As kids out here in Ontario, we used to glue curly tail Mr Twisters on our walleye bucktail jigs and swim them for Bass. I had a dedicated Mitchell Spidercast baitcasting rod for the technique paired with that oldschool Shimano Bantam 250SG Mag reel. Man those were the days out on Simcoe and Couchi.

Swim jigs, 1 of my favorite techniques....being a lure junkie, swim jigs can be brutal...Too many sweet colors on the market! I can't buy enough... had success around lily pads with bluegill colors last season....The good news is, they'll never be out of stock again...All the FFS scopers only stock up on crappie baits now 😂

I’m gonna tell you what I do to save time and money. I reel up about 100yards of braid then use 30 40 yards floro so that I still mainly have floro but it’s more cost effective and easier to change out. It works for me.

between you and colton posey i really have learned a lot about the different jig types and why the heads are designed for each purpose cuz i had no idea each type had specific uses i would use them all for whatever i felt like

This is exactly the way I figured it out in the 90's fishing docks. Made a "Cast I did not like beside a dock and started reeling it in real fast to make another Cast...However reeling it in I saw a bass behind the jig and followed and ate it. I was like no way, so I did it at the next couple of docks swimming and hopping beside the floats of the docks and Bang I caught another...After that I worked on my technique and I can catch fish swimming a jig pretty much any where I go...Excellent Seminar Randy...And it does work on the edge of grass paralleling it

Down here in TX the shad love reeds during the shad spawn. Sometimes the water will be boiling inside and along the edge of the reeds. And a swim jig will work great.

Man... that's a huge profile on that with the trailer!... I always used a finesse jig and smaller trailer on Table Rock with good success... good stuff Randy.

Yet another awesome video. I’ve always shied away from jigs since I rarely caught anything on them (except for logs and other snags). I’m gonna give them another go with this info. Thanks Randy!

I had one good day on a small lake about three years ago. Hardest hits I’ve ever had not on a top water. I didn’t have anything for a trailer, so I bit the head off of a toad for a nice strong “thump.” Haven’t had much success since, so I’ll try your trailer suggest. Oh-most of my hits were in 3-10 ft of water. It was an ultra clear lake in May, with no perch but bluegill and crappies.

I got some green pumpkin swimjigs on sale this winter. I grabbed up some green pumpkin rage menace grubs to rig vertical to imitate a bluegill. I think it will look pretty sweet and its pretty much shaped like that zoom bait just shorter.

Good tips Randy! Do you think rattles are a help on swim and/or other jig types? Thanks!

PW told a friend of mine about the z craw. I use it on a lot of things as a trailer. I turn it sideways and make it a little shorter it makes the jig look like a fish. When it is sideways it really looks like a fish tail and doesn’t effect the jig

I’ve never figured out how a swim jig sometimes works better than a spinner bait. But it does. Weird

I learned it the same way by mistake, I just told my story on Bassresource a few hours ago. Totally weird we would talk about the same thing today. Appreciate your refining tips though, I used pork back in the 80 & 90’s but plastic is way more convenient.

Is there any reason to fish a swim jig over a chatter bait in dirty water?
