Katie is either more empathetic or more insightful about LGBTQ fanbases because she is basically the only one who seem to understand in that moment that what was happening would offend the LGBTQ fanbases as well as people who believe that shipping is part of the wonder of fantasy and that it should be okay to interpret characters in anyway. Yeah, probably! U know why?! Because Kara is STRAIGHT! So yeah, obviously if she had this chemistry with a male character they’d be more likely to have a ship. Because no matter what you say or how much you want it, you can’t just will a character to be gay. If a character is straight, she’s not going to fall for a female character. Unless you are ultra, hyper sensitive, and have an agenda you are trying to force onto other people. That some of the community's idiots have been fiercely attacking the cast - even making personal threats - is a sign of an imbalanced mind. The community needs to dial it WAY back and take a more realistic look at who they are, their relative size to the public as a whole, and stop being driven into a frenzy every time they perceive a comment or action is not dreamily perfect to their specifications.

....do these actors not understand what shipping is? Most Supercorp fans KNOW it won't ever happen. thats not the point. some of the most popular fictional pairings aren't canon in the source material. fans don't care. they ship anyway and i admire them for maintaining pairings with little to no content. There's not a huge amount of wlw pairing on tv so sometimes the fans have to imagine there is. can't the cast AT LEAST let them have that??

It's like how you surely don't love every straight relationship on tv. Some are boring, have no chemistry, are not interesting individually etc. So few tv couples actually interest you to start with, then imagine that number significantly reduced. Then factor that the lgbt character is usually a side character, and there's your problem. Alex is obviously pretty central but coupling her up has also been a bit of a knock on her characterisation, so not perfect

There is this wonderful interview/gif of Mark Hamil responding on a similar situation when a young male fan asked him if Luke Skywalker could be gay. This poor kid was apparently having a very tough time with his sexuality and found something in a character that he thought he could relate to. And Mark's answer to this kid was the epitome of what professionalism and responding to fandom should be about. This mocking, snarky song regarding Supercorp is the exact opposite of professionalism and understanding that Mark displayed. And this SG cast wasn't even prompted to bring up Supercorp at all. Like, they had no reason to even do it, but you can't help but feel like they definitely had an desire to undercut a part of the fandom that sees something in characters that they don't necessarily see. And it doesn't even matter how the actors may personally perceive it, it is how they handle themselves in a public space/fandom space that is very telling about their character.

You have no clue WTF you're talking about. The cast by Sat afternoon was exhausted, after getting pounded by tens of thousands of fans and wanted to let loose a bit. They've also been getting hammered on social media for days, if not weeks about this attempt by a slice of the viewing audience trying to insert their perspective onto the show, and finally reacted. Most people would have been much more direct about it.

So exhaustion and being hungover is an acceptable reason to act unprofessionally and mock a part of the fandom? There are much better ways to address issues, or have their PR address issues, with a very small subset of problematic fandom than to make snarky and blanket statements in retaliation. This is just my opinion and I know they are human, but they have to also understand that they are in a public space representing their employer and will be scrutinized for how they present themselves and the tone and messaging that they are sending out.

I might be one of the rare few, but as a bisexual woman who totally ships Supercorp, I didn't find this offensive at all. They were having fun creating a musical recap of the show, and in their high spirits, might have gotten a bit carried away, but that was all it was for me. And to be honest, I think it's actually good that they're not queer baiting by leading fans on with a "Will they, won't they?" type thing. Melissa and Katie also got more serious about it later on, and when Katie gave that really beautiful and thoughtful answer as people have pointed out, you can hear Melissa verbally agreeing to it with a definitive "Yup." If Chyler and Floriana had been there, they might've also had more to contribute to the subject and kept the conversation more grounded since they're more involved with the LGBTQIA+ community, but unfortunately they weren't. Regardless, anyone who has followed the cast of Supergirl knows that they're all beautiful souls with big hearts and they love their fans, whoever one might choose to ship, so I don't think they deserve all this negativity they're getting over this one interview.

