Kim Refro literally wrote the book guide to Game of Thrones, I love that we get her input now that hotD is getting to defining episodes.

Something missed by you guys: Cristin Cole sent the men from the Crownlands who he forced to join his army onto the battlefield FIRST before sending any Green Targaryen/Hightower men. This is truly a brilliant strategic move because he baited the Blacks into deploying one of their dragons to kill THEIR OWN MEN before using Vhagar to take them out, minimizing loss of loyal soldiers. It would have been the perfect plan if Aegon hadn’t interrupted them.

Wasn't just dragon blood. It was boiling blood that probably killed the people covered/sprayed. Brutal but a cool touch.

"Drink and drive his dragon"? Surely that should be "Drink and Dragon"? Or maybe "Flagon Dragon"?

Do you think that Damon saying that young Tully should put a pillow over the head of Grover Tully is a little foreshadowing for aemond and the possibly still alive aegon

It's interesting that you guys are assuming that the ending was a cliffhanger, while some other critics are assuming Aegon is dead. In situations like this, it's best if book readers do not say anything. It reminds me of a situation on Shogun, when we are led to believe that Mariko might secretly have slept with Blackthorne. It is not clear, but you David, in your review of the episode, assumed it was the case. You never left room for the ambiguity. Some critics weren't sure, others, who had not read the book or seen the original series, were not sure either. Unfortunately, one particular critic, who interviewed the showrunners confirmed it was the case, which was not cool IMO.

I thought Rhaenys should have retreated after felling Sunfyre. Dragonstone was close by and she could have called for reinforcements

There would have been none, she *was* the reinforcement. Rooster Keep was going to be lost even without Dragons, leaving Daemon unchallenged would have spelled a an immediate loss. There was no time to withdraw and regroup

@@digitalarsenal5234 The Keep was always going to be lost, I agree. I just think the priority should have shifted from protecting the castle to felling Vhagar once her presence was known. And reinforcements were definitely needed for that.

@@GabrielBaker-nj8zl I mean, that could have been an option (and a logical one) but there's all sorts of considerations: if the keep fell, she could have been seen as a coward, or the Black's dragons as weaker. Despite having a smaller dragon, Rhaenys was a far more experienced rider, she could have thought that without Aegon and Sunfyre in the picture, she could have taken Aemond on...

To quote Lord of the Rings, “Open War is upon you whether you risk it or not.” Westeros continues to prove, Monarchy is one of the worst forms of government combined with shitty parenting; it’s a catastrophe. Alicent frustrated daddy wasn’t on the council, chose to shit on Aegon II (who never wanted to be King) which triggered him to hop on a dragon and head into war unaware of Aemond & Cole’s battle plans…leading him to basically burned alive on a Westeros version of a gun ship armed with nuclear weapons. Good job Team Green. Not! Meanwhile Rhaeneyra might have been Viserys’ chosen one. Like her father, she’s soft and has sowed the seeds of her own problems. The men in her life were horrific choices. Sir Criston “Friend Zone” Cole, Break Bones Strong, Daemon ALL had serious anger issues, loose canons, and ultimately made her life more complicated. While the Green Party are ambitious back stabbers, the Black Flag Party was “wait and see.” Viserys was a terrible father. He did not prepare Rhaeneyra to lead at court. She thought that she could politically get the Hightowers to give up the throne by dressing as the Flying Nun. Why the hell would they give up the throne when their lands were forever changed by Aegon Targaryen!? Instead she gives Cole, the Eddie Guerrero of Westeros and Daemon all the time to box in Rhaenyra’s support.

1:20:53 Hyping future episodes is something that I personally do not appreciate. And it is something that fans and critics are both guilty of. I have seen many critics who have received multiple episodes of a show in advance, and who deliberately hype specific episodes to their audience, when the show hasn't even aired yet. For eg, I remember one specific critic who had hyped episode 3 of The Last of Us. It really annoyed me. HYPING SPEICIFIC EPISODES OR SEASONS OF A SHOW IS SPOILING. Hypic specific characters when audiences haven't had the chance to really know them is also spoiling. Eg: All the #GoT fans who hype Jaime when you're barely started the first season.

K Dave, you have to stop with the A-MUNDDD pronunciation 😂 no one thinks we are discussing a maester who lives 200 years in the future and has not been mentioned once in this current show.
