The Dangers of Oxalate Toxicity

Think you might be gluten sensitive? Take the quiz:
www.glutenfreesociety.org/glu...
In this video, Dr. Osborne and Sally K. Norton, MPH discuss the importance of understanding the potential risks of certain dietary choices.
Oxalate is a substance found in certain foods that can be harmful to our bodies if we consume too much of it. Different people have different tolerances for oxalate, so it's hard to measure exactly how much is too much for each person. However, we know that consuming a high amount of oxalate can be fatal, like in the example of eating too many rhubarb leaves.
The time it takes to heal from oxalate-related issues can vary for each person, but some people start feeling better within a few days of starting a low-oxalate diet.

Been through this, it’s real. Could not get out of bed summer of 2021: tissue pain, joint pain, overall pain to the point of not functioning. Had been hitting the spinach and almond milk smoothies hard trying to help heal 2 broken wrists and was keto for years prior. Took some digging but found an article by sally in a urology journal and all symptoms matched. Dumping was horrible: more pain, fatigue, literal gritty crystals coming out of my eyes every morning, intense skin and tissue pain. I am now 100% carnivore and doing amazing. It takes time though for clearing , prepare yourself.

She is right about oxalates attacking damaged joints. I have been carnivore for number of years. I started eating baking chocolate and with in a week my hip joints were killing me and I did not have any new injuries. It only took a few days for the pain to go away after I stopped eat the chocolate.

For thousands of years we peeled and boiled our veg while eating fresh and seasonal. These issues only began in the last 50 years when people started raw juicing, raw vegetable in salads salads, undercooked vegetables in stir frys, processed garbage and year round availability of special occasional foods like nuts, chocolates and "plant" milk.

I bought Sally's book Toxic Superfoods, it's been an absolutely game changer in the amount of pain i have now. I would recommend it to everybody who experiences Fibromyalgia, joint pains, muscle pains, kidney/bladder pain, just try lowering your oxalates and with 7 days you will feel a huge difference. If oxalates are not your cause at least you're not out of pocket and know to try something else 😊

I just watched the "red light" episode with Ari Whitten, so I checked out his material, and he's written extensively and scholarly about the "low carb myth" and one of his books has a potato on the cover...so I literally just read about all that, and then came here and found out most of that is putting crystals in my kidneys, and no culprit does it better than the dreaded potato featured front-and-center on Dr Whitten's book! I think I'm just going to start eating dirt and hair like one of those crazies on My Strange Addiction. hahaha, what are we supposed to doooo???? 😅

Once I started on carnivore my inflammation stopped, my finger joints are gradually returning to normal size and able bend them again. What I didn't expect was oxalate dumping within a couple of weeks. It was like glass coming out of my eyes and one eyebrow. I believe my saliva ducts are also affected. I'm trying to counter it by eating a small amount of dark chocolate. I had no idea about oxalates and when I started researching, realised I'd been in the very high category for years. Now I know why health issues have plagued me my whole adult life.

My process from some mid oxalate foods to zero is at glacial pace because I am allergic to or intolerant of gelatin and gristly meats. I overeat all manner of fish and shellfish. I am allergic to eggs and dark meat poultry. I have severe sulfur intolerance. Our nation's soil is oxylobacter depleted.

Look in his video history...he JUST had a double pHD on here a couple days ago, who's scholarly publications he admires, to talk about benefits of red light therapy...if you go to this guy's site, he has this MASSIVE pile of literature ?proving? that (clean) carbs are not the enemy, keto is great as a periodic detox of glucose reserves in the liver and blood, but NOT healthy long-term, and that our bodies burn carb-derived glucose for energy very efficiently and for a reason, and that returning to caveman diet is longing for a time when we lived to the age of 25 because we were too stupid to figure out agriculture, which vastly improved global malnutrition epidemics. One of his books actually has a huge potato on the cover, and not even 20 minutes later I'm watching this lady say they're putting rocks in my pee and are literally the worst culprit of all the natural foods. So ....now I think I'm gonna pick up my old teenage habit of just eating Skittles for every meal and see where that takes me, 'cause I feel like I'm always watching a nutritional tennis match with these highly esteemed doctors saying diametrically opposing things. I'm not being critical, it's his show, but I think I'd have been like...."I just heard the opposite and here's their evidence, do you think it makes a strong argument?" I feel like if you're gonna heal people and get to the bottom of a century of misinformation about nutrition, we're gonna have to talk it out, not just nod our heads at smart people. Sorry for the rant lol, but I JUST left the same kind of comment an hour before you did.

@@thirstonhowellthebirdandfriend I try to let the vegans know (the ones that don't outright reject alternate perspectives) that they should take a basic nutrition class (a holistic one, not administered by the same ppl who made the incredibly upside down food pyramid) before drawing a line in the sand with any diet. It's a lot of reading, adapting, and consistency required to be remotely successful at supplementing what the body gets from animal proteins. It can be done, but you don't wanna watch a 30 minute presentation by a massage therapist with a plastic face that's calling herself a "medical professional" and get all hyped on the "brand new you" and end up taking 3 years off of your lifespan from the shock you put your body through. Drastic protein change is not something ya wanna mess with if you don't understand their roles, and the drastically different ways the body metabolizes plant and animal proteins. Every single kid needs to have a genetic nutrition profile panel ran showing their unique genomic needs, and about 90% of those v@cc1nes on the childhood schedule would no longer be a concern, because their bodies could fend for themselves. It blows my mind that any kid is sent out into the world not knowing what to feed their bodies. It's kind of a big deal... So, when those vegans hit a wall after 5 years, is it because they didn't take them time to learn protein metabolism, or did they crystallize their guts? We probably won't know, and that's not good.

You have some excellent points! One area (along with this discussion) is that one type of diet / exercise routine etc varies from person to person. I never understood why group studies following a certain type diet had ~ 1/3rd doing well, another 1/3rd neutral and the last 1/3rd doing worse. I finally found an answer that worked for me, which was diet specific to blood type. That directly ties into ancestral backgrounds that equates into how our bodies can metabolize our food. If our digestive process (and subsequent immune system) are constantly working overtime to metabolize the "wrong" foods, little to nothing is left to fight off allergies, general illness, diseases, etc. Resulting in us setting ourselves up for chronic illnesses and general wellbeing issues. High level examples include: O blood type can consume large amounts of beef, whereas A blood type cannot properly metabolize beef, and so on. This like many aspects for who we are fundamentally drives the quality of our existence, are key to a healthy life. Our food sources are an entirely different conversation altogether. Thx :) @@sisterseeth
