The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary | Reaction!

Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard this song. Since it's been requested and I've never thought about it much, I wanted to have a serious listen to it. Ian Astbury's soaring vocals overtop of the anthemic sound from the rest of the band is just pure bliss. Plus, the lyrics are positive and endearing.
Thanks for watching!

Being a teen at the time and heavily into the Alt. scene this song was HUGE, it was one of those tunes which packed the dancefloor at every Alt. music night at every nightclub, pretty much every club had an Alt. music night back in the 80's/90's which was usually midweek, they're a criminally underrated band.

Exactly. Love Removal Machine was even bigger in the clubs. Takes me back to the good old days.

In the late 70s, Billy Duffy was in a band with Morrissey: The Nosebleeds.

A song that you can’t help but love. I read that Ian did his own pirate outfit up himself, not many could pull that off!

The Cult did a bunch of 12"s for this one. I remember the psychedelic mix and the howling mix in particular 🐺🐺🐺

The opening riff was used as the theme song to an MTV heavy metal show back in the 80s...always makes me think of that when I hear it. Fire Woman by The Cult was my jam, but She Sells Sanctuary has always been a banger too. Ian Astbury's voice has that great Morrison/Elvis/Danzig thing going and the band was very talented and definitely not stuck in any one particular genre.

Astbury fronted the “Doors of the 21st Century” for Krieger, Manzarek and Densmore back in 2002.

Ah Yes!! The soundtrack of my teenage years!!! Soooo many great tracks from The Cult. It's also almost exactly 17 years since I saw an amazing Dutch band do an entire set of Cult covers at the Le Mans 24 hour race, at the Drinking For Holland campsite party. I still have the hangover 😵‍💫🤕 Anyway... great choice Nick! Love from the UK.

You are right... this song is an anthem. My old cover band opened many a show with this classic. Two more greats from The Cult are "Wildflower" and "Love Removal Machine" (which reminds me of AC/DC). The extended remixes of both of these songs are great. 👍

Billy Duffy (guitar) introduced Johnny Marr to Morrissey (I’ve always said) The Cult is like Led Zeppelin meets The Doors (Ian is from U.S. he moved to U.K.)

Astbury looks as if he wants to get friendly with the microphone here. In the video to their subsequent track 'Rain', we see what he really wanted to do all along!

Nick, a lost early 80’s song called “What about me” from a Australian band called Moving Pictures. Good love song from 82’ if your looking for another obscure song.