This show isn’t about ships, it’s about the comics and it’s about Supergirl. The show isn’t called Supercorp or Karamel for a reason. It’s based on Kara Zor-El’s life, not really her relationships.

darthman vader Imo, Sanvers is rather shallow in terms of development and screen time. I wasn't much of a fan and preferred SC. Mostly because it reminded me of Buffy and Faith / Xena and Gabrielle. I'm not exactly happy about this stupid song but what really killed my excitement for season 3 is Kara questioning "Kara Danvers". If I wanted SuperBrood, I'd watch BvS Ultimate Edition again

Edit: I'm NOT saying that the show has NO representation. I'm talking about the way the actors behave. supercorp is basically bechloe all over again, but with bechloe the pitch perfect cast is pretty much into it and supports its fans.

Supergirl was a great female superhero show when it was on CBS, and when it moved to the CW I was excited to see crossovers between their other DC TV shows. But then the second season was bittersweet because Kara became a background character in her own show to a misogynistic slave owner, but conversely Sanvers became a thing. Once Mon-El got kicked off of Earth I was really hopeful for Supercorp as well as Kara as a character since it seemed that she was back to her optimistic season one self. But now, not only do I feel less excited with speculation about Mon-El's return, but Floriana's disappearance from the main cast as well as the lack of Sanvers mention in this video angers me. And as a cast of a TV show who is literally only at Comic Con because of their fans, this cast sure does a great job of making them feel awful for having opinions about it. (Except you, Katie. You're doing great, sweetie.) A lot of their viewers came from the existence of LGBT+ representation, and the homophobic mockery, their absence of acknowledgement of the only canon LGBT ship, as well as shaming of such a big portion of fans is so disappointing and unprofessional.

Okay but did anyone else hear mel singing "a girlfriend!" around 1:39? Just noticed it and I'm dead lmao.

I honestly didn't want to address this, but this has gotten way out of hand. As a black lesbian woman, I have been blatantly disrespected whether it has been behind my back or right to my face for something I cannot control, no matter how hard I tried. But people are taken what happened way out of hand. First and for most, as someone who has followed this cast since it started, anyone with half a brain would realize this was not meant to offend anyone. If this has hurt you I am deeply sorry, but leaving hate on anyone's IG pages or Twitter because they are "hurt", has never been okay. I have read comments where fans talk about being disrespected and yet tell another human being to kill themselves and how their career is ended. Are you serious right now? Being a part of the LGBTQ+ community should have showed you that words hurt. Honestly, if you didn't like what happened, you can tell them, but being disrespectful will not help our situation or make it better. I disagree with most of you and I hope that you get thicker skin because this is ridiculous. P.S. Why would anyone apologize after receiving hate from thousands of people for just saying the truth? Yeah, I know I wouldn't. By the way I fucking LIVE for Supercorp, but I realize that it will never be canon, so I read fanfics all day. I suggest you do the same. I however will mention that people make mistakes and that what was said shouldn't have been said, but sometimes people not in our community don't realize how hurtful shit like this can be...

As an actual lesbian, I find the hate comments way more insulting than what the cast was saying. Leave the cast alone. If you feel offended, then that’s your issue. I say this because (as hard as us fans wish it) SuperCorp will never happen. It is not canon. Also, the Daxamites know not of their corruption. Hence all the partying. So, can we just call down? The cast was not making fun of lesbians in general. If a fictional non-canon ship offends you when it’s attacked....then you probably need help. Just saying. This show has a cast who works hard. And they’ve gone through so much hate. As a group they experianced death threats. If a cast can stick together through all that shit.....then I’m going to be loyal to their show. Haters will hate. It’s sad but true. But I’m going to stand up for the cast, my LGBT community, and the logic of reality. It’s a show. My show. Their show. If our show offends you, then that really sucks. It was disrepectful because it was so out of context, abrupt, and unnecessary. It was not homophobic, but yelling about a ship that people feel for passionately, especially an lgbtq one that most fans already know won't happen, just feels like a punch in the gut. Even if it wasn't directly harmful and ultimately a joke, getting screamed at about something you feel passionate about that isn't hurting anybody doesn't feel good, and it was certainly unprofessional. Nonetheless, everyone is entitled to their feelings.

