A great live show??? They were the absolute worst I've ever seen and I've seen a ton. They sounded great, but Ian walked out, held his mic stand like Jim Morrison and never moved until he walked off at the end. He didn't address the crowd once, and appeared like he didn't want to be there...

Ian Astbury has a very powerful voice with a strong vibrato at the end of each verse he delivers. He has a very broad forehead and face that reminds me of Charles Bronson. And yet he can look like a pretty girl when he wears makeup. And his footwork is incredible. He's also one of the most articulate and insightful artists I've ever heard. They're still playing She Sell Sanctuary on the FM radio stations after it was released 43 years ago so while they may be underrated, they'll never be outdated.

The Southern Death Cult didn't play Brixton Academy (not until they were The Cult did that happen), that was the very first, earliest incarnation of the band + they weren't playing venues that big. You're going back a good while, easy to get things wrong........ Some people on here are on about seeing them a couple of weeks ago, which is good to hear........ I have been into The Cult since I was a teenager circa mid-late 80's up till today. I seen them live at Milwaukee Summerfest on July 9, 2022 and they can still rock out. I even got my husband into The Cult! Ian's voice is a little gruff but he's been singing a long time and he had just gotten out of a mental health facility just 2 weeks prior. Billy is still in top form, plays his guitars flawlessly. I wish they would clarify that Ian is NOT Native American, he is British and Scottish. He does believe in native spirituality very much and there is nothing wrong with that because that spirituality keeps one grounded and centered which probably saved his life. I love their older songs so much but I do have their new album Under The Midnight Sun. Its very different but still beautiful in its own way. They are much older and wiser now so the music reflects a different time in their lives just as all of us are getting older and at different times in our lives. They are evolving just as many older bands are.

The Cult is one of my favorite bands. Ian Astbury's vocals sometimes remind me of Glenn Danzig. 'Electric' is their best album in my opinion, and none [of their albums] are worth skipping. My top picks for someone unfamiliar with them, is to check out their cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild"; or their tribute to fallen stars, as in "Sacred Life" as well as "Universal You" from their self-titled album. The Best of Rare Cult features the gems, "Lay Down Your Gun (Version 2)" and "Bleeding Heart Graffiti", in case you're interested.

Yes Indeed. Both the Cult and Glenn Danzig are very much a part of my hard rock pantheon of hero's. ELECTRIC is a classic, like Back in Black or Appetite for Destruction. It's a shame, in regards to Danzig, that the majority of press I see online for him is negative. People dumping on him. But the MISFITS reunion show is the only " punk rock" act to ever sell out Madison square garden. So, the press can hate Glenn all they want, the fans love him.

I have seen this band through the good times and the bad, so if you love them or hate them really doesn't matter, they payed their dues to be in rock history as one of the greatest bands of all time and they are every true rock band out there's favorite band, just ask any rock band what they think of the cult and they all say this is my jam!!! Sammy Hagar needs to do an interview with them, it would be awesome!!!

You have got it pretty well covered without going over old ground, going back to the early days in the UK..you need to pay some attention to the latest album. It is the best thing to be written by them, possibly...dare I say EVER, no fillers no overrated producers pulling strings. Every song is rooted firmly in the past and present, and is worthy of headphones and quality time. I haven't felt that need for a couple of decades. It is The Cult on form!

I was less than unimpressed with Sonic Temple and I think the last album I tried was Ceremony? From a super Cult die-hard from God's Zoo/Resurrection to vaguely 88 I loved them. Didn't really listen to any album between Temple and Ceremony more than a handful of times. Can you convince a dude who bled the Dreamtime-Love-Electric period to come back with a little more explicit reasoning? Sincerely, Jaded Ghost Dancer of Jaime Stewart, Preston, Brzezicki, and Warner

Good video. I always loved The Cult, even though they could really never maintain their early success. But they were so original and different and road and recorded some really great songs. By the way, in 2007 they had a great comeback single with "Dirty Little Rockstar." That song has always been so underrated. I love "She Sells Sanctuary," "Love Removal Machine," "Wild Flower," "Fire Woman," "Sun King," and "Sweet Soul Sister," But in my opinion the greatest song they ever did was the deep, dramatic, powerful, hauntingly beautiful "Edie (Ciao Baby)." That song is an absolute masterpiece, honestly one of the greatest songs of all-time, and I 100% agree with Ian Asbury on that it should have easily been a Top 10 hit.

'Whatever happened...?' Uh, they never left; they continue to be on tour, regularly; they release albums with novel experiments in psychedelic post-punk/post-gothic rock. Nothing 'happened' to the **band** ; it's just that some old fans have been distracted and aren't following their career any longer! Others, however, remain faithful; and the most fanatic fans believe that the best album is always the _next_ one - because you cannot predict what The Cult will come up with next!

Should've been wayyy bigger. Their first few albums were the perfect blend of the GnR scene and the new wave scene. As someone born in 91, I can't believe they weren't massive between 85 and 91. They had songs for everyone. Maybe that was the problem... scenes are so gatekeepy, so maybe half the ppl were saying "too new wave" and the other half were saying "too arena rock". Lil Devil, Rain, Sanctuary, Love Removal Machine, Sweet Soul Sister, Fire Woman... what a run of singles.

I was in my twenties listening to The Cult pushed my way through heavy industrial work surrounded by frozen Cow Hides, blooded Salt Brine, and when I was not building Salt Packed Hides I was operating Forklifts and Bobcat loaders. The Cult’s Ian Astbury voice and Duffy’s powering riffs and bends risen my adrenaline and pushing me through another eight hour day. The Cult was there in the eighties for people like me! Too bad they were having troubles, musically. Ian Astbury voice was powerful.

They did gothic & a MONUMENTAL album like "Love" as a result and soon after furious hard rock gems like "Electric", "Sonic Temple" and the MINDBLOWING and terribly ignored "Ceremony" which I saw them on that Tour and they were phenomenal as always.
