#AnetteOlzon #JaniLiimatainen #TheDarkElement
THE DARK ELEMENT is a musical project featuring vocalist Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) and Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen (Insomnium, Cain's Offering).
“Songs The Night Sings” takes off where the self-titled debut left off, with immaculate vocals from Anette and fabulous anthems written by Jani.
"It’s a thrill that we’re releasing yet another album and for me it’s been even easier to record this one since me and Jani now know each other really well. For me, this album is bigger and better and I believe the ones who liked the first one will really like this one too. All I can say is that I already long to do another album. Hep hep!" says Anette.
Jani adds, "I think the album is very heavy, but still hyper melodic, and this time we are even exploring new musical territories we didn't on the previous album. Now that me and Anette have one album together under our belts, we have found the style we want to pursue and also the ideal way of working together. Given all this, I think it's safe to say that with this album you'll get even more of what made the first album so good, only it's gonna be bigger, better and bolder!"
THE DARK ELEMENT made their live debut in June 2018 at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden. They also completed a short Japanese tour and performed at the Frontiers Rock Sweden festival in October at Fryshuset Klubben in Stockholm. More tour dates are planned for this upcoming album, so expect to see the band on stage again soon.
Since word of this project initially got out, fans were frothing at the mouth with anticipation for its arrival. And no wonder considering the talent involved! Anette is widely known for being the immaculate voice on the hit albums from Nightwish, “Dark Passion Play” and “Imaginareum”. Jani has recently been busy in Insomnium as well as Cain's Offering alongside Stratovarius singer Timo Kotipelto, but left a deep mark on the minds of all power metal fans thanks to his time in Sonata Arctica. The resulting debut album released in November 2017 took no time to prove that the resume of the individuals involved did indeed add up to the musical output.

I never got what "limited range" to criticize Anette was supposed to mean. Her voice is gorgeous. She reaches super highs (Storytime) and lows (Slow Love Slow). Her live performances (I've seen her twice with NW) are uplifting, warm and energetic. She's kind and accessible (I was on front row and she hugged and kissed with some girls next to me, then held my hands as I congratulated her.) Without any effort, without any growl or screaming or operatics, her pristine, unique and expressive voice gets to your heart. She hits the right chord naturally and that makes her powerful. Yet the people bring out reasons for hating at her by the thousands. People are mad, and that's no news.

Most of her haters are just rude. They dont understand vocal tone or timbre and assume that every style is meant for every singer. Anette has a more Jazz/Rock/Pop voice. She doesnt have a metal voice nor a classical voice... however she COULD easily have a bright classical voice if she trained for it. Her falsettos and head voice are gorgeous! She's growled and used distorted vocals before many times. She is my favorite!

Annete was the kind of singer Toumas was looking for at that time. hell Joanna (his solo work singer and wife) has the same kind of voice. The problem with Annette was she was incosistant as hell live. I saw nightwish twice in the same tour with her. Night to night they were changing tunings etc to deal with her voice issues. Which that's not a huge deal for marco and empuu but when you take into account the backing tracks and toumas having to suddenly play everything in a different key its a major pain in the ass. The reason they did everything in D Standard or Drop C on the decades tour was for Marco since he had just had throat issues and floor could sing it that low. With annette sometimes they were uptuned, sometimes down, and rarely did she sound as good as the album. They didn't have to do that shit for tarja, they don't have to do it for floor, and they didn't even have to do it in denver for Alissa and Elize.

  • @maxrav1831

@@JaxRiens So how did they manage to transpose the backing tracks? And why is there no filmed example of them changing key or downtuning? I am smelling some bull here unless there is an example of your claims and BTW Floor has plenty of off nights as well, she like Annette is only human and Thomos has a ridiculous gig schedule especially in South America the reason him and Tarja parted ways.

"Songs The Night Sings" I used to wish and wonder everyday Close my eyes and see where it would take me I'd get lost in my dreams when I was a girl, was a child Restless heart and mind still open wide Running careless under clear and blue skies Even then I did know that one day I would Walk away from the ones who'd enslave me Every pain, every soul who would stain me Leave behind little town where I once swore I will never die here Through the forest of green I will wonder Underneath starry skies I will slumber I will climb every hill, every mountain Till I've seen them all I wanna live the stories I write See the whole world with my own eyes Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings I wanna feel the flame when it burns Wanna feel the pain when it hurts Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings And now that I've seen just a little, not a lot But I know who I am and who I am not I could weep for the ones who stumble through life like they're lost Heedless hearts and eyes that must be blind Living joyless under pale and grey skies I just want them to know that right now they could Board the ship, hoist the sail, weigh the anchor Set a course right towards the horizon We can sail every sea, every ocean Till we've seen them all I wanna live the stories I write See the whole world with my own eyes Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings I wanna feel the flame when it burns Wanna feel the pain when it hurts Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings I wanna live the stories I write See the whole world with my own eyes Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings I wanna feel the flame when it burns Wanna feel the pain when it hurts Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings I wanna live the stories I write See the whole world with my own eyes Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings I wanna feel the flame when it burns Wanna feel the pain when it hurts Take the unknown trail And hear the songs the night sings

