The Dark Underworld of F1 Sponsorships

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Formula 1 title sponsors are sometimes just as iconic as the cars their names are painted on. But have you ever seen a sponsor and wondered “What the heck is that?”. We have too. Join Nolan and explore some of the sketchiest sponsors in F1 history; some recent and some almost too far fetched to believe. Also, we’ll figure out what the heck a Mission Winnow is.

@@storrho The grid line up used to look amazing in the 80's & 90's before the sponsorship ban, not only did the cars look better but there were far fewer cases of these dodgy deals going down. The notion that a race car sponsoring a brand of tobacco is the reason a kid decides to buy a packet of cigarettes is rubbish. I started when I went to college because a lot of my peers were, when I left college and not in a constantly in a social bubble where it was the norm I quit. Majority don't start due to sponsorship of a race team of football strip, it is because parents and society and government keep telling them not to and it's an act of rebellion driven by curiosity, and where one starts their inner circle follow like sheep especially if the cool kids are doing it. If you put signs everywhere saying sale prohibition to under 16s the more a 13 year old hangs around the shops to see if they can get a passing adult to get them a packet.

My boss not only made his money off Nascar driver's aircraft but was a huge fan. I remember he pulled me to the side and said to help him do a friend a "favor". I emptied a large hanger out and put in a very nice Lear jet. A man then covered the tail numbers with his vinyl "company" logo and took pics. I got it by mistake when I purchased a different F1 scale model but they sent me the T-Minus one, never got the one I wanted but at the time the two models were the same price so I didn't feel too screwed by the seller. You do realise that the word Soccer comes from Oxford and is slang for Association. This goes back to when Union was called football too! I use both soccer and football, football has become more common Aussie Rules is about 5 years older than Rugby and Association and both codes of football don't make there way here for 20 years, when it would have been common for English to call it soccer! Before Aussie rules, Rugby(Union+League), Association or Gaelic Footballs where codified there where many variations and from the mid 19th century Football began to become codified in various forms, the oldest of which is Australian Rules Football or just Aussie Rules or Footy! So It's referred to as Soccer Because English migrants in the 1880's called it that and it stuck!

Tobacco advertising is outlawed in many countries because it literally encourages people to pick up habits that cause addiction and subsequent deterioration of health, causing big companies to make a profit out of people's addiction and their health. Alcohol on the other hand is not biologically addictive, and also way less harmful, so it's still allowed in most places. Both should be banned if you ask me. Heineken for example sponsors many races, but they try to cover for themselves making a point about not drinking and driving.

It only works if you are able to get the money back out somehow. So your dope selling shell advertiser puts money into team Smok-em, who then puts the cappo's invisible stooges on the payroll, and the cappo's men get the money, pay taxes on the money, and it becomes clean. Of course that requires team Smok-em not to fire the cappo's invisible mechanics when they don't show up for work. That is going to at some point raise flags on team Smok-em... like when they land in country XYZ, they find all their stuff impounded.

So Marlboro puts ads to fake companies on cars, knowing that watchdogs will see and investigate them. Marlboro intentionally leaves a trail of breadcrumbs back to them, and because it's not anything heinous to sneak ads on a car, nobody hates them and everybody talks about them. Brilliant.

Marlboro has been sponsoring Ferrari’s F1 team for years. Problem is that in a lot of countries, it’s actually against the law to advertise tobacco in anyway. Not just Australia, Canada as well. Most developed nations ban cigarette advertising at least.

i also dont get why tobacco brands are banned and on the other hand everything seems to be plastered with liquor brands (heineken comes to my mind) they should at least have some consistency in their advertising. I mean dont get me wrong, as much as i miss the Marlboro Ferraris, its good that events that are watched by a huge audience arent plastered with tobacco ads, but shouldnt ads for alcohol (a substance that is not really less unhealthy) be bannned too?

Once I read an article about tobacco sponsor ban in 2006, it satirically told that F1 teams should be sponsored by pharmaceutical companies instead (imagining if it truly happened, we would see like maybe Pfizer Williams or GSK McLaren, lol)
