missed or inaccurate parts or songs that I haven't fully known the meaning of it yet. +=/=MM is not a 2000 song despite it has 2000 in it. +Taberuna 2000 is a guy went home, straight eating for hours and either he died after eating or just tired sleeping at the end of the song. +Be mindful that some of them are just theory, example like Suuhaa 2000 and Waraeru 2000 since not enough context, materials,... Edited: Fixed EkiBEN 2000 missing parts about lunch box and Mata Saitama 2000's cities Linda mentioned in song.

@MaiChickenButt tbh, i still don't know clearly what this song's about. Sure, it sounds like he's smoking (breathing in and out, sucking it in and more into the lungs) but has little context and clearly the singer here is broke (as you can see he was saying looking at something expensive with beautiful high numbers, ordering wine and sashimi with budget one). Other than that, i still have no better clue because it could be another work related because of his salary's too low? And the later part of lyrics, it doesn't seem about him and his cigarette anymore.

I'm more fluent in French than Japanese, and so without the 'massacre' context, I had always understood it as a somber-yet-satisfied ending to the 2000 series, to which this was SUPPOSED to be the finale of. Someone else said the crackling sounded more like vinyl scratches to them, and I would agree that's how I always inferred it! Then for the bang, I don't know why I always assumed it was a confetti popper. Maybe that fits the theme of a thankful parting? Lastly, I only ever heard the one "I'm hungry" line in French while playing, but I thought it was a quiet admittance that they crave more, and don't want this to be the end. It easily goes to the realm of freaky when taken literally, I definitely enjoy exploring that aspect!

according to reddit, the person the song is about was in an arson and as their house burned down they swore revenge on the people who burnt down their house(explaining the mentions of massacre and the crackling of fire). Once the person gets revenge they immediately regret it and sits on some train tracks wanting to be ran over. the gong at the end symbolizes the impact and the 30-ish long note verse at the end is the train horn after the passing (i tried finding the person who made this analogy but i was unsuccessful)

the fact joubutsu is specifically a peaceful death would support this i think. the 37564/minagoroshi is a little harder to fit into this interpretation, although it could theoretically be referring to just the series being annihilated or something. the 110 bpm another comment mentioned could be a coincidence,,, the 999 notes being an unlucky number is also maybe just a "we're sad to see it go" thing but that is a bit,,, idk the bang at the end is either a firecracker or a gunshot or something similar, and the train whistle is a bit weird, but it could be another kinda "we killed 2000 series and are riding off into the sunset" thing. the more i write the more i am convinced this was either a cry for help or written to bait people into overthinking what is essentially just a very weird sendoff lmao

apparently, at the time of creating this song, linda ai-que was rather depressed i believe, and so with his sorrow he made this song... not really sure if that is true though and also, im a bit surprised you didnt cover the rather obvious loud "bang" before the 37564 string. fans have been saying it could be related to a few things, related to death (train, followed by train whistle) (shutting doors on incinerator etc.) which is really sad to think about very dark song, but good video! :)

The original 2000 tracks feel like a joke at the expense of the international fanbase -- their chaotic, dark style makes it feel like their lyrics are speaking to some hidden evil -- but in fact, it's just nonsense interspersed with random facts about Japanese geography. I didn't even know about the later ones that actually have like, coherent parables to them. Probably one of the most interesting series of boss songs in rhythm games, honestly. Thanks for the rundown!

I agree with the incinerator theory. However after the 33 long section near the end, there is a bang, which I presume is the closing of said incinerator, however the bang (to me at least) doesn't sound like a gunshot but more like the banging of two metal pieces, presumably a door of some kind. The happy music would probably symbolize how the man has reached a state of peace, or has finally reached heaven. A happy end after all the difficulty in his life, could also be symbolized by the song's difficulty.

couple o things to mention, at 9:00 I wrote the script in a really weird way. yes, there *are* quiet drums for the notes to go to. what I meant to refer to was the note color changes not making any sense from a charting standpoint. (ka/blue notes would normally go to higher pitch, don/red notes go to lower pitch blah blah). hopefully that clears it up a little! another thing i'd like to mention that I didn't put in the video was the loud crash at 8:06. the theory about it being either a train or the doors to the incinerator slamming shut are really interesting topics that add another layer to it that I wish i'd put in the video. thank you cool peeps who've pointed it out in the comments! I didn’t know much Japanese (or any French) at that time so I couldn’t tell what they were saying. I’m surprised it goes into such dark subject matter, because I mostly only focused on this songs crazy amount of notes and hard patterns. Good video tzechi, da don

The lyrics for Joubutsu 2000 has two meanings, I think. One is, well, what was discussed in this video, and the other is that Joubutsu 2000 was apparently supposed to be the very last 2000 song to be released. Hence why the lyrics use the term "we" and not "I", "we" referring to the team LindaAI-CUE was working with. So the lines, "When we should put an end to things is up to us to decide, we have to be strong," "But most of the time, that is not dictated by us, that is told to us," and "we've given everything we've got," make a little more sense now.