The thing that bothers me about these comments is some people trying to brush off the people who speak out about the things that were disrespectful in this, you may not agree but listen to your argument, some people are trying to say things like "you're ignoring that they already have lgbt representation" as if we should excuse everything they do because they gave us one couple, as if we shouldn't complain because they gave us something, as if it's weird to ask for more, we got one couple that has been confirmed that next season, one half of the couple won't even be a season regular anymore I'm just disturbed that people are using this attitude of YOU'VE ALREADY GOT SOMETHING, STOP TRYING TO GET MORE as if we haven't had to deal with every hetero pairing they could fit in with always a possibility of more to come, also having to deal with the fact that even though we've accepted that there's a low chance of it actually happening(becoming canon), we're still not happy with what the show has done, most of us plainly don't like Mon-El as a character and would be perfectly content with Kara and James (which not to forget that they built that up to throw him to the side for a disrespectful white guy who got a pass for every bad thing he's ever said or did since "he's learning")(also add that little fact to the whole J'onn/M'gann thing where they built up something that would be great and then sent M'gann away) And to address the other excuse(the actors have all been attacked by supercorp fans): Stop assuming this entire fanbase is toxic, we're not, we can't help that there's terrible people in the fandom who blatantly disrespect the actors, most of us generally avoid those people (there's a whole group of people who are plain disrespectful who most of us do our best to avoid) and we don't support their behavior, stop thinking the majority is toxic, because actually a lot of them are just nice people providing to a fandom who support something they know have a low chance of actually becoming canon and they're really cool people and most of the toxic part of our fandom only shows through because of toxic karamel fans who rile them up and sometimes they can't just sit back and listen to people disregarding/disrespecting them (like some of the cast in this video) and then others use that to represent all of us, sorry for ranting, this subject just bothers me in how people think our fandom is toxic and don't even point out how other parts of the supergirl fandom are just as bad and sometimes worse, we just want to live in our fantasy world in peace instead of being put down by actors we looked up to, that's all, just take into consideration how you'd feel if people you looked up to made fun of something you were passionate about knowing that many people, not just you, love it, it hurts...

I love Sanvers (I cried when Alex came out) and I've always shipped supercorp, and to see these people who I admired laughing and making fun of fans, fans like me, who understand that a show on a channel like the CW obviously isn't going to have more than one f/f relationship, is just horrible. So thank you cast of Supergirl, for making fun of me and blatantly ignoring our struggle for representation.

Mikayla Toyne They weren't making fun of you as an individual or ANY LGBT+ human being. They were simply stating that Supercorp is not and will not happen. They weren't mean or demeaning. They were laughing and playing around with things that did and did NOT happen in season 2. If one of them were to say supercorp is "ridiculous" or "pathetic" THAT would be different. That would be insensitive! That would be wrong! They did not. You can ship whoever you want. That's great, in fact I would love a little supercorp action myself. As a bi woman I agree with this comment so much. It must be awkward for actors of (any gender or any ship) to be shipped and more awkward to be asked about it further I think relationships in film will always be an awkward topic but for two straight women to be shipped together it can get awkward and I think maybe some of the cast tried to defuse that. I think this interview was just friends joking about.

Soooooo, I know this is from 3 years ago but I wanted to try and explain my point of view. The fact the Jeremy and the others shouted "THEY'RE JUST FRIENDS/ NOTHING IS GONNA HAPPEN" isn't really appropriate. We get that, we know it's not gonna happen, but we still have a tiny bit of hope and they just jumped on it and completely crushed it. Then, during the recap they didn't mention Alex nor Sanvers, and I get it, the actresses weren't there, but it's still an important part of the show! Alex's coming out and the Sanvers relationship were two of the best character arcs in season 2, they could have at least mentioned it. Katie and David never talk much, and it's a bit sad because we'd like to hear what they have to say, a bit more seriously sometimes, and instead it's just singing and being silly all the time. Don't get me wrong, I like it, I just wish sometimes they would take things with more professionalism and seriousness.

