Great vid! The worst part of these two colors is that vendors who supply the colorants for bait makers, sometimes make watermelon more brown and green pumpkin more green. In fact, I know of one company who makes Green Pumpkin in both brown and green (Lureworks GP 109 and Lureworks GP 156). Dead On's Green Pumpkin is more green and their Dark Melon is more brown. You can see the bait Randy held up, Green Pumpkin is brown and Watermelon is green. Someone was drinking shine when they decided on these two names. 🙂
I have experienced where gold flake made a huge difference. There is a color called Mardi Gras which is a green base but they would not bite other colors nearly as well. Something about that flash when the sun is shining. During Covid I could not find these anywhere and finally found some.
Great video, Randy.
Green pumpkin red is my go to fineness worm
I have both worms. In my lakes around south central Florida we have found the Zoom v-vibe 7 inch purple with red flakes sometimes called the "June Bug". It really works Randy. Tons of bass caught on it.
I didn't know you had 2 channels, so now I subscribed to both ! I use both green pumpkin/purple flake and the watermelon /black flake. However I've never used the trick worm but generic senko style to save a little money. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Much gratitude.
I've always had good luck with the purple flake
It's interesting that I see the same colors work for the same reasons for redfish down in Florida
Thanks Randy. My favorite worm and color too on a shaky head.
Thanks Randy Always Helpful! Also your tip on ruffing them up changed my whole catch ratio!!!!
I never knew this. I just guessed mostly which colour to use but this video really explains it. Thanks Randy!!
Love the explanation Randy! My go to is almost always GP but I definitely need to throw in some more watermelon for those sunny days.
Very helpful video, Randy. Answered some questions I had. Thank you.
Thank you for the info.
Spot on with the red or purple in watermelon trick worm. We had a lot of success with those flakes combined in watermelon.
Green pumpkin is one of my favorite color for most of my plastic baits. I might have to buy some watermelon colors. Thx for explaining the difference.
Great video & tips!!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Whatever became of regular pumpkin seed and is it still effective
As long as you have good enough light levels the watermelon red flake has been my go to color! 👍
a few years ago, a gary yamamoto senko green pumpkin purple flake was a KILLER on one of the lakes I fish...lasted for a couple years now you cant get bit on them much anymore but something about that grn pmkn/purp flk that really works.
I need to ask my local tackle dealer for baby poop dye, lol.
I have had several times I couldn’t get a bite and put a watermelon seed senko on and started catching bass.
0:39 I killed them last year during spawn on the watermelon candy... purple and green flake texas rigged craws. 🤙
The Zoom Trick worm, watermelon with chartreuse tail is a great bait!!!

Caught a million on em, not recently but over the years. Pumpkinseed chartreuse tail is another good color
Watermelon with the right flakes. I'm the best.
Is bubble gum color good in winter?
Now I want watermelon.😄
Baby poop green. I absolutely love it!
Bass have dichromatic vision. They have two cone cells in their eyes. Whereas humans have three. Bass can see red and blue and variants of those two, as well as black and white. Darker colors from a bass perspective appears as either shades of blue or black. Colors like yellow and chartreuse actually appear as shades of white to a bass.
In my book, there's only four colors, baitfish, crayfish, unnatural bright and black. All subtleties in each category are totally dependent on local conditions such as water clarity, season, species, light intensity, etc....
Consider this: you have perfect casting accuracy and you can time travel. You catch a big fish on a green pumpkin worm, go back in time, change to watermelon and cast to the same spot. What are the odds that the fish ignores or rejects the worm this time? I would say 0, zilch, nada. You caught the fish because you casted to a spot where a fish that wanted to eat was. It's that simple. Now, if you use a ridiculous color like pink or yellow then who knows, but, as those are not natural colors I suspect your odds are less than with watermelon.
Colors will change when they are in the water. The deeper the less range of color.
Zoom's "green pumpkin" always looked brown to me. No green at all.

Green Pumpkin is a brownish green while Watermelon is a pure green. Either can be either opaque or somewhat translucent.
Green Pumpkin/ Water Melon Laminated 😂😂 Problem Solved 😝😝
Randy I know this you tube channel doesn’t get watched as much as your other one but I really dislike the other site. You can come across very arrogant and salesman. Man this site is where you shine. I really learn about fishing through these videos. You do you man but I just wanted to share my thoughts and will continue to follow this channel. I’m not a tournament guy just a weekend Joe.
Randy won’t last fishing with a shaky head for 30 minutes on the water, only in the fantasy world. I use a broomstick on 30 lbs fluorocarbon to catch those big mama bass on beds with a watermelon green blumpkin shaky head and bank flip them right on to the bank. The best bed fishing technique out there.

And yet, has a fishing career that you will never match a day in your life. But keep going on going to stacked fishing 1 acre ponds where they bite anything.

Bed fishing is scummy. You do realize when you haul mama off her bed, the bluegill, perch, or whatever hungry fish are around, jump the nest and eat all the eggs, right?

@@westonjarvis4305 his career is for you to worry about not me. How about you go and have randy fish a 1 acre private farm pond to see how many fish he can catch to validate your claim. Its okay my friend, it’s just fishing.
Everybody fishes those colors I'll tell you what go on the internet and find motor oil worms you'll catch a ton of bass
I just don’t think color is that important

Then only bcar
I learned that both colors work at same time This was not informative
You guys make this stuff way too complicated. In my experience it doesn't matter which color I use or in what conditions, I've had the same results with either color. The colors are too similar to make that much of a difference! If I have to think about all of that extra crap then it isn't fun. I don't care about the light, and the time of day and the depth. My God who cares, just go fish and have fun.