Yeah, they started to suck when he left. Jani about the Unia album: “It’s not my favourite out of the albums I’ve done with them. It’s my least favourite, actually. Unia got mixed reviews. Some people liked it a lot and some people really disliked it. I’m kind of leaning on the disliking side as well because it just got too experimental for my taste. It kind of lost that red line bringing us to the things we were supposed to do, like hooks and melodies. Instead we were trying out a lot of weird shit (laughs).” Haha!

@@alexi.e.roivainen I liked Unia, personally. It wasn't even bad album as a whole, compared to their latest releases. Well, every album had their moments after Jani left. TDoG had Flag in the Ground, The Last Amazing Grays,, all the bonus tracks, Stones had Wildfires & and all the bonus tracks (at least), Pariah had Blood, What Did You Do In The War, Dad?, Running Lights & No Pain and Ninth Hour had Till Death's Done Us Apart, We Are What We Are, Among The Shooting Stars, The Elephant. Those were kind of my favorites lol. But as I said, as a whole, I liked Unia more than their latest releases. It was still heavy and good mixing, and it sound good.

She had kind of an attitude problem sir within NW. Not showing up, walking away during concerts when she gets emotional, NOT using head / mixed voice (the reason why she was limited in her range) Live she is not that powerful and yes, I saw her live with NW in Serbia (Nexit festival) which was a bad performance. Sorry. It is on You Tube and just listen honestly and critical. It was really painful to hear. She shines at studio albums, which is totally fine. That is not hate, that is my opinion about her as a singer/performer. It is time that we stop calling critique, hate all the time.

Carlos j.carlos that’s exactly what most haters refuse to understand. Anette is a phenomenal singer, but having her sing the songs that were written for Tarja’s voice wasn’t working. But she’s really good when you let her sing in her own style. Something you can see and hear in The Islander and Amaranth. I mean, I hear Floor’s version, and as much as I love Floor, it’s just not the same. In my opinion, if Anette would have been allowed to show her true talent, both her and Floor would still be singing in Nightwish. Imagine that. Then again, I’m also glad that she didn’t just give up, and did her own thing. It’s working and she’s amazing as ever!

I'm not sure but when I saw her at concert she looked really sad and was trying hard to hide it and forced smiles. I felt bad for her and i really liked her as NW singer, she didn't deserve all the hate cause she's an amazing singer. I wonder if that's the reason things got worse between the band, like she was going through a hard time and couldn't keep up but the band needed to do shows to work.

It was so bad he actually left NW and took a keyboardist job for another band but their singer sounded like Anette so God was sending him a message I guess, but talk about poetic justice AND cruel irony. The Dark Element is both critically acclaimed and have had very solid sales numbers above Nightwish. Nightwish money comes from concerts not from cd's or lp's. At some point this band may be doing global tours too......it the ghost of Anette Olzon and its going to haunt the ever living hell out of those anti fem guys in Kitee Finland. Just sayin.....

Then to have Anette singing Tarja songs... we know Anette is good with HER voice but the songs that were suited for Tarja (most anyway) didnt sound so great with Anette and she was the least consistent Live singer compared to Tarja and Floor. I think its rude how they treated her but i also kind of get why they felt that way. But here she is in her own group with a man who knows how to write songs best suited for Anette to sing. No reason to compare her here cause there was no previous singer. I love The Dark Element and even if it sounds Nightwishy ... i love it cause i miss Anette in Nightwish and now shes in this band.

That's not because of Anette, but because of Thuomas. The song's wheren't all perfect imo. I like Storytime from Imginarium and Dark Passion Play from DPP. But the rest of the songs are a little bit common, if you know what i mean. Look how good she is right now.

Her era of Nightwish was outstanding and she has only continued to kill it with The Dark Element. I am so glad we have this record. It is stellar and so much better than the latest NW effort.
