Braid with a flouro leader is an expensive fad that has hooked many people.

So, because you don't like it and you're against it, everyone else should follow suit? How about you do what works for you and let other's do what works for them, instead of telling everyone they're doing it wrong if they don't do it the way you do. Seems to be a trend in your videos

I spool half of my spinning reel with cheap monofilament and fill the rest up with braid to save money. I’m going to disagree with you on this one. The disadvantage of not having the stretch can be compensated on the fly by loosening your drag for that matter, jigging for walleye you just use a swivel and re-tie the flourocarbon when needed

I know this is gonna fire up some people but 3 years ago I went back to mono and dumped floro. I fish gin clear lakes and have had no drop in bites. Spinning reel gets trilene XL and Big Game on baitcasters. Braid for limited applications ie: frogs, big topwater. No leaders, no extra knots. Most important fish your confidence.

I have to agree with you sir. It's hard to fish the beaches during the day on cave Run lake where I live in KY during the summer but I've caught many in the off months and early in the morning and late in the evening.

Trilene Big Game Monofilament works for me on spinning and baitcasting. It's a tough line that is affordable . Sensitivity has not been a issue either.

My all time favorite topwater lure! I have been throwing a Gold 13F for about 50 years. I usually replace the rear hook with an Owner feathered teaser hook. It also catches fish just trolling it slowly behind the boat (with an occasional twitch) when you leisurely move from spot to spot. They also make an 18F that you can throw with a bait-casting setup.

I still use the slightly smaller than that one w two hooks in several colors in pressured waters'- they run silent too. I have boxes of these from the 1&1/2 inch sinkers& x raps up to tge bigger magnums. theres a rapala for every type of fish; but that original floater gets smashed by bass to this day for sure.

❤ Use at night from shore in the shallows, slowly. Rapala has the best thump sound .They'll come up and hit it, even at high-pressure park lakes.

I fish the fingerlakes and run sx1 braid bc it fades to a natural color to a 25ft leader. I do this bc i feel like i need the casting distance and feel like 25ft is still enough to get the advantages of floro. Please don't take this as a debate im genuinely curious to your thoughts on my setup

If mono, copoly or fluoro somehow didn’t get line twist and loops on a spinning real, I’d be using those straight. I think most would in that case.

For freshwater fishing, for bass, there's no reason whatsoever to use FG. Both Alberto and Albright can be tied in under a minute and are excellent low profile knots. Another thing you neglect to mention is leaders allow you to use hi-vis line and reduce the use of main line to almost zero, meaning you don't need to respool nearly as often.

  • @user-oo7uv8xt2b

I agree with a lot of what you were saying Randy. I do, however, enjoy the extra sensitivity that I get from using braid to fluorocarbon and I truly believe it helps me identify slack line bites, especially with wacky rigs. There is a guy that has a video about the five second braid to flours knot. He’s called Bayou bandit. I used to struggle with tying the FG knot as well as the Yucatán and Alberto. This knot is so simple and effective that I will never tie anything else! It doesn’t take five seconds but no more than 20 to 30 seconds and you can do it even if it’s windy. What you said about people getting lazy and not paying attention to their leader length as it gets shorter is dead on.

It's a topwater, it's a jerkbait, it's a crankbait, it's a fish catcher. It still works because there aren't a lot of people throwing it these days. My first lure when I was a kid, the gold one. Caught a 5 pounder on it in Pennsylvania when I was about 7 years old.

Black/gold #11. Won a state championship years ago on a northeastern river system. Dead calm, overcast, shallow water, bridge abutments cast it out and dead stick it for as long as you can possibly stand it and then wait some more, then bingo! Great juice Randy

Randy, I have several large and small ones. Some I modified by using a lighter and bending the bill back. This makes the bait "walk" across the surface of the water.