Why are people working so hard to start drama. When Jeremy said they are only friends, she started hysterically laughing. She wasn’t awkward about it. Everyone is trying to start drama and it’s ridiculous. Let the cast joke around and have fun

I agree, Eliza Taylor and Alycia Debnam Carey love the Clexa fandom and support it the whole way... They were just as crushed as we were with Lexa's death (RIP) but this was just disrespectful and rude to a large percentile of fans on the SG show. With The 100, it was the writers and Jason, with SG, the actors have fucked it up for themselves. The only thing I will commend about this video is Katie McGrath being the goddess she is and trying to fix the issue by saying that people can basically follow who they want how they want and Odette didnt say much either so i cant comment on her but the rest of the cast just laughed and joked. I can't actually follow Supercorp anymore now, knowing I'm being mocked about it and I highly doubt I'll watch this season which is sad because I had high hopes for it with Reign finally coming in, it was like finally a SG only villain instead of all the Superman/Supergirl/Superboy villains.

I don't ship SC nor am I in the LGBTQ community so I'm not trying to tell you what to do but if it were me I would show them that they can laugh at all they want but nothing is gonna stop me from shipping who I want. The thing that impressed me the most out of this interview is how Jeremy did it with the full knowledge that the "joke" was offensive and would "get destroyed" for "debunking Supercorp" to then turn around and issue an "apology" about how hurtful the LGBT community is being to him when he did it by "accident". Brotha, you knew exactly what you were doing, and to turn it around on the fandom and say they are the hurtful ones because they are making you feel bad on purpose is so low that I honestly can't care about your entire career as an LGBT "ally". Today you were not an ally, your actions of the past do not erase the amount of anger and mockery that you put behind your words during that musical recap and your apology is nothing but you putting the blame on the community for reacting exactly as you expected them to. I am beyond disappointed with this cast. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Jeremy Jordan did not say a single word that was homophobic in this entire interview. Saying that two characters were not in a relationship is not being homophobic. He did not say that being gay was bad. He did not say that shipping was wrong. He did absolutely nothing wrong. If you could point out a single moment where Jeremy was being intentionally disrespectful towards the LGBTQA+ community, then I'd change my opinion. But from what I can see, he said nothing wrong. Besides, may I point out that Jeremy works in Musical Theatre, a workplace in which it is very hard to be homophobic, as you are practically surrounded by people part of the LGBTQA+ community. From the way I see it, Jeremy Jordan did not say a single word that could be offensive in anyway.

The cast all knew at this point James and Lena were going to be a couple. That is probably the reason why Jeremy said what he did. It was s spoiler without actually spoiling it. It must have been hard not to use the knowledge of what was coming up in the season to defend himself when the hate started!

I just hope that if Chyler was here she wouldn't laugh and shut them down!!

Honestly, can someone just explain to me what the problem is? I genuinely don't understand why everyone is so upset. Jeremy was just joking around when he made that song, and all you SuperCorp fans keep saying that you know that the ship will never happen, and that they will only ever be friends, so what's the problem? How did he "invalidate" your sexuality when there already is a lesbian couple on the show with a huge following? I just really don't understand what the problem is and I'm trying to understand. Ok it's been 3 years but Idc I'm still gonna answer your questions. The problems are more than one: -in the recap they completely ignored Alex and Maggie. I get it, the actresses weren't there, but they still could have at least mentioned it. Alex's coming out and the Sanvers relationship were a really big part of season 2 and many fans loved it (me included) -Jeremy and the others shouting "THEY'RE JUST FRIENDS/ IT'S NEVER GONNA HAPPEN" it's unprofessional, hurtful and not respectful. How? Well, many people ship SuperCorp, and even tho we know it's probably not gonna happen, we still have the tiniest bit of hope. By saying that, they practically crushed that hope and invalidated that ship. We get it, they're kidding and it just for fun, but many people were hurt by this. -Have you seen the numbers of likes/dislikes? There are more people who disliked this video, and it's only because of these things. So, yes, maybe it's silly, but it's still a problem.