Also, I'd kinda like to argue that Waraeru 2000 might be a darker song to be honest. I mean, the lyrics are pretty messed up, if you could really even call them lyrics. I can't really tell what the theme for Waraeru 2000 is, whether it's a work related one like Yokuderu and Kechadon, or a school themed one, where the protagonist is getting bullied to the point he gets completely traumatized. This is seen in some lines of the song where the protagonist says, "Excuse me! Can you help me!", this shows that the guy might be calling for help or trying to find someone that he can trust to help him with his situation. But whatever the theme may be, the main character in the song is constantly hallucinating, believing he's being chased by someone, or something, even questioning himself sometimes. In fact, the song starts out with the guy ready to unalive himself, saying things like, "let's put an end to everything," and "let's stop looking back." The whole song is like this, where the main character goes back and forth between killing himself or not. All up until who I assume to be his boss or teacher calls him to "come back tomorrow," and to "take the day off." "TLDR", Waraeru 2000 is a darker song than Joubutsu because of it's theme of suicide, hallucinations, and has a main protagonist who either has been extremely traumatized by bullying or extremely stressed out by his job to the point he wants to kill himself.

the 2000 series of songs is definitely one of my favorite parts of taiko, with joubutsu 2000 being my favorite in the whole series! the poem in the middle, although dark, brings me a lot of comfort and so i can look past the rest of the creepy parts of the song just for it (although the creepy and tragic aspect of the song is also a huge reason why i love it so much). i had read the taiko time article for joubutsu 2000 before, and it also mentioned the "fire/incinerator crackling" in the background at the end. it wasn't until you pointed out what exactly that meant that i knew what the "crackling" was. i personally think it is the crackling of a vinyl record, because i interpret joubutsu 2000 to be the last thoughts of an old person before they die. the crackling is the vinyl record they're listening to (kinda like how it is at the very end of stage 6 in everywhere at the end of time), and the bang at the end is the sound of the door closing right as they finally pass away (or maybe a metaphor for a door closing to represent how their life has come to an end). although there are other creepy 2000 songs in content, the second most creepy 2000 song to me is definitely donkama just by the way it sounds. something about the manic drums, the metronome, the random vocals, and the loud "AH AH AH AH AH" sound in the background the whole time really creeps me out (although it creeps me out less than it did when i first heard it because now i know that its origin is essentially just linda ai-cue messing around with a drum machine). suuhaa 2000 also creeps me out a little only because it sounds cult-ish. i dont actually know what the song is about, but i have always imagined it as either a cult or a just a group of people chanting/singing in the woods while a monster/demon (the random cut ins of weird music that interrupt the main vocals) is around them. anyway, i love the 2000 series because so much of it can be up to your imagination and interpretation. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I really feel like there is a reference to WW2 with the French voice (WW2 mostly French versus German) saying "I'm hungry!" like the Jews who were previously interned and very malnourished , the military drum that can be heard towards the end, some loud noises that could also be considered as a gunshot or explosions, the incinerator which recalls the deportees who were burned or the train which surely refers transportation of Jews to concentration camps. Anyway, this video is very interesting! I had some information on it but I didn't understand at all what this song was explaining.. Thanks again for this video! The fact that every taiko gameplay footage is very often blurred between individual frames - When I was working with Sony Vegas 14, what caused this was a "Resample" switch that seemed enabled by default for each video layer. Don't know if it's this simple if you're using a different piece of software, but finding it in a dropdown menu (right clicking the video layer on the timeline > Switches) and disabling it fixes the blurring frames issue.

Ekiben2000 is the direct prequel to the subject song. You can tell because he missed getting lunch, which is why he's hungry.

I think you should make a video about “taberuna 2000” it’s about a man who gets back from work, and starts eating for hours straight, then he has a heart attack (There are also screams in the song, implying he ate pepole,or his heart and stomach pleasjng for him to stop eating) and then he dies.of a heart attack, spooky!

Might just be a coincidence, but the fact that the total notes in this song is 999, which is 666 upside down might have something to do with this song's dark meaning

I think it's not dark. Maybe the death is the death of the first 2000 songs. It's a large murder of the first 2000 songs. Maybe they are accepting they need to ditch the old and go to the new. It is the last old 2000 song so it makes sense plus it's a kids game. If I made something like this the meaning would be friendly. BuT tHaTs JuSt A tHeOrY a SoNg ThEoRy! Thanks for reading

I've only played taiko no tatsujin once at arcade, but something tells me that this game was made for me... First of all, I love Namco. They have managed to make amazing games, pioneer every genre, and take on every challenge they face. Also, my family is really into drumming. Im a fan of rhythm games like guitar hero and In the groove.

There was also another theory about this song that Linda himself composed this song while he was in a depressed state, and had a few suicidal thoughts. He quickly recovered right after.

I remember Joubutsu 2000. At the time it was easily the hardest song in the series and it took me many, many tries to pass. It also happened to be very omnious with its whole 37564 theme. Yeah, definitely a memorable entry for sure.
