Another fun thing that I remember reading somewhere when Galar came out was that 4 and 9 are considered unlucky numbers in Japan. The word for 4 is close to the word for "death" and the word for 9 is close to the word for "pain" or "agony", can't remember. TM49 is also Sand Tomb which kinda fits the whole thing. If we look at Norse myth instead of Japanese, Runestones were meant to display something someone did when they were alive, because Norse put more weight in actions, just like Sarcophagus were meant to look like the Pharao that was buried inside, since Egyptians put more weight in looks. So, in a way, both of them are just the representation of something human. It will happen, they will tell us all humans eventually turn into Ghosts!

Sarcophagus comes from sarc for "flesh" and phagus for "eat" (same origin as esophagus,) so the coffin completely taking over whatever humanity remains of the spirit inside is quite fitting. Mirrors the King Ramses slab overtaking Galarian Yamask, too.

Why is cofagrigus considered inappropriate? Is this similar to how you couldn't use a froslass online in gen 4 and 5 due to its name containing the word ass?

It contains the word fag and as such got picked up on Nintendo’s censorship networks Sane with nosepass fir containing ass and skuntank fir containing cunt

Note that the picture on the Runerigus runestone, which looks like real-life runestones depicting serpents and wyrms but is particularly associated with bad memories of something that happened in ancient times, somewhat resembles Eternatus, so could be depicting Eternatus as a visual representation of the Darkest Day...

Given that Galar was based on the UK, I don’t think it too much of a stretch to imagine that Celtic or Saxon runes might have taken possession of a Yamask in parody and ridicule to the British Museum taking possession of their collection of Egyptian artifacts.

The evolution method for galarian Yamask makes sense now

I love little Yamask/Cofagrigus...even Duskull/Dusclops. The backstory I'd love more info on is....Spiritomb! Even though it doesn't evolve, I want to know more about the 108 spirits...what did they actually do to get punished and bonded to an odd keystone. Were the spirits (before becoming spirits) human or pokemon...or a combo of both? (54 of human/54 of Pokemon) Also since ghost pokemon can, um...breed...where does the new 108 spirits come from? (Sad thought, every Galarian Yamask is "born cursed"....I need a new hobby >.< )

The spirits were most likely human! The description for the Odd Keystone says something like "sometimes you hear voices coming from it". Voices are not how they define a Pokémon noise, they define it as a cry. So I think it's fair to think about them as being human! I'm like you tho, hoping for them to show us!

I never saw Runerigus in its retracted form yet, and now I must say that this pokemon is a genius design

personally, i think the "Cofagrigus used to be human" and "ancient kings used it as a status symbol" can coexist what's it based off of? a sarcophagus. what are wealthy kings buried in as a show of status? you guessed it. the ancient carvings of Cofagrigus might simply be of the ancient kings' sarcophagi, which become posessed by a spirit, their own or another's, and become Cofagrigus

I know cofagrigus kills those that get too close, but it looks so huggable.

Yeah, but besides Galarian Corsola and the Dusknoir line, it's the only defensive mono-Ghost type, and the only mono-Ghost between gen 4 and gen 8. It would be way less interesting as a steel/ghost

4:00 the Pokémon home 3D model for cofagrigus even references this fact, as the golden parts of cofagrigus are shiny and metallic on the model. It’s also neat that the shiny form got silver in place of gold.

I don’t think the SwSh pokédex entries are conflicting. The “ghost” that is the former human turned pokémon inhabits the coffin which is a symbol of wealth of the entombed. They aren’t mutually exclusive.

Cofagrigus is such a cool Pokemon, how have I never actually used one on a Generation V playthrough?

I think arceus was born and decided to use some of it’s power to create the unknown the unknown would help arceus to create more as that is what arceus decides to create them for and so arceus used the help of the unknown to create the more legendary Pokémon that would use a lot of its power weakening it even more and those Pokémon would create more as arceus was using up to much power and that’s why arceus is weaker to some Pokémon so it’s spending a lit of its time regaining its power and I believe once it regains all its power it’ll be much stronger and have access to much more abilities that we have never seen before and arceus would be in its god state again

I gotta agree, its face looks shrunken and somewhat stiff, plus it doesn't have its closing animation which also sucks. Another peeve is why doesn't it walk on all fours in pokémon camp? If you're gonna make em 3d, why not make it walk like it actually walks?
